Re: mp3 to wav for a newbee

: I have d/l the latest version of Winamp and I am VERY new to the program. Can anyone tell me how to convert an MP3 to a wav file using WinAmp. I have read a few of the boards postings but it's not helping.

Recording audio in a Cakewalk 8.0 MIDI sequence

I record MIDI tracks in Cakewalk 8.0. Whenever I
want to add audio tracks I record them in Sound Forge,
then import the wave files into Cakewalk. I take this
approach because whenever I try to record audio tracks
in the sequence along with the MIDI tracks the sequence
slows down and drags. I tried speeding it up, but it
starts to do weird stuff like; only recording the first
ten seconds of audio. When the ten seconds are played
back you can hear the other tracks, even when they are
muted. Sometimes they come out in reverse. Has
anyone else had this problem or does anyone know what
the problem is and how to fix it.

SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD PROBLEM

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me as i'm not sure if this is a audio problem.Every time i try to download software from this site or others like it I always get this sign that comes up on the screen that stops me downloading. Its the quicktime player sign and it appears on the screen broken , like it a broken link or something like that!! I dont know what to do and any help would be very helpful!!
Thanks
Jody

Hmmmm

What are you trying to download? It sounds like your browser is assuming that the file (link) you have selected is actually a quicktime movie when it isn't. The broken symbol is telling you the link is broken or the quicktime movie it is expecting isn't there. Try right clicking on the link or Holding down the mouse button on the link if using a Macintosh and then select 'Save Link' that should work.

Does anyone uses a computer to play music?*** please HELP

I like to play guitar. and I would like to buy a computer to help me with MIDI and not.
What kind of computer should I buy?
How important is the Sound card?
What is the minimum configuration to avoid possible problems during playing/recording?
How about the size of Hard Disk?
Thank you very much
MU

Re: Does anyone uses a computer to play music?*** please HELP

Well, it all depends on what you're planning to do. What I run on is a 400MHz AMD K6-3 with 128MB RAM, 14.4 GB hard drive, and the SBLive.

Software: I use cakewalk Pro audio 8, Digital Orchestrator, Rebirth, Acid Pro, and more. The system pisses me off from time to time because Windoze is such a crappy operating system. But there's little choice. If you only knew how much you grow to hate Windoze when doing audio rewcording. I push it to the max when playing 32 tracks of digital audio in CW. This system would be great for most applications.
I made an entire album on this machine. Visit our site to hear it.

How to distinguish between amplitude and intensity in a melodic

Most diagnostic techniques of tone talk about amplitude, but leave out the question of `intensity' in analysis. Is there any diagnostic software which identfies `intensity' as distinct from `amplitude' (loudness)?

Auto Tablature Creation

I'm tired of transcribing songs into tab manually .
Is it possible to plug an acoustic (thru a pickup) or an electric into a computer and get software to write the tabs as u play ? is this a fantasy ?

Moving from Tascam to iMac; Need Advice Please

I have long used a Tascam 4 track to record vocals, acoustic/electric guitar. Wanting to break the limitations of analogue recording, I have now got an iMac 400/128/10. I have read a lot of information re software mixers, recorders, synths etc. and played with demos. What I really don't understand is - isn't there some sort of interface between my condenser microphone (Shure 16A) / guitar / Alesis Midiverb 3 / Tascam and my Macintosh other than a 3.5mm mic socket?? I have two firewire ports - isn't there audio hardware (eg. a pre-amp/compressor) that would access these ports?
I think I can appreciate what audio software does, perhaps I'm still hopelessly naive and stuck in analogue/tapeland but what is the deal with getting sound INTO the Mac in the first place?
Thanks to anyone with enough kindness/patience to help.

