Re: uploading to web page

how / with which prog do you upload your files?
I'd recommend you to use WS-FTP. it's easy to
handle and works.
under the directory-screen you can select
between ASCII or binary upload.

Thanks for the tip! I always uploaded the "easy"
way, straight into the upload box from my pc. I
never did it the FTP way. I guess I have much to
learn. Carol

If you have WIN98 you can download tools for IE 5.0 from Windows Update Page which allow you use FTP directory absolutely the same way like you use directories on your very own harddrive.

fruity tracks...

Can anyone tell me me where to find mp3-files to add to the program "fruity tracks"? I'd really like to add some stuff to the sounds I have for the moment.

How can I convert MP3 to Midi

I need to convert mp3 to midi, can you tell me how.

Re: How can I convert MP3 to Midi

: I need to convert mp3 to midi, can you tell me how.

You can't - to understand why you should read <ul><li><a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9903_105/">What's the difference between Wave, MIDI, MOD and MP3?</a> <li><a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9903_101/">A quick primer on converting WAV to MIDI and vice versa</a></ul>

Re: How can I convert MP3 to Midi

How can I convert WAVE to MIDI???

Re: How can I convert MP3 to Midi

I also think it's impossible but there exists a
program that converts MIDI to WAV. (however,
maybe it just plays the MIDI-file with GM-sounds
and saves the whole track as WAVe.)
when you have it converted to WAV it shouldn't be
a prob to make a MP3 of it.

Converting MPG to AVI

Hi everyone,

Can someone help me with this problem? I need to convert a Mpeg 1 file to Avi or Mov. As far I know, there are no such programs available, but I think it should be possible somehow.
Maybe someone knows a program which does the conversion?

Thanks in advance,

Bram den Boer

Re: Converting MPG to AVI ( i hope)

an easy way is to change the extension of the mpeg 1 from .mpg or .vob to .avi or .mov. u wont get any difference in size, but itll play on a avi player. im not sure if itll work, but its worth a try!

Re: Converting MPG to AVI ( i hope)

OMFG! Are you using Windows Media Player by any chance?????
All you are doing is renaming the file, rename it to blah.xxx and it'll still play. It still uses the mpeg decompressor, not the avi one. PLEASE if you don't know wtf you're on about, DON'T post because it leads ppl in the wrong direction.
if you want to convert an mpg to an avi, download a proggy that does it, like virtualdub or flaskmpeg or mpg2avi.exe

Help--want to remove crowd noise from a wav file

I'm a complete beginner to the world of computer music... but, I do have Cool Edit Pro, and I'm currently working on mastering a live show of a friend's band. The problem is, the recording source was audience mic's (therefore I'm working with a single wav, no multitrack), and the crowd noise tends to overwhelm the music at times. Does anyone have suggestions to separate/remove or at least significantly lessen the audience noise without affecting the music too much?

Please reply by email if you would (remove ".unchi").

Thanks,
Fubar

re:

Cool edit pro would be have a PLUG IN NOISE REDUCTION by Sonic Foundry if not try with DART PRO 32 , denoise function or capture noise. DART PRO ABOUT 100 $US in www.sbfilmaudio.com

Trying to convert Roland VS 840 songs on Zip to Cubase or Cakewa

I have some of my songs on a Zip Disk from a friend's Roland VS 840 and i dont know how to open these songs into my software programs ie Cubase VST Cakewalk 8
Acid or WAvelaB. The file formats are not compatible can any one help me!!! Is there a program i can use or how do i get these songs onto my computer!!!!

Re: Trying to convert Roland VS 840 songs on Zip to Cubase or Ca

isn't there an option to save those songs as
midi-file? or did you search for a converter?

maybe you could ask at
www.rolandmusik.de

Re: Trying to convert Roland VS 840 songs on Zip to Cubase or Ca

You can't use the zip disk in any other zip device other than the Roland unit.
You must record your songs in real-time from the VS to the computer through the
sound card. It is highly recommended that you purchase a digital s/pdif input
card for this purpose. Otherwise, you will lose the digital quality as you
enter the machine via an analog sound card.

What Cakewalk program do I need to record to, if any?

Re: Trying to convert Roland VS 840 songs on Zip to Cubase or Ca

Can you recommend a digital input sound card? (cost effective)

Thanks Keith

Re: Trying to convert Roland VS 840 songs on Zip to Cubase or Ca

I have been trying to work this one out for a while. Thanks for the input so far.

A really basic question from a slow learner -

Once you have installed Cakewalk or Cubase and the digital input card, how do you physically connect the VS 840 to the computer?

I want to be able to record on the VS 840, master it on the computer and then burn onto a CD. Any suggestions welcome.

Re: Trying to convert Roland VS 840 songs on Zip to Cubase or Ca

You can't convert the files into cubase but you can use your computer to back up your songs and save you some money on zip disks. If you're like me I like to keep all my songs so I can always go back and add more to it especially when I've picked up some new equipment (I just went back to some older songs and rerecorded the keyboard parts with my new Alesis QS6.1). Put in the zip disk from the Roland and copy it to your hard drive or you can burn it on a cd. Now you can reuse your zip disks. When you want to use the song that you've backed up you must first initialize the zip disk on your Roland then you can copy all the files from your computer or back up cd. When it asks you if you want to overwrite the existing files always say yes. This will save you alot of money on zip disks.

Sidedrum notation program

I am after a music notation package for the sidedrum. I have tried Finale, but it is impossible to use. The type of drumming I do requires only 1 lined clef rather than the normal five which a bass clef uses. Is there any programs out there that do the job. Or has anyone got decent documentation on Finale and possibly a sample file which I can look at. All help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Sidedrum notation program

1st of all I found out that Finale works great for your purposes. I'm sometimes using it as well for my pipe-band music notation.

There is another cool tool which is not supported any longer which is called the "Music Printer +". That one's awfully old and strange to use in the beginning. But if you found out about the strange onscreen-output (which looks really fantastic on a printed page!) and the behaviour of the programm with it's horrible hotkey-usement, you will love it. Takes a while to learn but afterwards it's great, somehow. Don't ask where to get it. Don't have a clue.

Best regards, Dr.Sterni.

Re: Sidedrum notation program

Ian,

Finale offers you exactly this notation style
in the staff attributes window. You might have a look
into the manual, it's described there how to
use this tool.

Harald

Encore and QuickTime instruments

I am using Passport's Encore v4.0b28 and QuickTime 4.0.1.
When using the built in synth, the Best Synthesizer option is greyed out so I am unable to use the Drum Kits in my songs. Is there a preference I can change or an update for Encore that will fix this?

recording guitar to cubase: how?

I want to record my guitar to cubase vst 24 But i dont know how . please help!!!

Re: recording guitar to cubase: how?

you have to connect your guitar to an amplifier
and this one to your soundcard's line-INput.

start recording.
