Re: multitrack recording with cool edit pro

Basically what you need is another sound card. One for recording and one for playback.

SOUND FORGE 4.5 (ACAPELLA)

I know it is not really possible to create acapella(remove vocals)with excellent quality, but I know you can get something close using sound forge 4.5
I just don't know how to get there. Can anybody tell me how to do it.

How can I compose music on PC without a MIDI keyboard

Hi!
I am a beginner and I would like to know how can I compose/play simple melodies on a PC without using a MIDI keyboard. I would appreciate it if somebody would tell me if they know of any software program that allows me to do that.

Re: How can I compose music on PC without a MIDI keyboard

Steinbergs Cubase or Cubasis - you can 'draw' in the notes with the pencil tool so no keyboard is required.

Re: How can I compose music on PC without a MIDI keyboard

get sonic foundry acid 2.0 professional. It was designed to use loops but you can import any wav file, onto it's own track and compose music. you can use drums, fx, synths, anything. its incredibly versatile and far better than cubase if you dont own a keyboard. I use it myself and am currently negotiating a record deal! It is THE PERFECT TOOL for the computer musician. you can even write midi on cubase, export as wave and use in acid.

Re: How can I compose music on PC without a MIDI keyboard

Hi Dave,

If you would still like to compose music using MIDI, but don't have a keyboard, you can also using a music notation program (such as Finale from Coda: www.codamusic.com) to input your music by hand as notation. The computer will then play your music back just as you entered it.

Best,
Scott

audio input ->midi sequence

I recieved an email from this site some time ago featuring a sequencer which could analyse an audio input stream (eg, singing into a mic) and create midi sequence data from the notes detected. I am trying to find out what that program was called.

cheers :-)

Can I vary Cubase speed like a reel to reel?

Is there a way to vary the speed, much like varying the speed of a reel to reel, with Cubase4.1 on a Mac? I don't want to keep durations or pitches, just want to record vocals at a lower pitch then bring everything back up to speed and pitch.

thank you all :-P

Time stretch...

I'm not desperately familiar with Cubase but the chances are that it has 'time stretch'. Find it and play around with it. It will adjust the speed of the music without adjusting the pitch. Spark for the Mac has a real time TS shuttle control that is excellent for this sort of thing.

Good luck

crc prob

i formated my computer one week ago, ihave downloaded a program ''d-lusion drumstation'' of whitch i had used prior to the format, but when i try to initialize the program i recieve a ''could not initialize installation [crc]'' message. can you please offer any advice. with thanks Leo.

Error correction

From what I understand, CRC is basically a way of checking errors maybe on download. I would personally assume that you have a corrupt file that may have happened in transit. Try downloading it again, it might sort it out.

Mixers with Effects

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone is aware of a software mixer that will utilize my sound cards effects via plug-ins. Would just like to jam along with Midi/MP3 files and throw in some reverb, delay etc.

My pinnacle sound card comes with a great mixer but no option for effects.

Is anyone aware of a mixer with these capabilities, or does anyone have any good options?

Thanks,

Ron

Convert mp3 to split wav

I need to convert mp3 to split .wav - Is there any software that can do this on the Win'98 platform. Thanks in advance.

Re: Convert mp3 to split wav

Do you mean to say that you want to go from MP3 to WAV and then split the WAV?

The tool I'd use for this is Cool Edit 2000.

Cheers
Geoff

Problem with SB MP3+ Live! Line-In

Well, the reason I bought a Live! MP3+ was
specifically to create my own music and I can't
seem to do that. I can't get the "line-in" on the
soundcard to work properly. I'm supposed to be
able to hook up a keyboard or electric guitar, but
neither of these things works.

I'm using an ASR-10 Sampling Keyboard (Ensoniq)
and I want to get the songs I recorded on that
into my computer. When I connect the "main out" of
the keyboard into the "line-in" of the soundcard,
I hear no sound playing. If I plug my PC speakers
directly into the "main out" of the keyboard, I
can hear sounds playing, so I know that the "main
out" of the keyboard is not the problem. Also,
everything else on my soundcard seems to work
fine. For example I can plug a mic into the "mic
in" and I can hear my voice through the speakers.
I can also record it. I can play CDs and MP3s no
problem.

In case you're wondering, yes, I have made sure
that the "line-in" volume is up and that it's not
muted. I have verified this on both the surround
mixer and the windows volume control. Also, I have
made sure that no Environmental effects are turned
on. And I have nothing else playing when I'm
trying to record, so nothing is "blocking" the
sound from the keyboard.

What is the "line-in" for anyway? Shouldn't I be
able to hook up the "main out" of my keyboard and
hear sound through the speakers? My electric
guitar doesn't work with the "line-in" either,
although I don't really care about that, I'm more
concerned with the keyboard. I don't know much
about audio signals, but all I can say is that I
can plug speakers directly into the "main out" of
my keyboard and hear sound playing. Does that tell
you what kind of signal is coming from the "main
out"? What kind of signals are needed for the
"line in"? I can tell you now that the "main out"
is the only type of "out" I currently have
available on my keyboard.

Oh yeah, one other thing. I bought a tuner card to
watch tv on my pc and I had to connect the
tuner card to the "line-in" of the soundcard - it
worked fine. Why won't it work with my keyboard?
I really hope someone out there can help me - the whole reason
I bought a more expensive card like the MP3+
instead of one of the cheaper models was
specifically so I could record music from my
keyboard with the best quality.

Thank you very much for your time.
Michael

Re: Problem with SB MP3+ Live! Line-In

I have the same problem. I've found that I can record guitar into the mic port of the SB Live! card, but not into the Line In port. Well, that's not exactly true. I *can* record into the line in, but only if the guitar volume and the record volume are turned up as high as possible. And only then do I get a very faint signal that can't be heard through the speakers but can be picked up by wave recording software.

Power Trax Audio will delete Channel 5?

A Pipe Organ MIDI web page said to delete Channel 5 for several of their MIDI files. Does anyone know if one can use the $35.00 Power Track Audio instead of the $99.00 Cakewalk to do this ?

MP3 to an MPEG Layer 3 compressed .wav file

1. AN MP3 is MPeg 1 Layer 3.
2. A wav file can not be layer 3, as they are uncompressed. It can be compressed to MP2 (mpeg 1 layer 2) or mp3 (mpeg1 layer 3) or many other formats.
3. PCM is, in essence a wav file.

perhaps you are "confoozed"? I convert MP3 files to PCM .wav files to MPEG Layer-3 compressed wav files on a daily basis because I run a wav list. There's a little program out there called "mpeg.exe" that makes it possible to listen to MPEG Layer-3 (MPEG3). Perhaps you don't have that and you've never dealt wit it explains why you have no idea what i'm talking about? I've used programs such as Total Recorder and Cdex to convert from MP3 to PCM .wav format but I want to convert from MP3 to MPEG Layer-3 compressed .wav format instead of having to open the PCM .wav in sound recorder after converting and then re-converting. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then ok, let someone else help me if they do. But I do know what I am talking about because I have been dealing with MPEG Layer-3 compressed .wav files for the past year plus.

Re: MP3 to an MPEG Layer 3 compressed .wav file

I'm sort of in the dark about what the discussion is about but please info me or send a link. Correct me if I'm wrong but you are coverting mp3 files into .wav that are uncompressed. If that is true please email witha little info or links.,......

Re: MP3 to an MPEG Layer 3 compressed .wav file
