Re: tuning a tenor

Re: tuning a tenor

: Can someone tell me how to tune my tenor to GDAE rather than CGDA. When I do it, it does not sound in tune. What string and what fret on a 6 string would be comparable to the G string? Thanks Steve.

Steve the reason it might not sound in tune of be in tune is the string guage. gdae is a lower pitched tuning than cgda. the tuning is an octave lower than mandolin tuning and the g note should correspond to the open g string on a guitar. light string guages when tuned low will not intonate correctly and this is probably why you are having tuning problems. go to www.tenorbanjo.com for advice on string guage. i thing that you can find what you need at the faq section. do you play tenor banjo or guitar?
