way to convince real jukebox that the plugin should work? Guess I have to use the rioport software...

The interesting thing is that I've e-mailed their customer support twice and both times it took about a week for them to respond and they tell me that I'll need the latest version of Rioport Manager (3.3 I presume) and the latest driver (which says it's for 98/ME/2000). When I try to install the driver, I get the MS warning that this device driver has not passed MS tests and may not be compatible and may destroy my machine or similar words. Anybody try to install regardless? Why is there no mention of XP's existence just about anywhere on the Diamond or Rioport pages? A campaign is definitely a must.

Yup, what a waste of 270 bucks eh? Can't even use the thing now without the software. Can't these people keep up? How hard is it to write software that will work with XP.

What a waste of money. I'll never buy anything from Rio again.

1.Just download the drivers from rioport.com for the RIO 500 (http://www3.rioport.com/Software/3/ir500v12.exe}

and the rioport audio manager.

AS FAR AS I KNOW, YOU CAN'T USE THE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER TO ADD AND REMOVE TRACKS FROM THE RIO500.

2. Do not connect the Rio yet.

(If you already have, go into the Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager button, then delete the RioPort with the yellow question mark by it.)

3. Install the drivers. IGNORE ALL OF THE WARNINGS. These warnings just mean that they have not been certified by Microsoft. They work fine on my Dell laptop, my work IBM laptop and my wife's clone PIII 800, all running XP. (XP pro on the laptops and XP home on the PC.) But, of course you are on your own.)

4. Plug the Rio 500 in and it will be detected.

5. Once again, you must use the RioPort Audio Manager to add and remove tracks, the Windows Media Player is not compatible with the Rio500.

Just forget it .... the Rioport 500 is not compatible with WindowsXP. I don't even get it detected by windows!

But another mp3 player!

My Problem was that I finally upgraded to XP and then found that the software didn't work with it. And to be able to download the new software you have to use the reg no on the back of the player... alright if it hasn't rubbed off after all the wear and tear! So now I'm stuck up a gum tree...

ok. its not that hard. i had the same problem. all i did was go onto the cd, find the setup program and tell it to run in compatibility mode for windows 98. it gave me an error, but it works fine. try it.

install the latest rioport ausio manager 3.5 and everything is ok, or get the latest driver for real player /real jukebox.

I too am unable to find any help or solution to the xp/rio 500 problem. I tried the new Rio Audio Manager with every compatibility setting in XP--no luck. Does upgrading the firmware make any difference? I haven't tried that yet. Rio should fix this the 500 isn't that old.

SURE! I've just installed the RIO downloader on my new computer (WinMe) and it works pretty well. You just have to download a freeware software to convert (any format files to MP3)and then download (with a freeware downloader to :).
