Reason is now a full featured virtual studio rack with all the tools and instruments you need to turn your ideas into music. You get a wide variety of sounds from its sound bank and your creativity will not be distracted with its intuitive flow. Reason helps you along in the creative process and is the music software that never gets in your way.

Making music should be as easy as powering up a computer, loading up a powerful piece of music software, and getting down to business. And it is. Reason version 5 is a virtual studio rack with all the tools and instruments you need to turn your ideas into music. And it's more than just a set of excellent synths and effects. It's a complete music system. Step into the age of Reason.

All-in-one wonder
Synthesizers, samplers, drum machine, REX file loop player, professional mastering tools, mixer, vocoder, world class effects, pattern sequencer and more. As many of each as your computer can handle. Reason is an infinitely expandable all-in-one music production environment, complete with its own realtime sequencer.

Although easy to learn and a breeze to use, Reason is an extremely flexible music system - a system that can be just as complex and advanced as you make it. With sophisticated tools such as the MClass mastering suite, the mighty Combinator device, or the all-powerful Thor synth, Reason will not just impress, but inspire you.

Need more gear?
No problem. Choose a synth, a drum machine, a loop player or any device from the Create menu, and it will instantly appear in your rack, logically patched into the signal chain. And because Reason is designed to go easy on your computer, you can repeat the process until you're more than happy. If you ever wished you had eleven samplers and ten compressors, Reason is definitely for you. And if you have created more machines than you have mixer channels, just create another mixer. The studio of your dreams is just a few mouse clicks away.

Control your controls
Each unit in Reason's virtual rack is edited from its own on-screen front panel. All the sliders, knobs, buttons and functions are right in front of you, ready to be tweaked, turned and twisted in absolute real-time. And all your front panel actions - filter adjustments, pitch bending, gain riding or panning - can be recorded and automated in the Reason sequencer.

Radical routing
A single keypress will turn Reason's rack around, and there you are, in patch cord heaven. Most audio connections are made automatically. When a new device is created, it appears immediately below the currently selected device, and Reason patches it into the system in the most logical way. Repatch by dragging the patch cord plug to the desired connector, or just make a pop-up menu choice. Most devices have one or more parameters controlled by Gate and/or CV. And all instrument devices have several Gate or CV output options. Combine this with easy, transparent patching, and you have connection power approaching that of a fully modular synth.

Re: What can this software do?

: Here's my questions, because I'm interested in this software. Does it come with "factory" patches? If so, how many? Can I add as many samples as I would like to create my own sound library? If I sample something, like say a french horn, can Reason change the notes and the pitch based on one sound sample? Will I need to get a MIDI keyboard to do this? Finally, is this program worth the $400? Is there anything out there that would be comparable, but for a cheaper price? Thanks! Please respond by e-mail.

For anybody out there that wants a cheaper alternative, I reccommend checking into orion and fruityloops, or if you like the interface, buzz. I also reccommend checking into the Jeskola XS-1 ($50) sampler, which beats the sampler in Reason hands down (much higher sound quality), although Fruity's and Orion's sample rendering are better than Reason's anyway. No you wouldn't need a MIDI keyboard.

so can i take it that its better than fruityloops??

now that fruity uses vst2 as well?

Re: so can i take it that its better than fruityloops??

fruityloops is a wonnabees fuk program nothing in the world can be reason look at it in a way as grapics hardware components the doggs

Orion is much better

If you want to save some money, check out Orion on http://www.sonic-syndicate.com. Sounds much better and is a lot lot cheaper ($50). Reason is ok, but way to expensive.

Hook up the beats as we walk the streets...

fruity loops is best for american gangster rap. You europeans jsut copy our sheeet!

Re: Orion is much better

Reason is the Bomb!!!!

