Software Description
TiMidity is a MIDI to WAVE converter and player that uses Gravis Ultrasound(*)-compatible patch files to generate digital audio data from General MIDI files. The audio data can be played through any sound device or stored on disk. On a fast machine, music can be played in real time. TiMidity runs under Linux, FreeBSD, HP-UX, SunOS, and Win32, and porting to other systems with gcc should be easy. TiMidity++ is not only a converter but also the real-time player that can play a MIDI file in real time. TiMidity does not require an external MIDI instrument module to play MIDI file; performs with software power.

These guys work hard! just because YOU can't figure it out doesnt mean it doesnt work. your a real piece of s**t to belittle people that give you free software and wont nothing in return. I guess you think everyone would be better off with out this software because YOU can't figure it out. your problem is your too **** ing lazy to look on google and set the thing up properly, then again maybe your just an idiot and, should spend 30$ on something a little more idiot friendly.
Timidity is TERRIBLE!!
It does not WORK! I got the patch and everything! It still doesn't work!
Why you might be having problems with this...
Apparently you need to download the GUS patches that the program uses separately.
Here then, from the Readme file:
"TiMidity++ uses GUS/patch (Glavis Ultrasound) as the voice data to play.
So you must get GUS/patch, and make the configuration file
C:\WINDOWS\TIMIDITY.CFG. Please check the following sites for many
voice(patch) data:

My main problem is that I want to use sf2 files. They say in the readme that timidity also reads soundfonts. Why doesn't that work?

Hi,
I haven't downloaded this product, but I have spent a little time going to various web pages regarding this product.
From what I can make out, this is a pretty fantastic product. However, I feel that you really need to have a much broader understanding than just downloading and running. It seems to rely alot on configuring etc. and most web pages on the product are in Japanese (very confusing).
If you are looking for something slightly more user-friendly (and I mean SLIGHTLY) for MIDI to WAV conversions, I would suggest Audio Compositor and WAV Maker. I think both can be found in this Shareware archive somewhere. They both cost though.

Great then I assume you are using it. If so can you send me a copy of your configuration file. I'm pretty sure that this is the area that confuses me.

Timidity 2++ v2.02 Doesn't seem to do a thing!
No command works! There ain't no midi 2 wav possibilities aa far as i can see

Software Problems
When I open your software on my Windows 98 format system, all I get is
a does prompt window inwhich it explains the software? What is the
problem, do I need some more patches or what? I went to your updates
page, I couldn't find anything to help me??

Can anyone send me a copy of their configuration file. I think I'm having a problem in this area. I can get the GUI up and set it in motion with an empty config file, but of course there's no sound.
