Been Looking For This

I probably no longer need Soundforum Synthesizer, but it's good to find it again after all these years. Oh the memories. I'd forgotten the name so I was looking and looking for some clue. Finally used the Wayback Machine and my memory was refreshed. Knew it was made by Native Instruments, what with the look and feel of the interface. It's so good to be able to download it again!

hey

I can't download SoundForum synthesizer. Link broken.

How to record a SoftSynth like SoundForum

I noticed this question down below and it's one that often comes
up with SoftSynths which aren't a plug-in or VST instrument.

You can easily record the output of the softsynth by downloading
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Virtual_AudioCable_2/">Virtual Audio Cable</a> which will let you connect the signal coming
out of your softsynth into the input of your audio recording software
such as <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/rd/MS_syntrillium/rd.pl/?http://www.syntrillium.com/en/index.html?x=3&go=6^^MS_syntrillium">Cool Edit 2000</a>

Hope this helps,
Jason.

Fantastic Synth !! Anyone wanna share voices ?

I just want to say that This is the best and most stable softsynth I have ever used. It's sound is incredible and I've made some really crazy sounds with it. Is there anywhere that I can find other voices for this thing ? I would love to hear and or use sounds other people were able to accomplish with this thing too. I ,being an amature with almost no knowledge of creating sounds with this thing, would love to see various ways to set up different sounds. Also Does anyone know if this synth can only play one sound at a time or can I put together multi's with it ? There is no documentation that tells me this. I have figured out how to sequence it however. Been using it for basslines.. Incredible !

Hey Ray

Hey Ray, I haven't downloaded this synth yet, but maybe it works if you:
1 download something like CoolEdit
2 start SoundForum Synth and CoolEdit at the same time
3 Let cooledit record
4 play a note in soundforum (if it's possible to play notes on your computer-keyboard)
5 Cool Edit records the played note!

(This does also work with some other softsynths.)

very thick

im probably being extremely thick, but how the hell do i get some sounds to come out of this synth. Do i have to have a keyboard? if so, are there any free software synths that dont need a keyboard?

Re: very thick

Ok... here's the deal:

Get yourself a sequencer, or other software capable of driving a synth (such as Jammer Pro, which I use), then download a copy of Hubi's MIDI Playback Device, set the output of your software (Jammer, etc.) to LP1, LP2, etc. (these are created by Hubi's) and set the input of the Soundforum synth to the same (LP1, LP2, etc.) Start playing your software, then concentrate and start moving Soundforum's knobs. I've had it for 3 weeks now, and I'm having a heck of a lot of fun. Composed my first piece using this synth...

Fantastic Softsynth this is...

Re: very thick

At first i couldn't get sound either. Then, the second time I opened the program, I tried hitting keys on the keyboard. Sure enough sound came out. I don't know exactly how i got it to produce sound in response to the keyboard (the typing keyboard), but it is possible so don't give up.

Re: very thick

No, you're not thick, you're just not a musician, or you would know that you need a MIDI keyboard to get the full worth out of this software. Unless you are a musician into vintage sounds, I recommend that you leave this one alone.

Re: very thick

man... as I am not a musician, this post really scared me off when I was looking around for a way to add sound to my online art project. But I had already downloaded it and everything else I found was WAY over my head and so I kept coming back to fooling around with this one.

something about the interface just invites you to try everything and see what it does.... after a lot of time and wacky sound I began to get a grip on it.

OK, so a month later and a project nearing completion with great SFX from this synth and I have to say don't listen to this guy.... this thing is a hell of a lot of fun and very useful for project work even if you're not A SERIOUS MUSICIAN WHO IS IN TO VINTAGE INSTRUMENTS... sheesh.

Re: very thick

A year ago, when I posted that message, it was during a time when I mistakenly thought that the music industry was still holding out for SERIOUS MUSICIANS who create SERIOUS MUSIC. It has become obvious to me since then that the industry is now accepting any old bullshit and calling it music simply for the sake of making a buck off of simple-minded people who know nothing about REAL MUSIC. So have your fun. I still think it's a cop-out.

The best entry-level soft-synth so far

Without any doubt the best (= users frendly)
software synth so far. Even without any knowledge
or experience with osc, lfo's, filters etc. you
are able to generate some mind-blowing sounds
(fat analog basses for instance) within an hour or
so strongly recommended by me (prof. audio-engin.)
AND ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY FREE NO REGISTRATION IS
EVEN POSSIBLE (thanks to NATIVE INSTRUMENTS)

Recording Sounds...The Easy Way!

Hey DJ Ray, If a program doesn't allow you to record your sounds to your hard drive. Try this very simple trick to bypass those demos:

1. Unplug your PC-Speakers and plug a line-in cord from your Speaker input to a line-in on a 4-track or tape machine.
2. Record the sounds to your 4-track or tape machine.
3. Use Sound Forge or Cakewalk to record your 4-track samples to .wav files.

There you go! I do it all the time and never blink an eye. (Maybe that's the Ecstacy kickin' in)

Peace out Musical Brothers and Sisters!

Re: Recording Sounds...The Easy Way!

thanks mate!i appreciate the advice!but there are two minor problems:i don't HAVE a four track and it' s bloody annoying to record something that way!wouldn't life be a lot easier if this synth just WORKED?well, since you seem to know a bit, lemme ask you a question:could you help me with the H20 plug in compressor?this is a wicked FREE compressor from smart electronix!download it NOW,if you haven't already!now THAT'S something that makes you wanna whistle!play with it and then tell me how i can use it to create the club sound in my records!cheers!

You can easily solve the problem with software like
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Virtual_AudioCable_2/">Virtual Audio Cable</a> which will allow you to record
the output of SoundForum.

Jason.

Re: HUH?

:
I reccord the output of this synth just fine directly to my hard drive. It is rather easily done actually. Just a single sound configuration box to check. This is hands down the most stable and easiest to use softsynth I've ever used.
