Installation problems

When I tried to install the application, I am getting the following message.
"Installation or uninstallation of this or any other program isn't complete. You must reboot and run Setup again.

If this message still appears even after rebooting, rename the wininit.ini file in your Windows directory ("C:\WINDOWS\WININIT.INI") and repeat the installation."

I tried to follow the instructions, still unable to install it. If anyone can help, please let me know.
Thanks

TotalRecorder Testimonial

To Whom it May Concern:
I am an Australian, unrelated to anyone involved with the production or sale of TotalRecorder. I purchased TR a couple of weeks ago and have recorded about 30 of my old audio cassettes and have found TR to be great. Its easy to use and, in spite of the inadequate electronic manual and documentation, its reasonably easy to set-up. Its also cheap and easy to buy: all you have to do is go to http://www.highcriteria.com/download/tr33se.exe, download TR and pay with your card (or cheque if you live in the USA or Canada). For those considering a product like TR I heartily recommend it.

i love this program

this is great, any prog that wont let you render can be rendered with this . thanks guys.

XP

I have upgraded to the XP and now my total recorder doesnt seem to work.. do you have a patch for this version of windows???

Re: XP

f you are planning to upgrade your Windows 95/98/ME system to Windows 2000/XP, you must take the following steps:

1. Before upgrading your Windows environment, uninstall Total Recorder.

2. After the upgrade is complete, reinstall Total Recorder.

3. Re-register Total Recorder. Have you registration information available.

Note: Total Recorder will not work if you simply upgrade your Windows environment to Windows 2000/XP without taking the steps described above.

only 3.3 is officially compatible with xp

Voice recording

I am studying hypnotherapy and need to make hypnotherapy recordings. Is this program suitable for recording my voice with a microphone and can music be added in the background?

A much better program for that would be Cool Edit

TR and Radio Streams?

Is TR the only software for recording live radio streams? Any other software out there?

Re: TR and Radio Streams?

: Is TR the only software for recording live radio streams? Any other software out there?

LineRipper can also record from live radio streams.
At the moment, I'm having audio quality problems using lineripper and do not know if they'll be resolved.

Lineripper is freeware.

Re: TR and Radio Streams?

Yes, TR is the only software for recording live radio streams. You can use only TR or capability
of your sound card (if the feature supported by your sound card). But TR have a number of advantages.

Copying Cassettes to CDROM

How hard is it to transfer what is on a cassette to a CDROM? Is it costly? What equipment and software would anyone suggest? Has anyone successfully done this? I know it can be done but I have no knowledge in this area... Help! Also is there anyone out there who knows of a successful way of transferring video to digital to .avi or other media player files at a price a single parent can afford???? thanks

Yes!!!

To copy cassettes to CD-ROM the 2 kinds of software are necessary:
1) sound analysis, level optimizing and recording to HDD in WAV format
2) recording to stanard CD-Audio or CD-MP3

For the first kind of softrware an UniScope is recommended.

PS
To capture video to digital some special cards with own software would be quite suitable.

First of all you need to transfer your sound
from cassete to hard drive with format:
44100Hz, 16bit, stereo. To do this one can use
for example Total Recorder ($12). To transfer sound from
hard drive to CDROM one can use for example WinOnCD or Adaptec Easy CD Creator. This
software generally supplied with CD-ReWriter/Recorder drive.
All this concerns with recording of audio-CD.
If it is not so, other actions are required.

Vitaly.

Dear Vitaly,
I bought a software product which enables one to copy LPs and tapes into CD form. However, I am trouble.I know the material (albums)isn't scratched but after recording the music into my hard drive during playback I get misses/skips in the reproduction. I tried increasing or decreasing the buffer at record and/or playback time, still I get these skips and jumps. I think the software is called Sound Cleaning Lab. I like the effects the software offers. Could it be me or the software that's creating the problem. Thanks for your help, Morris

AVOIDING SKIPS AND JUMPS

For recording casettes and vinyl discs to HD, I can suggest an easy and free(adsupported)program COWON-JETAUDIO .
To avoid from skips and jumps I learned by experience:
DISABLE THE SCREENSAVER and AFTER STARTING TO RECORDING DON`T DO ANYTHING WITH COMPUTER, until each record file finishes. CPU MUST BE INVOLVED ONLY WITH RECORD. For further info write me.

