You need to download a CD Ripper program to create
WAV files from a CD - you will find heaps of them at

Music Software

Help! I've just gotten a songwriting partner with me and we're currently working on demos to attract players. We're two guitarists with an old MIDI keyboard and are interested in getting some decent drum sounds and better synth sounds. We've been thinking of buying Cakewalk or Cubase but aren't sure if it's the right way to go. I'd like some basic info about how the software works and what we would need to get started. If possible, responses regarding System Reqs would be helpful, as well as some reviews and/or experiences.

What's in your budget? Do you want mainly audio, or MIDI capabilities? On a tight budget, I'd recommend a decent PC (350 or higher) with as much ram (at least 128 meg) and hard drive (at least 10 gig) as you can afford, and a SoundBlaster Live! card. Comes with a remarkably useful starter versions of Cakewalk, SoundForge and some other nifty stuff. The main advantage of the SB card is it's ability to use SoundFonts. You can get very nice drums, basss, etc. for almost nothing from the Web.

A few might laugh at this configuration, but I've made good money with demos off this stuff. The gear is not the key. It's the material. More expensive gear only makes bad music more clearly bad. Best of luck.

Help!What do i do next???Finished song in cubase vst24/3.7

EMU makes the rackmount Proteus 2000, wich is a very versatile synth w/ real time filters. They offer expansion cards, one of them is the Protozoa Expansion wich includes sounds from the proteus 1, 2, & 3. I bought mine for $800 & the expansion card came w/ it for an additional $100 at American Music Supply(www.americanmusical.com).
This is something to look into, because this synth packs alot of bang for the buck, 16part mulitimbral, the sounds & filters are incredible.
Hopes this helps you some.

effects software for use with Protools 3.4 ?

I got the Free version of ProTools a few years back. It doesn't support plug-ins. Are there any effects programs around that will work with this version of Pro tools or on Soundd designer 2 files?

Re: effects software for use with Protools 3.4 ?

No, can't use any effects within ProTools. You will have to bounce your audio files to disk and then open them in a sound editing application that offers the effects you desire. There are a number of shareware audio editing options.

Re: effects software for use with Protools 3.4 ?

Some plugins can be used with Protools FREE. Its a trial and error kind of thing.

tape to computer/edit/back to tape

I am absolutely new to this and have mainly been used to dealing with graphics.
I have parts of differant tracks of CD which I put on tape and I want to edit them so that there is a smooth transition between the tracks and also be able to lengthen or shorten the tracks to fit my time constraint and also I would like to be able to perhaps speed up or slow down part of the music.
I own a new Sony Vaio PCG-F390.
Any help would be very much appreciated

I don't know if this is any help but, Plug in your taped deck to the line input of your laptop, and you need a wav editor. I recomend goldwave which is free shareware. You would then record your track in goldwave ,where you can then edit it how you please before recording it back to tape.Plus goldwave has the option of speeding up tracks!

Need software to crossfade songs & burn CD's

Hello,
I am a DJ, and I need a program that will let me crossfade from one song to another so there are no gaps between the songs. I also need this software turn the songs onto CD as individual songs.
Currently I am using Cool Edit Pro to make my mixes, but when I burn them to CD, I can't jump to individual songs within the mix. I need a program that will let me mix 2 songs together, place a marker where the 2nd song starts, and lets me burn the CD so I can just let the CD play and fade from one song into the next, or be able to jump to an individual track within the mix.
Does anyone know of a program that will do this?
The easier the better.

Please E-mail your response to prodj@dmci.net

Thanks, Mark Williams

Re: Need software to crossfade songs & burn CD's

You should try firewriter, which lets you customize fade in and out time, and make place markers to jmp from track to track. or acoustica cd burner does some cool dj style mixing stuff.
Or buy some turntables and make your mix the way it is meant to be heard. then just use cool edit for place markers.

Re: Need software to crossfade songs & burn CD's

there will be a new version of Pro-Dat (www.lenzcomputing.de)
with mixing songs and cdr the whole mix and o lot of other features,
but its still in beta and cdr is not implemented yet.
try to contact the author for further information

Re: Need software to crossfade songs & burn CD's

Waveburner will do crossfades, and I believe Jam will also. Both require a scsi CD burner (USB burners aren't supported yet) and disk-at-once capability. By far the best and most expensive is MasterDisk ($500!) the others are in the $200 range. Cheers, Pete

MP3 to MUSIC CD

Can anyone tell me how to copy mp3 music to a music CD so that any CD Player will read it.

Re: MP3 to MUSIC CD

: Can anyone tell me how to copy mp3 music to a music CD so that any CD Player will read it.

Try Nero Burning Rom, you don't have to convert anything. This program will automaticly covert your mp3's to cd audio on the fly.

Re: MP3 to MUSIC CD

: Can anyone tell me how to copy mp3 music to a music CD so that any CD Player will read it. Convert Wav to cda o cdr?

Re: MP3 to MUSIC CD

First you have to decode the mp3 file to wav. There are many programms that can do it. After that you write it to a CD as audio (not as data) and it is transformed to a .cda file that can be read by all cd players
