Software Description
Quartz AudioMaster Freeware is a powerful though easy-to-use multitrack recorder and MIDI sequencer running under Windows 95/98/NT/2000 and the best way to try the Quartz Audio Family software concept for FREE (fully working - no limitation at all - it's not a trial version).
It is intended for people who want to record, compose, mix, play and share music using a computer and a sound card.
It features 4 stereo audio tracks, 16 MIDI tracks, effect plug-ins, per-track EQ, Aux buses, Video sync, Score, GM/GS/XG and "Piano roll" editors and all the functionalities required to easily share musical projects across the internet up to its multitrack compressed file format.

How can we mix different tracks with different volume?
We are using the Quartz studio and it's great but we have some problems. Have all the tracks to be in Audio01 so that you can record them and mix them? Can we make lower or louder the volume of a determined audio track? For example, if the volume of the guitar is loud in a track we are using, can we make it lower? I think every track can be treated as you want (volume, tone...) and then mix then together. But we just we don't know how.

I downloaded quartz studio free.After 5seconds recording,the record inidcator goes off and cuts off my sound.what ails this thing?I am running xp home edition.
Right Locator
Middle of the right side of the screen you'll see a readout that says 00-00-05-00 (the lower left of four readouts). Click on it, go to "Change Right Locator" and make it something like 10 minutes instead of five seconds. You can always trim it later.

Move the end locator to the end of the song
Recording only occurs between start and end locators.
by default locators are only 5 seconds apart
Audio Recording Levels
The software it's great but the only trouble I've seen it's about the Audio rec.level. I'd rec an acoustic guitar ( electrified by a Fishman )with good response. But got problem with a microphone recording on the vocal line on the others audio tracks.The signal it's very poor,low.I've switched the level at maximum, passing thru'a multieffect to gain some volume, but nothing seems enough to increase the bloody mic level.I'm very very sorry of this because all the rest works great.Bye
help: Copy and Paste
I just started using quartz audiomaster. Everything seems to be fairly straigt forward, except for one thing that I just cant figure out.. I absolutley cannot get it to copy and paste an audio event. This is very simple to do using cakewalk and other software. I just cant seem to get it to work with this.. Any tips?

I just downloaded the software today (quite pleased with it) - and while most of the interface is extremely intuitive, it took me a few minutes to figure this out as well.
So - for others in the same boat who google this question, here's what you do:
First, position the left and right indicators in the "Tracks" window: these are the vertical dashed lines - the left indicator has a blue handle, the right has a red handle. You can drag them with the mouse, or click the left and right mouse buttons in the horizontal bar that contains the handles to position them. Wrap the area you want to position with the indicators.
(Hint: set your grid SNAP in the upper left hand corner of the Tracks window to make this easy).
Second, use the mouse to select the elements you want to copy.
Third, hit CTRL-C. You will see a "Copy" dialog box that you can use to set conditions (this is pretty neat). If you're just doing a straight copy, don't set anything. Just click the "copy" button.
Finally, set the left indicator to starting point of where you want to paste the selected element, and hit CTRL-V. You'll be prompted about the paste.
...I may have missed something (I just started working with this), but that's basically it. Anything I missed should be easy enough to figure out with these basics.

oh - and you do need to select the tracks you want to copy from the copy dialog box, so you do have to specify something there.

Good Program!
This software is quite powerful for a freebie. You just have to recognize the limitations of your computer equipment. For instance, you can expect a lock-up if you are running other programs such as VirusScan or something. Make sure to check the help files. They have more valuable info than you think.

Assigning Audio In Ports
My soundcard (Yamaha DS-XG) has two stereo audio input sockets (line and mic) and I would like to use both of them so that I can record four audio tracks simultaneously.
However, when I go into "options" "audio devices" there is only a letter A appearing in the "audio in ports" list. This seems to correspond to the line input, as I can record fine through this. The help topic implies that there should be several letters appearing here, which can be assigned to different input devices.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is a restriction on the Freeware version, but there's nothing that says so.
What do I need to do? Also, I may at some point need to record directly from my built-in CD player, and I' not sure how to route this into Audio Master either.
My PC system is a Pentium II 266Mhz with 128Mb RAM, and the software seems to be running fine.

This is of course possible! Plug your guitar (thru the pre-amp and NOT the power amp) to the LINE-IN at the back of your computer. Now right click the speaker icon on the taskbar (lower right corner) and remove the check mark from "Mute" below the Line-In section. Now play your guitar, you should hear it thru your comp speakers. Adjust the volume to get the loudest sound without clipping. Now click "Options>Properties>Recording" and click OK. Now select the check box below Line-In. Fire up quartz, start a new sequence, click both L and R buttons near "Audio 01" track, click the Record button and JAM!!! Click stop when you're done, then rewind and play. you can also record 3 more tracks this way! enjoy!! and dont forget to download the Getting Started manual from the DSP website.

I'm using windows XP (P3 866mhz, 128mb) with Quartz Audio Master free. It works pretty damn great! Maybe you have a midi softsynth installed which screws up quartz coz both try to use the audio out device at once. maybe something else, but definitely not a general issue with quartz audio master - it's one of the most stable sequencers around.

MIDI Problem
I have a portable beyboard (YAMAHA PSR 270). How to connect it as a MIDI system to my PC. Do I need other card than the sound card. If not, how should I configure my PC in order to recognize the PSR as a MIDI. Thanks.

Just buy a special cable for MIDI, unexpensive.. it connects to the Game Port of your Sound Card, no extra Hardware needed..

Tracks out of sync
Why are audio tracks ending up out of sync with midi tracks? I have Pent3,64ram Sound Blaster AudioPCI64V sound card.Recording quality is great,this is the product I've been looking for!! Please fix my problem.

For the starving musician this is it. This is so much better than those disabled "demos" (can't save?!), or shelling out $$$ for a program that isn't what you thought it was. If you're just learning to multitrack.......Christmas came early. The notation feature is especially useful. Thank you!

it sounds choppy???
when i export just 4 audio tracks to a mp3 format it sounds choppy and chuggy, what i mean is it is like when u listen to a radio in a bad receptive area
i have a 850mhz athlon
128meg ram
any help???

Make sure all "background" programs (active desktop, virus check, browser, etc. are all closed. You may also want to close programs located in the lower right hand corner by your clock on the desktop. Every drop of extra PC power helps.

not a user.
Administrator places no restrictions on the installation.
