: I have a soundblaster live and am using its midi port with a split midi in/out adapter. I am running Win98 as my OS. I am trying to get my Ensoniq SD-1 to communicate with Cakewalk 8 but am unable to make the connection no matter what I try. Can anyone give me some hints about the general set up between a midi synth, a SB Live and Win98 (For the moment I am assuming that the physical set up i.e cables etc are ok)? I am at my wits end!

Hi!
Before you do anything try this:
1. Check SBlive mixer setup. It can be reached from Creative Launcher (move cursor to the top of the screen). Make sure that SBLive! mixer settings say: 'Composing desktop music' and 'MIDI sequencing'.
2. In Cakewalk go to options or preferences (I am not sure) find MIDI devices and make sure that SBlive MIDI in (on the left) and A:MIDI Synth OUT are hilighted and are on the top of all devices. I don't have cakewalk in front of me so please forgive my spelling.
3. Make sure that your track in Cakewalk is 'armed' and set to MIDI (left click on it and check properties).
4. let me know if it still doesn't work.

sounds like youve got the software but havent installed it ! try looking in your mydocuments folder to see if thats where the programme is !! if not try the find item on the start button !
once you find it double click it and follow instructions ... take a note of where it is insatlling incase it doesnt give you a shortcut.

You can try converting them to WAVs and then try noise reduction using a program like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit 2000</a>

Yes. Firstly convert your RA files to WAV files using <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Ra2Wav_Pentium/">Ra2Wav</a> then convert them to MP3s.

I've taken the liberty to answer this question though I'm NOT Effjay (or even a DeeJay for that matter)
A PCM wav. file is the standard wav format used by Windows.
PCM means Pulse Code Modulation, and there's a lot of derived formats around like Microsoft ADPCM, which is a compressed audio format, and mp3 which is even more compressed.

I have the software that burns the mp3s into cda(redbook) automatically as it burns the files to disk, but not for free-sorry, but maybe someone you know will be willing to will buy it and give you a copy, or split the cost?........ Just thought I'd offer. It's $249.95 for the full powerpak edition w/manual