there are a few options if you go the USB route. you may happen upon the Griffin Technology USB audio adapter, they offer it for a very sweet price... but don't go for it because the thing doesn't exist, they keep delaying production and have been doing so for over a year. After i figured out that they were never going to finish it i went to a page (i forget what it was though) but it introduced me to the Roland UA-30. It has digital input, line level input, mic/guitar input, and does something with optical and coaxial which i don't know about. it has an input fader that allows you to adjust your monitor mix and adjust the gain on the mic or whatever you are using. There are two problems with this device. first, it is a bit expensive (about 240 depending on where you look). and the other problem is it will only let you record from 1 source at a time. one way to get around that is if you use a mixer (i.e. your tascam) you can pan one input hard right and another hard left, then run the line out to the line in on the UA-30. After you record if your program lets you "split stereo tracks" or something like that, then you will have two track input. also, there is a slightly cheaper verson of this device but i don't know what it was called. the cheapest one of the roland that i have found was on a page called midistore.com i believe. you can just search for USB audio inputs. i have gotten alot of use out of mine and the quality is quite good. it can be at 44.1 or 48 khz. its pretty nice. if you have any questions just email me.

Audio inputs

Hi,

Most people live with the minijack input/outputs although they wouldn't like to admit it. There are USB audio devices giving you RCA input/outputs but I don't know much about them as they are new. I heard that there will be a Firewire audio interface but know less about that at the moment. Your Tascam had 1/4inch jacks for input where as the iMac uses the smaller and less capable minijack making it harder to use standard cabling.

The best thing to do would be to connect a mixing desk to the iMac that can also power the Condensor Microphone. If you are on a budget and still have the tascam then use that. Just get the correct audio link (probably a stereo RCA to stereo Minijack) but you will still need to address the phantom power issue for the Mic. Can't give you any links for the USB interface though, sorry. Check at the local music shop that knows about computer music...

Cheers

RECORDING AUDIO TAPES TO MY COMPUTER

Hi,

I'm in a band who recorded songs onto tape. I want to burn them onto cd's.

What software should I use? and how should I go about recording the songs from my tape to my computer?
please help, thank you...

Re: RECORDING AUDIO TAPES TO MY COMPUTER

Hello there,

First of all, I'd recommend a good audio editor like Cool Edit 2000. You may need to use an editor that has an 'audio cleaning' function to fix up any artifacts that are on the tape.

http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/AUDIO_EDITORS/

Or you might find the audio restoration section useful.

To go from tape to PC, you'll have to connect the tape player into the IN port of your soundcard. If you have trouble, just keep the tape on play as you try plugging in. You'll eventually get the sound coming out of your PC speakers. Then it's a case of hitting record on the audio editor and recording the audio.

Cheers
Geoff

program change messages in list editor

I am trying to put a message in the list editor of cubase to change the bank and program number used by by an MC-505. The MC-505 manual gives an example which is 'CC#0=81, CC#32=1, PG#=16', but I dont know how to send this information from cubase to the 505; I think it should be a SysEx message, but what do I actually type? Hope somebody can help, thanks Craig

Re: program change messages in list editor

The way I do something like this is set up a MIDI track corresponding to the poirt and channel; the 505 or anything else is working on, then change the patch parameter on that track. It's pretty simple, no typing or anything.

C.D. to sheet music. Which software to use please?

Can someone Help Please ?.
Which software programmes(Shareware)would give me the printout of music when I play my favourite orchestral tune on the CD on my computer please.?

Re: C.D. to sheet music. Which software to use please?

I found a piece of shareware software a few years ago that converted CD's directly to sheet music. But my PC crashed about a year later and I lost it. It came from a company in Italy and the name in Italian was something like "Turtle Software"?

: Can someone Help Please ?.

If only CD to Sheet Music was that simple. If you
had the time and patience, the process would have to
be -

1. Rip the track(s) from your CD to WAV format
2. Convert the WAV file to MIDI
3. Convert the MIDI file to Sheet Music

The first step is easy. WAV to MIDI generally only works
with single instrument performances, eg. piano solo.
If you can create a MIDI file that sounds close to
the original piece, then you can create the sheet
music using software like SmartScore.

Good luck if you are willing to try.

That is not possible!
You can try autoscore or wav2midi but these software only works (and not that good) with single instruments.Pholifony is impossible at leat for now!