Re: Copying Cassettes to CDROM

The last answer missed out some vital stuff - the soundcard! Obviously you need one with a stereo line input - these are mostly standard now, but a few years ago, not quite as widespread. If you've got an oldie, you will have to buy a new one - a fair one only costs about 50GBP. See www.soundblaster.com

Make sure your tape player's graphic equaliser is set to off, or to flat. Otherwise you will be applying equalisation twice - once in the transfer, and again when you come to play back!

If you want to perform noise reduction on the finished product, I can recommend CoolEdit (www.syntrillium.com), although it's expensive. GoldWave (www.goldwave.com) offers a similar facility but it's nowhere near as good.

Noise reduction is not really necessary if your transfer is decent.

Using this method, I've started to copy to CD my archive of Classical music radio recordings, dating back to 1996. The results are excellent.

Contact me with any further enquiries, or about LP-CD transfer, which I also do! :-)

Cheerio!

Re: PROBLEMS

: I DOWNLOADED TOTAL RECORDER AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE TEE...INCLUDING CHANGING MY PREFERRED DIVICE IN MULTIMEDIA PROPERTIES TO THE TOTAL REORDER ONE BUT I'M STILL NOT ABLE TO RUN TOTAL RECORDER. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Likewise here. Running from the unzipped .ZIP
file gave all sorts of errors.

Downloaded the .EXE version. That installed just
about OK.

With all the parameters set correctly to record
from Line-In, I was able to record a short test
file.

It will not allow any futher recordings. The settings have not been changed.

Re-install did not help.

Installed it on another machine. Same problem: one test and one test only.

Any ideas?

(1st machine P750 Win 98SE. 512M)
(2nd machine P233 Win 98FE. 64M)

First of all WinAmp uses own decoding engine,
that is not depend on any codecs installed
in your system.
Total Recorder uses system codecs to decode\play
MP3.
Most likely, Windows Media Player replace your MP3 system codec with an MP3 codec supplied with WMP. Also it is posible WMP added it's MP3 codec
with higer priority then old codec.
To give you further suggestions it is desired to get answers on the following questions:
1. Do you was able to play THE SAME file before WMP was installed?
2. What sound characteristics of the MP3 file:
bitrate, samplerate, number of channels (you can see it in WinAmp).
3. Launch "Control panel"->"Multimedia", then the "devices" tab, "Audio compression codecs" branch. Inform about all strings containing "MPEG Layer 3" substring (in the same order as the strings appiars in the list).

Re: MPEG Layer III Problem

I have the same problem as you... I had to reload
windows 98 because of a problem. After doing
so I can record (because of the LAME driver)
in TotalRecorder but I can no longer hear the
recording trhough Total Recorder. I Have to use
winamp or some other mp3 player to hear the
just captured Mp3. A long time ago, I heard
about a software package that you can download
on your system that sets up the codac that
is needed by Total Recorder to play the recorded
mp3 file in total Recorder.

It worked.....

This program costs money but there was a
free trial. The
great thing about this free trial was that
when you un-installed it, it left behind the
codac that TotalRecorder needs to use
when playing a MP3 file in Total Recorder.

Note: It is the codac in windows you need...

The problem is: I forgot what the free trial
program was. I still have not found the
free trial so I still can't play my Mp3's
In total recorder....

I will be looking for this program but so far
no luck... I know that this response dosn't
fix the problem however if I find the Free Trial
program that I used before I will let you know.
Likewise If you find it please let me know.
