Software Description

The iSong Player provides a unique interactive environment that immerses the user in the music-learning experience. Synchronized with the digital recordings of legendary and contemporary musicians, an animating score allows the musicians to "see" the music and rhythm they are hearing on the audio file. iLevels allow users to select an appropriate skill level, from note-accurate transcriptions for advanced players to easier arrangements for beginning players. A virtual fretbaord/keyboard that can be oriented for player or spectator illustrates the song being played on the instrument. Clicking the mouse on fretboard/keyboard produces a note and the visual identification of that note. Looping and exact cueing allow the user to select specific passages to play repeatedly, while a tempo control allows the musician to learn at a comfortable pace.

Please note that the Player must have a song (.sng) or audio file in order to work.

Problem getting isong to work

I bought the Robert Johnson CD ROM and have been unable to get the thing to work. I placed the CDROM into my Dell Latitiude Laptop with Windows 98 and the thung sounds like its going to start up then I get a Window that says
"You need ability to play back Midi Sound Data in order to run isong software" I don't know what to do at this point and am thinking about returning it to Guitar Center. I also cannot get to their www.isong.com/support website. Have they gone out of business. I'm at wit's end with this thing and am very frustrated. Any help would be most appreciated. I have placed CDs on my laptop before and tey usually start right up. Thanks very much, I'm about ready to get the 12 guage out and flip it off the porch! Robert

Re: Problem getting isong to work

Hi Robert,
it is not the CD that not works, it´s your laptop!!!
Your latitude needs a software wavetable-synthesizer to play midi!! I´ve got the same problem with mine. With the Latitude you need Win2k to play midi by itself, without software-Wavetable-synthesis. Earlier OSes need that! But there are any for free in the web!! I hope it helped, Bob

: I have a similar problem. I'm sure it's not the fault of my computer because three different people have tried, and all agree that the thing doesn't work. It's just like putting in a blank cd. Nothing happens.

Re: Problem getting isong to work

gone out of business - no , they were bought by hal leaonard.

I guess it needs MIDI (you need drivers, soundcard) - this is probably going to be a wonderful tool one day, in the meantime it turn us into techno-geeks instead of musicians/players. There are always other ways to learn...

I guess I just made up my mind not to buy it for the same reason.

And laptops can be esepecially a pain, more than desktops.

: Cool

iSong.com is the most awesome site I've come across for musicians and music lovers. I'm really enjoying learning how to play guitar, especially from Jimi Hendrix.
