I have been trying to get protools le 5 up and running reliably. I now have hundreds of hours researching solutions and testing configurations. I would like to know if there is really any hope of ever having a reliable home recording solution for my mac. I am considering starting over with a differnt software solution as I find Digidesign to be unreliable at this point.

Will ProTools 5 XP every work?
If so, what is the solution?

Is there a reliable system for this G4 os9 configuration?
If so, can you recomend the software / hardware Solutions?

Thanks for any input as this CRa% has got to end.

Just running out of time an patients.

ProTools LE IS in fact reliable ! (More than any PC system anyway). But maybe you should try using Mac OS 8.x instead !

Noise problem with Cubase VST

When recording audio with Cubase VST I get an incredible quantity of noise. I usually do the recording while I listen to my other audio/midi tracks set in cubase itself (could that be causing the problem?) When I record from ay other program that terrible noise is not present. I'd like to know the cause of that noise and any possible solutions. Thanks in advance.

A few reasons:-
a) Do you have a SB AWE 64 Gold ? I did and it produced an awful lot of noise. The new SB Live! is a lot better.
b) You are probably getting noise due to an unequal line impedance on your Soundcard/input device - try putting a small mixer inbetween - mine costed 50$ but it sorted the added gain problem.
c) Do you have an expensive 3D sound card with ventilator fan next/close to your sound card?

Yes. If I get a new soundcard I would try for a higher standard than SB, I think.

That can't be causing the problem, I guess, since I only get the noise when I record under Cubase VST, and not while recording with other software

removing drum beats

I'm burning music with a microsollutions backpack external (parallel port)

I'm using adaptec's easy cd. When I record either a single song or multiple songs,
each song is cut short. Not sure why this is happening!!!

Buffer problems?

Converting MP3's to Wav on a Mac?

I want to convert MP3's to wav file so I can burn them on a CD to play in an audio cd player. I have toast 3.5. I am not completely sure if wav is the only format that a non- computer cd player can read. Even so, is there a mp3 to wav converter for Mac's. If not, is there another file format specific for Mac's that can be read by non-computer cd players.

A partial answer for your question would be that AIFF is a format for Mac's and can be used in
Toast for cd's that will play on most, if not all, non-computer players.I would associate WAV files moreso with IBM's than MAC. As for the converters, I'm not sure what program will help, I use a Mac & Toast and have converted audio to AIFF, AIFF to MP3 (separate encoder), AIFF to WAV but haven't done MP3 to WAV. Maybe one of those MP3 encoders will allow a variety of formats? Hope one of my scenarios will help in your overall question.

Fast download of RealAudio files for offline listening

I am interested in downloading archived radio broadcasts in RealAudio format, converting them to .mp3 or .wav, then listening to them offline using a portable .mp3 player. I see where there are many ways to convert .ra to .wav, for example, but my problem is quickly downloading the .ra file. I can record the .ra file using RealPlayer, but that takes as long a listening to the entire clip! Does anyone know how to force a download of a RealAudio clip at maximum speed rather than streaming speed?? TIA...

ok, open your winamp, then choose the following:

1.options
2.preferences
3. plug-ins (output)
4. Nullsoft Disk-Writer

then configure into which directory you want to write the files an press play, thats it !

OS9 and Cubase

A friend of mine has bought a 500mhz
G3 laptop with OS9.
He is running Cubase 4.1
Anytime he launches Cubase the machine
goes belly up.
Its a clean machine with hardly anything
else on it.
Is there compatability problems with OS9
and Cubase 4.1?

Here is one possible solution. I use Mac but I guess u probably use PC.My suggestion is to record your music onto a cassette
tape or mini disk.Play this into the computer and record it as a
wav file. This file can then be converted to an MP3 file using
some (I dont know which one )program.
