guitar software/hardware

This qeistion my be a little stupid but, do you have or are you aware of anyone who sells aome kind of hardware for your p.c. that will enable you to connect the guitar chord directly into the "hardware" while using the appropriate software and almost use your p.c. as an amplifier. I would be interested in something like this considering the cost of amps and "effects". thankyou, Dave
