want to transfer minidisc (via line-in) to mp3

i am finding many programs that allow such features.... but only for 5 minutes or something ... or they don't save, etc.
are there any truly freeware programs, even though basic, that would allow me to record from line-in onto the hard drive as mp3's AND with a peak record level meter ?

please let me know .... anyone !!!
