Re: How do I copy CD music to midi or WAV

: I have music on CD that I'd like to sample onto my webpage. How do I do that?

Start by downloading a CD Ripper, which will take the music
off your CD to WAV format, then you could convert it to MP3 format with an MP3 encoder like
RightClick-MP3. Converting WAV to MIDI is more complex, but there is software available.

PLEASE help - Soundblaster Live! MP3+ Line-In problem!

First of all, please note that I'm a beginner.

I'm using an ASR-10 Sampling Keyboard (Ensoniq)
and I want to get the songs I recorded on that
into my computer. When I connect the "main out" of
the keyboard into the "line-in" of the soundcard,
I hear no sound playing. If I plug my PC speakers
directly into the "main out" of the keyboard, I
can hear sounds playing, so I know that the "main
out" of the keyboard is not the problem. Also,
everything else on my soundcard seems to work
fine. For example I can plug a mic into the "mic
in" and I can hear my voice through the speakers.
I can also record it. I can play CDs and MP3s no
problem.

In case you're wondering, yes, I have made sure
that the "line-in" volume is up and that it's not
muted. I have verified this on both the surround
mixer and the windows volume control. Also, I have
made sure that no Environmental effects are turned
on. And I have nothing else playing when I'm
trying to record, so nothing is "blocking" the
sound from the keyboard.

What is the "line-in" for anyway? Shouldn't I be
able to hook up the "main out" of my keyboard and
hear sound through the speakers? My electric
guitar doesn't work with the "line-in" either,
although I don't really care about that, I'm more
concerned with the keyboard. I don't know much
about audio signals, but all I can say is that I
can plug speakers directly into the "main out" of
my keyboard and hear sound playing. Does that tell
you what kind of signal is coming from the "main
out"? What kind of signals are needed for the
"line in"? I can tell you now that the "main out"
is the only type of "out" I currently have
available on my keyboard.

Oh yeah, one other thing. I bought a tuner card to
watch tv on my pc and I had to connect the
tuner card to the "line-in" of the soundcard - it
worked fine. Why won't it work with my keyboard?
I really hope someone out there can help me - the whole reason
I bought a more expensive card like the MP3+
instead of one of the cheaper models was
specifically so I could record music from my
keyboard with the best quality.

Thank you very much for your time.
Michael

Re: PLEASE help - Soundblaster Live! MP3+ Line-In problem!

Launch the mixer in your dropdown menu. Go to recording settings by the upper left icon or double clicking on the gray space. Where the mute buttons were there are now record select buttons. Click on the one for line out (mouseover the icons to find out what they are) Set the slider to 50% and try it to get the level set.

music in web

Which is the best music format to put in the web ?

Re: music in web

Well, you have basically three or four options:

RealAudio: It streams, but software to generate it is expensive.

MP3: Sound quality is not good. But it is standard and will stream. This is what we use at our site.

VQF: Good quality, smaller than MP3, but not a standard yet. It will likely be like Beta vs VHS, where VHS won because it was a standard and Beta was actually better.

Windows Streaming Media: Sound quality is as bad as MP3, actually worse. Don't bother unless its a voice recording.

converting PC cubase songs to MAC

Hi,

Does anyone of you have experience converting Cubase VST songs from PC to MAC? I'm especially interested in the audio part of the story. Will the Mac also use wavs? Will all the edits I made in VST for PC also be available on the MAC, or will I have to convert all the audio to aiff en then import in VST MAC?

Forget it Boys and Girls, it will only work for Monte.

Later Monte. More and more people have waved by by to their money as they put it in the post and know full well that people like you are the ones making the money.

For the readers tempted by this offer, my whole family did this once and got nothing. All my friends did it at work years later and despite what I warned them, they quietly got nothing too. There is a guy in germany somewhere living in a castle from the money that he made from the excitement of us getting rich. It's a con that ONLY works for people in a certain part of the list. Monte probably has all these names tied up by now, put your money in a piggy bank or give it to someone who really needs it. Enough is enough monte, this is a music forum, not a place for conmen.

Software for transcribing music

I am a music researcher and want to know wether there is any software that can help to transcribe music from audio tape.

Hmmmm

If you mean, plug the tape output into the computers input and run software that prints out the music then no. There are programs that attempt to gain Midi note information from Audio but they are unreliable due to the fact that the computer is not clever enough to work out what instrument is playing what, or even that there are different instruments playing. It just hears a moving bandwidth of noise whereas humans can decifer what instrument is what from the Wave. If you have an individual instrument playing slowly then the programs might have a chance of giving you a few right notes but don't bank on it.

looking for dwnldbl software for burning karaoke c.d.'s

As an avid karaoke singer, it get's expensive buying karaoke c.d.'s at $20-$30 a pop. Has anyone got a good suggestion for a not so techno oriented person. I've got a c.d. burner built-in to my gateway. Thanks!

Looking for info, to make techno on imac??

can anyone give me suggestions on software for music creation on imac dvd.????

Lots about.

You could have a fiddle with things like Re-birth (although it's all been done with that program a million times) there are plenty other free standing programs like Stella9000 and Vibra, Tokyo. Also programs like reaktor (but you have to be a nuclear scientist to get the best out of that one!) or dynamo. There is an upcoming program called reason I think from Propellerheads (re-birth) I think that everyone is very excited about. Check the Bitheadz site for some nice mac and pc programs to get you started. Also, look on this sites file section in softsynths for a phew more ideas and demos.

Getting new DAW any reccomendations?

I have used Vegas Pro and pretty much all of sonic foundry's products have delved a little into minnetonka's mx native trax, cakewalk, and others. i am looking for the best recording software out there for PC. unlimited tracks, plug ins, eq, compression, ease of use all necessary. under a $1000 would be nice. ive considered Digidesigns pro tools small $999 version and others. if you have something you like or if you have any suggestions please let me know thanks.

Re: Getting new DAW any reccomendations?

I personaly have used everything from cubase to mx trax to pro tools. and namy more. But for ease of use-price-functionality and mainly STABILITY i have settled with Cool Edit Pro 1.2.There isnt another program thats as stable as this one.its got 64 stereo tracks and its SUPER STABLE-NEVER CRASHES.It also has directX support and ASIO driver support which makes it even better , AND it has MP3 as an add on , which I got too.Cool Edit is the way , the rest pale infront of it.

go to start menu-settings-control panel-system-device manager. then remove your sound card and restart windows. when windows restarts it will detect new hardware and ask that you insert your soundbalster drivers cd. If this doesn't work go to start menu-settings-control panel-add remove programs-windows set-up and remove the multi-media component and re-install it. make sure you have your windows cd and soundblaster cd on hand. I have had the same problem after trying some new audio programs. Total recorder was one of them but I don't think that caused the problem. I think it was slow speed cd transcriber or acoustica. the only way to find out for sure is trial and error. good luck.

editing mp3

i'm having trouble when i convert music from wav to cd some songs are louder than others,i'm running winamp and want all the songs to sound the same as far as volume and bass

Re: editing mp3

Hey there,

You need to normalize your files. I believe Cool Edit 2000 can batch normalize.

Cheers

Re: editing mp3

Yeah, Cool Edit can raise the volume, but if the songs too loud and you want to lower it, all you have is the db cut function. That just chops the tops off. I haven't founnd a way to reduce signal on songs yet. Maybe someone can enlighten me?
