These variations on the theme of a Slovak Folk Song are the most effective set of variations for performance in Op. 51. The lyrical theme that opens this set is soon displaced by lively and animated variations that build to a sparkling climax in variation five before the return of the opening cantabile theme in variation six. Written in 1952, this variation has been impeccably edited for performance by Guy Maier.
