What you need is called a CD Ripper

The thing is...that I'm newbie in this recording, editor, music software stuff.....I play the violin, and I would like to do my own recordings with the computer, and composing work...so, I don't know which software is the best...which one's i have to buy? thanks

cubase and cakewalk are obviously the best, but they aren't cheap, and I' dont think they really fit a beginner.

I'd reccomend fasoft n-track, instead.

Assuming you're a complete beginner, I'd say you also need a good soundcard (sounblaster LIVE reccomended) and some sort of microphone (to record violin or anything else). a midi keyboard is almost essential if you plan to compose.

If you want to record Violin into your computer you'll have to make sure you have a good sound card for starters.
Take a look at <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cubase5_win95/">Cubase VST 5 </a> and <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cakewalk_HomeStudio/">Cakewalk Home Studio 9</a>

help on GAMUT software

could someone help me why my Gamut software works only on some computers and on some, it receives an error message when I install it..
the error I get during installation is: Chips error...GAMUT OEM version only can be installed in correct motherbord!

what do you mean exactly? writing CD or mastering audio before burning to CD?

In the first case, Nero, Steinberg Get.it.on.cd or any adaptec product will do.

Mastering reqires a good amount of tools (EQ, compression..) and ESPECIALLY great ears and experience. Anyway there's a programm called T-Racks which is specifically written for this.
The usual route involves using a sound editor, maybe with external plugins (I think Steinberg sells an fx bundle called 'Mastering edition").

Can somone explain why I can't play highspeed radio streams on my 56k connection. Even if they come in broken up, isn't there a way to buffer them before they play? The few stations I find playing my style of music are all broadcasting for dsl and cable listeners.

following will work only for linux junta

1. play the rm file using realplayer
2. record the samples from /dev/dsp
I used following in my machine

$ sox -t ossdsp -r 44100 -c 2 /dev/dsp Output.wav
checkout sox man page for options ,details .

3 .then convert that wav to mp3 (lame ,bladEnc ..)

if you want to convert lots of rm to mp3
get a Text mode Realplayer ( search in google )

write a suitable shell script . Everything will
be done in minimum pain

The two free encoders I'm using are the Blade encoder and the Lame encoder. I'm very satisfied with the last one in particular cause it's a bit faster and gives slightly better quality mp3's at a bitrate of 128kbs/s or higher. For more info and downloads look over here:

Wave to MP3

I Need to convert a .Wav file to MP3 format, but the Wave is only 16kHz and I can't find one that will do it, can anyone help me?

If you got a WAV editor like Soundforge or Cool Edit you could resample the WAV file to get a 44.1 khz WAV file that any MP3 encoder should be able to handle. If you haven't got one try the free Lame or the Blade encoder. Personally I think the Lame is the better one.
