Software Description

Sketch Synth 3D will allow you to sketch your songs in 3D with your Mac.

Sketch Synth 3D allows you to make whole songs and soundscapes out of small 3D sketches, where other synths offer just 2D sound generation, sketch synth is about giving you the ability to convey movement and shape in 3D. You can use sketch synth with a mouse / touchpad, or even use it’s preconfigured OSC input to control it with a Kinect (using OSCeleton or OSCKinnection) .

Sketch Synth 3D can be used standalone straight out of box with it’s internal sound engine: which as of version 1.0.1 you will even be able to load your own samples into. When stepping up from 2D to 3D control of sounds, you will get the ability to control the pitch and volume of a sound along with controlling the tone timbre in order to produce lushous flowing soundscapes.

Once you’ve looked at the initial functionality of Sketch Synth 3D, you can keep scratching the surface for more opportunities to customize the way it behaves, it’s OSC inputs are preconfigured to allow you to automate other instances of Sketch Synth 3D, or even interface a Kinect. With one hand the user can draw sounds, with the other hand the user can make gestures to swipe through different parts of the song and choose which sounds to change.

Each controller provides different characteristics and feel to the way you create your sounds, the Kinect really immerses you in the movement and gradual flow of your sounds; whereas the mouse gives you a much sharper and firmer experience, more like drawing the sound. Whatever method you choose, you can have fun straight out of the box; but also know that when you’ve gotten over the initial buzz, there are all sorts of different features that you can sink your teeth into.
