Right, here's the deal. If you want to record the output from your MP3 DJing program to wav and you don't have one that has built in recording, forget about utilities like Total Recorder and Virtual Cable. Total Recorder seems to have problems recording the output of other programs unless you can set the output sound device to Wave Mapper or Automatic. Most MP3 mixing programs won't let you do that. If your program does let you set the main output to either Wave Mapper or Automatic, then you can probably use Total Recorder. Virtual Cable has enough of a delay between the input and output devices that in most programs I noticed a slower response time when pressing play. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist. The quality of MP3 has enough problems that I don't like the idea of using an analogue connection between two sound cards either. So after a lot of frustration, I finally figured it out. Here's what you have to do. Step 1: First you need at least one duplex sound card. Not much of a problem most of them are these days. Set your programs main output to a duplex sound card and the headphones to a second one if you have one. Step 2: Go into Control Panel under the Start Menu under settings. Open Multimedia. In the Audio Tab check to see if the Sound Card you set as the main output in your DJ program is the selected Playback device. Step 3: Click on the Playback button. If in step 2 the card you set as your main output in your program was the selected Playback device, make sure that Wave is selected and that the volume is set to something reasonable. It should say Wave or Wave/DirectSound or something like that. If you don't see it or if in step 2 the card you selected as your main output in your program wasn't the selected Playback device, click on the Options Menu, click on Properties, select the Mixer Device for the sound card you set as the main output for your program and make sure Adjust volume for Playback is selected. In the list select Wave or Wave/DirectSound and click OK. Now you should see it. Make sure it's selected and set the volume. Then close the Play Control window. Step 4: In the Audio Tab check to see if the Sound Card you set as the main output in your DJ program is the selected Recording device. Step 5: Click on the Recording button. If in step 4 the card you set as your main output in your program was the selected Recording device, make sure that Wave is selected and that the volume is set to something reasonable. If you don't see it or if in step 4 the card you selected as your main output in your program wasn't the selected Recording device, click on the Options Menu, click on Properties, select the Mixer Device for the sound card you set as the main output for your program and make sure Adjust volume for Recording is selected. In the list select Wave. Warning! If you don't have a duplex sound card you may not see it listed. Click OK. Now you should see it. Make sure it's selected and set the volume. Then close the Record Control window. Click OK to close Multimedia Properties and then close Control Panel. Step 6: Run your DJ program and a recording program. In your recording programs options set the recording device to the same one as the main output for your DJ program. If your recording program doesn't allow you to set the sound devices internally )most of them do), you'll have to set the sound card you selected in your DJ program as your Recording Preferred device in Multimedia. Start recording and what you mix should be recorded. Some mixing programs will take over your sound card. In this case you'll either have to wait until you close your DJ program to playback what you've recorded or you'll have to set your recording programs output to another device internally or in Multimedia.

Scanning Music

I hope that there is someone out there who can help me. I'm trying to find a music program much like Music Time Delux that I can scan sheet music into it. I belong to a Chorus and it realy helps us out playing the music back to practice. Hope someone can help.

Rick

Re: Scanning Music

Pianoscan seems to be the only one available. I have it ver 2.5. Go to musitek.com version 3.0 I see it is out. It's not bad. Needs a lot of imput, and training. 3.0 may be better. it ain't cheap!

Re: Scanning Music

There is another scanning system someone has recommended for music called Sharp Eye. You can dowmload a free demo version from their website. I haven't had time to try it yet/
Good luck

Re: Scanning Music

: Rick,
I've been looking for the same thing, looking to enter old handwritten arrangements to get a midi file to then put into Finale, open it up and print out parts. Help.
Tim

Re: Scanning Music

The only one on the market would appear to be Photoscore which is in with Sibelius.
It isn't just scanning you need - the programme then has to be able to read the scan.
Photoscore(Full) does some things, but doesn't read triplets & it is amazing how many of those there sre in music. there is a new updatye of Sibelius due out soon which should handle reading scanned music pretty weell. See their Website.

Re: Scanning Music

Help for a Sweet Adeline that also needs to scan the music, and make a MIDI file out of it, for practice purposes. I down loaded MIDISCAN but I can't make it work. The notation program I'm working with is Music Time Deluxe. Thanks Judy

dj need recording software

my buddy is spinning and we want to make some cd's. what is some good (and free) software to get us started. i guess we would run a line form his receiver to the comp, but how would we record that as a wav? what programs?

RESPONSE: Hey man, I am still learning to do that myself; but I do know you need a decent soundcard to handle that type of load that turntables give; The SOundblaster LiVE by Creative comes with a wav. studio recorder, it has everything you would need. If your soundcard is good enought, then you just gotta get Sound Forge 4.0 or 4.5 program to record and edit...good luck...

Re: dj need recording software

I have a digital sound card that I use to record my mixes with.

Here is the sequence:
Turntable : MD Recorder : Digital Soundcard :
Save as WAV file (SoundForge): Burn to CD

That's it. Easy as pie. Get a soundcard with an input (RCA, optical, etc.)

Re: dj need recording software

Here's the problem. I have the MD,Soundcard(SoundBlaster Live),and everything that I need .When I burn the CD I hear nothing. I'm thinking that perhaps it's becasue I didn't have a TOC(table of contents) on the CD. AM I right? If so what do I need or how do I edit the WAV file to include the TOC? Will the WAV editor in my sound card do? or Do I need the SOUNDFORGE program to do that?

Re: Just wondering if the DJ still need help burning to CD....I

: So I take it you can make a wav file. If you can get it to wav format. I use a program. not to difficult and I burn CDS all day long. I do just for fun. And have yet to have a problem. Let me know if you still need help and I'll send you link to how I burn CD's
