Problem with music software

Hello,
I have Napster Beta 6 on my computer to download MP3's.
I was not satisfied with the MP3 player that Napster includes and so I downloaded the DJDEMO2000 from you.
The program is great, but I don't know how to connect Napster to it. In other words, if I want to listen to a song while I'm in Napster, how can I program it to automatically connect to DJ200DEMO and play it there, without me opening the program?
Also, DJ2000DEMO automatically renews changes from Napster. When a song is not downloaded completely, I can delete it from Napster, but it will still appear in DJ200DEMO. Is there a way to delete it simultaneously for both programs?
Thank you very much in advance. Looking forward to your answer.
Sincerely,
Martha

P/S/ Great site, by the way!

From Napster to Winamp

Hello,
I have Napster Beta 6 on my computer to download MP3's.
I was not satisfied with the MP3 player that Napster includes and so I downloaded Winamp from you.

Re: From Napster to Winamp

first of all
go to your napster settings and change it so it plays mp3s through winamp, there should be a flag (tickbox) or something of the sort, saying playing with inbuilt player or other, (in such terms anyhow).. thats how u do it

and it will play mp3s whilst u download them even if their not finished..

my recommendation is use morpheus as well :)

if you need any help again feel free to email me.

I do not manage to make a slow speed audio CD copy

Up till now the copies of audio CD's I make with my normal CD player to a separate CD recorder are better than the copies I make on my PC. I blame it partly on the fact that usually the copies are made with 3 or 4 times the speed. I usually first make a copy to the harddisk. I used adaptec Easy CD creator 3.5, Nero 4, exactaudiocopy, they all go fast, although I tell them to go as slow as possible. On the other hand is my normal CD player an expensive one, but bites are bites you should think in the case of a copy.

WRK to WAV plus Delta 66

Hi..I'm a volunteer pianist for nursing homes/hospices, etc., and want to record cds which the elderly can listen to when I'm not there. I recently bought a grand piano and want to record it, plus layering a Yamaha keyboard on top. In this regard I have necessary mikes, stands, pre amps, and have installed a Delta 66 Digital Audio board which the mixer plugs into and I'm running Cakewalk V. 6.
Two questions if I might: First when I play back my piano recording it doesn't always go all the way through. Sometimes it stops for a couple of bars or so and then picks up again. Can anyone give me a CLUE as to how to prevent this? Cpu speed problem??? Second, I have a CD-Burner in my computer. How do I go about converting my Cakewalk .wrk file to a .wav file to transfer onto the cd and be able to play back? Sorry to bother you, but if one of you "pros" would get back to me, I'd be very grateful. Best regards..

MULTITRACKING

What's the best tool for multitracking a band ?

Re: MULTITRACKING

Cubase VST, Logic Audio, SEK'D Samplitude, and an 8 in/8 out Analog/Digital Converter box.

Time for research. Get an in/out with ADAT inputs, or else you will have to move the drum kits to your neck of the woods. With ADAT inputs, you can record drums to ADAT ( at the drummer's house) and then port it into the computer later.
Guitar/Singing can be done easily within range of the computer.

Conversions

Does anyone know if there is a an shareware program that can convert MP-3's into wav-format files? I know Real-Player's Jukebox does, but I'm not about to pay their price just to try it out. Any help you have would be most appreciated.

Re: Conversions

The Apex 600MA will play CD ROMS with MP3's. Hence, no need to convert!!!

why don't you give PCDJ a look at, it does a few things in regards to conversions. Also NTI2000 will also do conversions, when you have the song in the selected copy field you can right click on it and select to convert it.

Real Audio ---> Wav can be done using the StreamBox Ripper. It's at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Streambox_Ripper/.

Problems with Audio recordings

Is a slow Processor the cause of stilted
recordings and playback & even bit missing ?

Thanks

Re: Problems with Audio recordings

: I think that it has more to do with the read and write capacity of the harddisk. A hard disk that turns, reads & writes fast is important for audio. Wide SCSI disks (also ultra wide-for video) are recommended. They can write in bigger blocks, and therefore become faster accessible by your computer. By augmenting the amount of RAM, you will also speed up the power of your computer.
What processor do you call slow? The processor is the machine that does fast calculations. For audio reproduction you don't need that. You have to be able to record and reproduce sound when you think it. When you want to use any effects to that audio (like resampling-delays, compression), than the processor speed becomes more important, and also the speed of the buss who is working with the rest of the motherboard.
To reply, I think the answer is with your harddisk.
Hope this answer gives info on what you have asked .
Good luck,
Hano

