Software Description

Tenor provides chord lookup for Tenor Banjo and Tenor Guitar in CGDA and GDAE tuning. There are 17 chord types in the library, each of which are supported with 3 or 4 different fingerings each, depending upon the chord. To plot a chord diagram, select the root of the chord from the Root menu, and the type of the chord from the Type menu. Then, diagram it with the Form 0,1,2,3 buttons from the tool bar. Form 0 chords are available for Major, Minor, and Dominant 7th chord forms and are generally the open or common forms of the chord. Form 1 chords generally have the root on the 4th string. Form 2 chords generally have the root on the 3th string, and Form 3 chords generally have the root on the 2nd string.

The Neck Window view provides additional chord lookup functions. This window allows the browsing of chord fingerings over the neck and has a Name-that-Chord function which recognizes 40 different chords in standard and non-standard tunings. These user-created chord voicings may then be diagramed in the chord editor window.

tuning a tenor

Can someone tell me how to tune my tenor to GDAE rather than CGDA. When I do it, it does not sound in tune. What string and what fret on a 6 string would be comparable to the G string? Thanks Steve.

Steve the reason it might not sound in tune of be in tune is the string guage. gdae is a lower pitched tuning than cgda. the tuning is an octave lower than mandolin tuning and the g note should correspond to the open g string on a guitar. light string guages when tuned low will not intonate correctly and this is probably why you are having tuning problems. go to www.tenorbanjo.com for advice on string guage. i thing that you can find what you need at the faq section. do you play tenor banjo or guitar?

Re: tenor guitars

I just stumbled on this site and am hoping that maybe you still check it. I own 3 tenor guitars, a Harmony and 2 Martins, but what may interest you the most is that one of the Martins was purchased about 3 years ago from Martin via a Music Store in Manchester, NH. It took close to a year to get, as it was made to order (as was the first Martin I purchased back in the 60s. I would imagine that Martin would still make them to order if you go through a distributor.

In addition to that option, there is also a luthier in Portland, Maine who makes tenors in several models. His name is Joel Eckhaus.

The new Martin ran about 3k...Joel has some models less and some more. Type in key words tenor guitars in your search engine and you'll find him. Phone number is 207-7799-9788. Hope this helps.

Using Tenor!

I have been using Tenor! for over a year. I find it easy to use, well thought out, and it works well for me! I recommend it highly.
