Pluses + Minuses
Groove Mechanic does what I think is a better than average job of cleaning up Vinyl recordings for us low-budget people (meaning those of us without super-computers and software that makes an Ezio Penza 78 sound track like it was recorded yesterday on as digital track).
Unfortunately it seems to have one really irritating flaw. Saving the files, which support seems to imply is effortless an unneccesary as Groove Mechanic takes care of this, but not so! I can't tell you the number of times that I've finished one process successfully and then had to shutdown my computer to give it (or me!) a break. Afterwards, I find that not only the the original file, but the saved file, seem to be non-existant!
Let's face it... The analysis and elimination of clicks, than hiss, etc, on a well used vinyl disk can take a long time. If your software cannot ve counted on or even trusted to save that work when you ask it to initiate such a simple command, even the saintly may find themselves in at least a major fit of rage. And unlike practically any other software I have ever used, this is a consistent problem with Groove Mechanic.
The support reply was fast but their answer regarding this saving problem was no answer for me. It only allowed me to confirm on further use of this software that while Groove Mechanic may do the specialized tasks which you might want it to do, the most basic it can almost be counted on NOT to do. Listen FAST! Woops! Alas.. My well cleaned audio file. I loved her well, but how fast she disappeared from my hard drive. A fleeting glance of what could be... If only Groove Mechanic could manage to save a file when asked to. It's like the fish that got away. Must have been 6 foot tall!