Right, here's the deal. If you want to record the output from your MP3 DJing program to wav and you don't have one that has built in recording, forget about utilities like Total Recorder and Virtual Cable. Total Recorder seems to have problems recording the output of other programs unless you can set the output sound device to Wave Mapper or Automatic. Most MP3 mixing programs won't let you do that. If your program does let you set the main output to either Wave Mapper or Automatic, then you can probably use Total Recorder. Virtual Cable has enough of a delay between the input and output devices that in most programs I noticed a slower response time when pressing play. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist. The quality of MP3 has enough problems that I don't like the idea of using an analogue connection between two sound cards either. So after a lot of frustration, I finally figured it out. Here's what you have to do. Step 1: First you need at least one duplex sound card. Not much of a problem most of them are these days. Set your programs main output to a duplex sound card and the headphones to a second one if you have one. Step 2: Go into Control Panel under the Start Menu under settings. Open Multimedia. In the Audio Tab check to see if the Sound Card you set as the main output in your DJ program is the selected Playback device. Step 3: Click on the Playback button. If in step 2 the card you set as your main output in your program was the selected Playback device, make sure that Wave is selected and that the volume is set to something reasonable. It should say Wave or Wave/DirectSound or something like that. If you don't see it or if in step 2 the card you selected as your main output in your program wasn't the selected Playback device, click on the Options Menu, click on Properties, select the Mixer Device for the sound card you set as the main output for your program and make sure Adjust volume for Playback is selected. In the list select Wave or Wave/DirectSound and click OK. Now you should see it. Make sure it's selected and set the volume. Then close the Play Control window. Step 4: In the Audio Tab check to see if the Sound Card you set as the main output in your DJ program is the selected Recording device. Step 5: Click on the Recording button. If in step 4 the card you set as your main output in your program was the selected Recording device, make sure that Wave is selected and that the volume is set to something reasonable. If you don't see it or if in step 4 the card you selected as your main output in your program wasn't the selected Recording device, click on the Options Menu, click on Properties, select the Mixer Device for the sound card you set as the main output for your program and make sure Adjust volume for Recording is selected. In the list select Wave. Warning! If you don't have a duplex sound card you may not see it listed. Click OK. Now you should see it. Make sure it's selected and set the volume. Then close the Record Control window. Click OK to close Multimedia Properties and then close Control Panel. Step 6: Run your DJ program and a recording program. In your recording programs options set the recording device to the same one as the main output for your DJ program. If your recording program doesn't allow you to set the sound devices internally )most of them do), you'll have to set the sound card you selected in your DJ program as your Recording Preferred device in Multimedia. Start recording and what you mix should be recorded. Some mixing programs will take over your sound card. In this case you'll either have to wait until you close your DJ program to playback what you've recorded or you'll have to set your recording programs output to another device internally or in Multimedia.

uploading a real audio to web page

I already have .ra files on my web pages. I use Geocities. As of the last two days (and I have sufficient memory still available--14 M) but when I try it upload, it goes to 100% and THEN NOTHING EVER HAPPENS. I've waited as long as 5 min. thinking Geo is overloaded, but I want to hear from someone else who uses Geocities/Yahoo for their music web site. And if I quit Geo, how can I safely move it off of their site to a new one? Need some advice from other sequencers please!

Generating midi files in C++

I am researching a virtual music composer using genetic algorithms techniques and need to generate midi files and play them on external instruments. Can anyone tell me how do I generate a midi file from a C++ program i.e. without using a sequencer? I have the midi file format but I don't know how to generate that format. Any help is welcome.

Re: Playing midi files with c++

: I am researching a player which can play a midi file/wave file/ mp3 format from a database which is created by recording from a music CD. Any help regarding the algorithm or file format processing is urgently welcome.
THANKS to anyone who can help.

MIDI to WAVE conversion

Can u suggest an algorithm for converting fro a midi to wave file ?

Re: MIDI to WAVE conversion

There is no algorhythm; .wav files contain sound, MIDI files are instructions to play sounds in an instrument set.

The only way to convert them is to record the MIDI to .wav. There are a lot of ways of doing this. Combined MIDI/Audio sequencers like Cakewalk (high end) or n-Track or Power Tracks(affordable) do it.

Another approach is Total Recorder which will record anything your soundcard is playing.

But I get the best results with Audio Compositor (audiocompositor@att.net). you have to download a soundfont using sfArk, but once you have the installation and set up down, it works great. Plus the sound samples definitely improve the quality of what you get. Recording the MIDI with a MIDI/audio sequencer gives you .wav recordings of the slightly fakey, tinny sound of MIDI instruments, but once you get Audio Compositor set up, the results sound really nice.