Re: Orion is much better

Did those of you who actually said Reason was worse ever buy the full version? Seriously, the number of sounds and clips that come with reason is incredible...

way better than that orion peice o junk anyway

Re: Orion is much better

Yeah, I know, I bought ACID, and it has a lot of samples too. I like samples. The only problem is that this should be icing on the cake. If you like creating your music with samples... great for you! Reason is supposed to be a soft synth, so if the samples are the only reason you are buying reason, try checking another program.

Re: Orion is much better

I agree in alot of ways. Orion is far more
user friendly and it paks a bigger punch
as far as your hard earned dollars are concerened.
Sure, Reason sounds more pro and i love it, but
Steinberg have left some ugly bugs in the
software. This is unforgivable at its current
RRP. Another thing going for Orion is the fact
that it is compatible with alot of VST 2 instruments, therefore not being constrained by
its default architecture. I think its a better
choice to buy Orion and spend the rest on a
couple of compatible VST 2 synths, Heck you can
even find a few free at this site. :o| :o) :oP

Re: Orion is much better

I agree with you Michiel, Orion is better, needs far less computer power, easier, and cheaper.
Reason is great too. its GUI is very nice, but i think Orion is more stable and is as capable as
Reason.
Not much reason to reason.
But as the previous reply about pricing, yes i understand that. No dissing Propellerheads here though
its a beautiful peice of software.
But they both on par of eachother, though pricing and computer power mean more to me

im running an amdk2-2 450..not enough for reason

Re: Orion is much better

i've never seen a bigger collection of fucking morons in my life. Michiel, I recognise you from the Orion list -- you are a moron.
Reason, as everyone knows is so much more cpu friendly and has LESS bugs than Orion. I own both. ask anyone who owns both and they reply the same way. stop spouting shit and fucking get your facts straight.

oh yeah, FUCK OFF PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how can you compare reason with orion?
obviously those that only have orion

reason and orion has nothing to do with each other.

orion is a vst-piano roll host with some internals.

reason is a professional rack.

i do own orion, frutty loops but just reason demo

but im not trying to argue that the ones i own are better than reason.

compare frutty vs orion not orion vs reason.

Re: Orion is much better - Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

You obviously were not making music in the days of $300 a day eight track studios, Fairlight, PPG etc. $399 would have been barely enough funds to buy a batch of 2" tape. Reason is a piece of genius (as is Orion - on a smaller scale).

just cause homeboy isn't as old as you and doesn't remember wating daddy's money on 8 tracks of pure crap doesn't mean you should bag on him. whenever i recorded back in the day it was 24 track and someone else's dime...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm .... jackass

Re: reason way cooler

The Age of Reason

The most influential piece of Music Software since music was invented. There is nothing cureently in the market that comes anywhere near to this product. Quite astounding.

How about Buzz? It has 32-bit rendering (with overloader extention), modular design, 300+ machines including some that waste the ones in reason, access to ALL parameters via pattern access, MIDI knob and keyboard setup, VST2 support, a good support community, and one of the best development communities around, with new machines being released nearly every week. Oh, yeah, I guess its not on the market... its freeware. Sure Reason has looks, but is it really that far ahead of everything else?

What about jizz?? it has all the perks of a drum machine without all that "beat" nonsense. Jizz. Plain and simple. J-I-Z-Z. Remember the name.

COBBLERS!!!!!!!!! ORION PRO IS EASILY AS GOOD - WHATEVER ITS DETRACTORS MIGHT SAY. REASON IS A PIG TO USE, AND THE MATRIX PATTERN SEQUENCER IS, FRANKLY PATHETIC. REASONS GOT NO ARPEGGIATOR, WON'T SUPPORT VSTi'S, AND COSTS TOO MUCH.

HAVING SAID THAT THE SOUND BANK IS SUPERB, AND THE SUBTRACTOR SYNTH SUBLIME. BUT ORION IS STILL BETTER.

Re: The Age of Reason - it gets better!

Reason 2 is now available, still untouchable!

Send me an e mail for an unbeatable price (if you know what I mean!) ;)

The Reason

Sounds great, can the DSP do complex slicing effects? Its a good sonic arpeg simulaiton and not manmy products have it.
