Software Description

TrackaDAT allows a P.C. with a sound card to be used as multi-track digital sound studio. Musicians can create songs by recording tracks while listening to what's already been recorded on other tracks.

TrackaDAT features track editing as well as effects such as echo, reverb, chorus, flange, distortion and equalization. The parameters of the effects can be tweaked by the musician to suit their needs and saved as presets so they can be used again. Tracks can can be combined to produce a CD quality mix.

Combining Tracks Static

I have used this program to record multiple tracks for songs. I love this program and have enjoyed using it. Yesterday, I decided to combine two tracks into a final mix wave file. When I did, the resulting file was an alternating series of the mixed tracks and static. So the song would play for a couple of seconds, and then static would play for a couple of seconds, and this repeated again and again. Does anyone have any suggestions?

New Version now available

There's a new version at the website, which I recommend trying out as this one had some bugs. I like to see a better interface for the program as it can get messy on my screen even at a higher resolution.

poor playback quality

hi, i am having really poor playback quality. i have winME on my laptop, 124 megs ram, celeron 475 mhz, and i am using a studio quality microphone.

i left the defaults for recording and when i play back anything, i get a large hum in the back ground and the audio is barely audible.

any ideas?

thanx

frank

Re: poor playback quality

First of all if your'e using the sound card that came with the laptop to do serious recording you need to buy a USB sound card or buy a G3 tower and get a digi001 :) if you absolutely must use this sound card, a suggestion might be to try putting an Isolation transformer between the computer and the mic. It sounds like a ground loop to me, I have this problem all the time with stock sound cards, actually any inexpensize analog card, I use a sound blaster live with an outboard AD/DA It works great.

Re: poor playback quality

you can never get rid of the hum in the background, this is solved with a soundproof room, or if the mic is placed straight into the computer without being amped up, the recording will be quiet after normalizing it. It also depends on what software you are using to record.
and you can also stop a bit of humming by using a popmask and a muffler.

hope i help a bit.

Dai.

Saw your comment. I have two questions:
1. On your microphone, are you using a STEREO 1/8" plug in the sound card's MIC jack? If not, you should get an adapter for it. The MIC jacks on most cards are stereo.

2. Are you using a full duplex card?

Re: poor playback quality

Dude, first let me say i wish i had a tyte computer and i mic. that works. Second, the humming might be because your mic. is recording at too high a level. Try to turn the record volume down, and save it at beter sound quality. Also, when playing back, unplug the mic. If this doesn't work, u'r screwed, so you can give me all your expensive stuff. Peace

getting recording where shouldn't

Nice program, has good possibilities.
My problem is when I record to a new track, the previously recorded tracks are also recorded to the new track. How can I record just the sound I'm inputting without adding the audio (to that track) from the other tracks? Of course I still want to monitor the other tracks so I can play along with them.
Thanks
Randy

Re: getting recording where shouldn't

Randall and I sent me some more Emai. I'm posting his email.
Yo Chris,

I found the problem of getting audio added to the new tracks from
previously
recorded tracks. My Creative Recorder was set to record "mixed output".
I
changed it to Mic only and walla, problem solved. Learn something new
everyday. This might help others in the future if they have the same
problem. Seems like if somebody gunna have a problem I'm usually the
one.
Keep makin' music,
Randy

Lag on tracks

This program has been working good, but when i try to record a second track over a first one, theres some lag and they aren't in sync. My machine is more than adequate for this program. Wondering if lowering sampling rates would help? thanx

Re: Lag on tracks

Lag can be caused by a slow disk access. To ensure fast disk access:
1. Defrag your drive
2. Turn off any power saving to your disk. You can do this from the control panel but depending on your motherboard you may also have to change some settings in you bios.

TrackaDAT help please

Seems like a good prog. but message - rec. but. is not enabled. I have instrument sound over speakers with mike
just can't rec. it. Sound card OK -enabled.
Could you please advise?
Regards.

Re: TrackaDAT help please

'Sup Rod
I had the same problem at first but then after
reading into it in help, I found out you have to
click and drag on the window of the track your recording on and that enables the rec button. Just drag it to the length you want it. By default it is only 30 sec. but you can change that on one of the tabs on top. Good luck!

Multi-track recording?

I can't for the life of me figure out how to record a second track and have the first one play. The help files are no help, and there's no contact info.
It is not a sound card problem. No matter what I do, I can either record the second track alone, rerecord the first track, or play the first track, but
I can't get the first track to play at all if I am recording the second track, whether I use the individual track controls or the master controls.
How do I get this thing to work?

Re: Multi-track recording?

I was having the same problem, but then I noticed after reading the help file that I was using the wrong "record" button. Use the one at the top of the screen, for the song, not the new track.

Re: Multi-track recording?

Yup, I had the same problem with Cakewalk
about a montha go.
Your sound card is functioning properly,
it probally doesn't support full Duplex-
Simultaneous Record/Play
I would recomend buying a new soundcard.
You can get a basic full duplex sound card
for about $30. THis will clear up your problem.

To test for Full Duplex capability - Open up a program
that play MP3s or Wavs. THen open up sound recoder.
Play a file and then swith to sound recorder and try
to record it, If you get an error message than your
sound card isn't full-Duplex

Hope this helps

Re: Multi-track recording?

Multi track recording works for me. I've tested trackadat on various WIN95/98 and 2000 boxes using both intel and amd processors. If you use the master controls you should hear the first track while recording the second one. Can you give me more info about your sound card? Are you plugged into line out or speaker out? Can you install new drivers for your sound card? It might help if you go to microsoft and install the new version of DirectX. I've tested using DirectX 6 and 7.

Re: Multi-track recording?

It seems that I am reading a lot about simultaneous play/record difficulties by the readers. A few even suggest that their sound cards are OK.

But in fact, the sound cards, although OK, may be the wrong type. In order to hear playbacks while recording, it is always best to have a FULL DUPLEX card installed. Without it, you will either do one or the other.
