Software Description

The Yamaha S-YXG50 Synth is no longer available to download

Optimised code allows the softsynth to run at 44.1KHz 16bit resolution with full effects processing on MMX PCs, or standard PCs with cpu speeds in excess of 166MHz.

The software offers 676 fully programmable voices, 21 fully programmable drum kits (GM/TG300B & full XG), and a staggering 3 parallel 24 bit resolution effects busses.

S-YXG50 Operating Environment

Problems in .wav files - please help!

Hi.

I have a Pentium MMX 200MHZ with 32Megs of memory running Win98. I am using S-YXG50 and have the following problem: Whenever a .wav file is played automatically by Windows (like when you chenge the volume or some message pops up wihtn a "ding", etc.), the sound never stops - the first hlf a second or so of the music keeps playing again and again in a loop. It stops after some time if I fiddle with other wave files or voulme control, or any other program which accesses the card.

Also note that when played via an application like windows's media player, the .wav files play fine. The problem is only in auto-play.

The same behaviour was observed in NT also.

Desperately looking for help,

Thankls,

Rahul.

tone generating

I'm a total newborn at this.
1-I want to take any existing song and make the left and right
channels any where for m 3 to 40hz different in frequency.
Is this an abominal job? What do I need to do it? Can i start with an mp3?
2-I also want to computer synthesize a 3-40hz signal af drum beats(like
a metronome) w/o any external input. Is this posible and what is needed?

Please be as detailed as posible in terminology and instructions( I don't
mind feeling like an infant) so I can get the hang of this
stuff AFAP.

Thanx
Ken

Sounds like you're doing brainwave synchronization. Try Cool Edit Pro, it has a function built in called (you guessed it) "Brainwave Synchronization", which will take music (or a pure tone) and create the frequency spread for you. Download it at www.syntrillium.com.

Playing S-YXG50 with external keyboard

I've installed the S-YXG50 demo softsynth and XGWorks demo sequencer, and connected a MIDI keyboard to the pc's joystick port. Now how do I get sound from the S-YXG50 using my MIDI keyboard (preferably while the sequencer's playing)?

installing s-yxg50 on WinNT

I have an end user trying to install the S-YXG50 sound card on a PC with WinNT with no luck. I think the problem stems from the fact that Yamaha states that it will work on WinNT, but they didn't send instructions for it. Any suggestions or help?

wavetable

Hi! Does anyone know a wavetable emulator that has some classical instruments that sound real?
Maybe you've noticed, but on most emulators piano is fine but the
viola, trombones, trumpets etc. sound awful! Sietse

Yamaha S-YXG50

I've read most of the comments and I have to add that this synth works just fine. I use Cakewalk Pro 8 and there is a slight delay when recording in real-time.If you check out the help files, it's mentioned there. The solution is to just record using your soundcard's output ports, record your stuff, reassign the output ports to the Yamaha's instrument sounds and drum kits and then save/export it. Hope that this has been of some help. Bye....

Re: Yamaha S-YXG50, Duke Nukem and Mpeg cards

If I try to use the sound setup program for this program with my S-YXG50 as soon as I try to run the program the computer restarts.

Anyone else come across this ?

Also - I've just installed a RealMagic Mpeg card and now the yamaha card will not work at all (no conflicts, despite being unload (properly) and re-loaded several times.

Now What?

I Just bought a Presario with a s-yxg50 card and I want to get into Midi and make some music on my PC. I am a musician but I don't know what I need to do next. I have an older keyboard with a midi in and a midi out. What is the cheapest way to get into some basic midi equipment. I just want to get started and don't want to spend 1000 bucks right away. this thing has all these voices and drum kits but where the hell are they? Please Help.

DOS Compatibility

Is there any way to use the S-YXG50 card in DOS.
More specifically, in a DOS based game like Duke Nukem.
The machine crashes when the game tries to access my DMA channel
through Windows. Obviously I can't run the game through
DOS with no specific drivers so if anyone knows anything
about this please contact me at the above e-mail address.

Thanks

Compare XG and GS

How does this one compare to the Roland one? I would like to hear YOUR opinions!

Re: Im new & cant decide

the S-YXG50 is made for pentium with MMX
if you don't have that
go to the yamaha site
there's another soft-wavetable you can get
that can be handled by less than MMX pentiums

Tone Generator Problem

Maybe I just don't get it...but how does one use the
synth as a tone-generator...The on line manual states
that it can switch modes but I don't quite see how to
do it. It runs fine as a midi-playback but I want to
access its internal voices for possible composition or
just play. Please feel free to e-mail me directly.
Thanx

Dear Steve,
First of all install a sequencer program, such as Cakewalk.
Play some of the included midi files, listen carefully to the instrument and drum sounds.
Next, change the individual tracks' output ports to the Yamaha. Here you can do loads of stuff..try everything.
I'm no expert, but feel free to e-mail me,okay.

windows98 and software wavetable

Has anyone else noticed a problem with windows98 when you try to run this, or other software wave table program. there is a half second delay between the note on the keyboard being played and the actual note being heard, which makes it impossible to perform any music.

Any idea's anyone?

all software synths have a delay in them.if you want real time you need a hardware synth,or a soundcard like yamaha's sw1000

Obviously neither of you has used Windows98 or software synths very much or else you wouldn't be so close-minded. It needs exploring why there is AS BIG OF A DELAY AS THERE IS in the software and changing your OS to suit the software probably isn't a realistic option.

Windows98 and software wavetable

think of it this way, you processor has to relay alot of info to your current sound card while rendering it at the same time. this explains the delay. a hardware synth renders the sounds on a chip that is specialized for doing so. the hardware synth is absolute real time. THE SOUND IMPULSES DONT HAVE TO GO ALL THROUGH YOUR SYSTEM! and it isnt win98, software wavetable has a slight delay NO MATTER WHAT OS YOU HAVE

Re: Windows98 and software wavetable

yeah man,it's the normal latency of a software synthesyzer,i would also say one thing:IF U R NOT ABLE TO UNDERSTAND HOW THINGS WORK SIMPLY DON'T CRITICIZE!!!!

I think it is a software problem. it is possible to make software wavetable with delay cca 0.01 second. (i have tried it under dos one or two years ago. it worked on poor sb16 compatible card. [AudioExcel 16 PnP] :-) )

are you using yamaha sxg software emulator or something like that ? (it is enclosed with mediaforte cards and with some motherboards (via kt133)). it is very slow and works only sometimes.
i have tried it with duron 700 and it was terrible.

Problem

Hi, can anybody help me solving a problem.
I have the AWE64, and the s-yxg50 running. The midi sounds great but in some programs, like Cakewalk 7 there's this audio problem.
I can record and play, but in combination with midi, it's a complete mess.
Also I'm not able anymore to use the Awave out in these programs. It just doesn't work. But when I do use the s-yxg50 wave thing it's not sync anymore.
if there's anybody who has solved this problem please tell me.
By the way, maybe It's just that I run everything on a AMD 233 MMX system.
Bye and Thanx

Hello. I don't know if I fully understand your problem, or it's final resolution. I do know the CW 7 Help specifically mentions that synchronization problems can/will occur if more than one soundcard is used. CW 7 requires that one soundcard is designated as a "master" in order to avoid these synchronization difficulties. I suggest you dig out your CW 7 manual and/or go through CW 7 Help to see if your soundcards are optimized properly. Good Luck.
