Re: OMS 2.1

A search at the Apple Knowledge Base and on Google leads to the following answer: OMS stands for Open Music System, which is some type of MIDI software published by a company called Opcode. The good news is that OMS 2.1 is free (apparently) and available from Opcode's web site (www.opcode.com); the bad news (at least as of 4-11-2002) is that I cannot get the Opcode web site to load.

I have the same problem on Powerbook G4 (w/ latest OS 9.2 installed)--it always fails with this message (requires OMS 2.1 or later), while "initializing MIDI", after initializing DAE. Is OMS 2.1 a digidesign thing, or a Mac thing? Excuse my ignorance! Help!

Click track?

Is there an easy way to set up a click track without using MIDI. I only have the midi quicktime player from the Mac OS 9 software and not an external midi device.

I've made a simple click track by recording a little noise, like a pick raking across guitar strings or a hand clap, and then just duplicating that noise over and over again. Cut/add empty space to shorten/lengthen the meter. It ain't pretty but it works.

fragmented disk?

Pro Tools tells me it cannot allocate disk space, and that my disk may be fragmented. I don't think my disk is fragmented, so what's the problem?

Re: fragmented disk?

go into whatever pull down menu has a choice to limit max amount of recording time to something specific, depending on your hard drive space and typical song length. when you leave the setting at the default, it's looking to use your entire hard drive for the track being recorded.

well, that's how it works on my rev a imac 233 5 gig

Re: fragmented disk?

Yes, your'e right. In my ProTools I just went to the Setups menu, then chose Preferences, then Operation and at the bottom it says "Open Ended Record Allocation". You have the choice to "Use All Available Space" or "Limit to ___ minutes" I set mine at 20 minutes which is more than enough.

Re: drum tracks on pro tools free

If you can get away with doing midi, I recomend you get Anvil Studio. It's free and really user friendly. I'm not sure what the link is, google it.

CAn't register at pro tools

It'd be great if I could actually get pro tools free, but the stupid site won't even let me register.
I've been trying for 3 days now and it keeps saying
Sorry, we were unable to create your profile for the following reason(s):
then it doesn't give a stupid reason.
Is there anywhere else to get it???

ProTools Free and VST FXs???

Is there any way to get VSST effects to play in Pro Tools Free? I found a program called "VSTi Host version 3.0" that can do it, but I'm looking for a cheaper way to do it. Any ideas?

Re: ProTools Free and VST FXs???

i too ran across this solution. i contacted one of the writers of "VSTi Host 3.0" and he was nice enough to tell me that there is a freeware VST host for protools (RTAS) somewhere out there. he couldnt recall the name right off, and im still searching for it. im thinking of emailing him again to see if he can track it down. let me know if you have any luck as well.

Thanks if you could help me

Whynot

Protools Free? I love it!!

What the hell is everyone's problem?
Okay, this version isn't the easiest to learn on, but it works! the audio recording at 24 bits 44.1 kHz is great, the editing options are great, and the playback is F***ing great. You got problems with out-of-sync audio? Get more ram!
Not that I'm bragging, but I'm running the 500mHz imac, 19.1 gig hardrive, 256 megs ram, and no virtual ram.
