NOTATIONSOFTWARE THAT READS WAVE-FILES????????????

is there notationsoftware (or something else) outthere that can read the playback of wavefiles???????? if it can transform it in midi, the better, tanx

Re: NOTATIONSOFTWARE THAT READS WAVE-FILES????????????

: is there notationsoftware (or something else) outthere that can read the playback of wavefiles???????? if it can transform it in midi, the better, tanx

The answer is yes and no.

There is software which can reliably convert a wav
file which contains only one note at a time into midi.

Some programs can also work out all the notes of a
piece of music even when more than one note is played
at a time provided that there is only one instrument
playing - like a piano.

There are also programs which do reasonably well at
reading the chord progressions of a recording regardless
of the number of notes or instruments playing at the
same time as each other.

There is however no software yet that does a
reasonable job of working out all the notes and
knowing which instruments played them (when
multiple instruments are playing) - we don't even
know how it is that the human brain does this yet.

Here are a couple of easy to follow tutorials that
will help you understand this issue:

" Please tell me! "

Can anyone tell me what is the best notation music software to get?
A composition student Asked

Re: " Please tell me! "

The most popular programs are cakewalk, logic, and cubase. If you're just doing notation and basic sequencing, all of these programs have really affordable simplified versions. Go to software downloads, download the demo's, and explore...also there are quite a few freeware programs, although I've never used any of them.
If I had to recommend a full blown package...it would be Cakewalk ProAudio9 for pc's (what I use) and Cubase for macs.

what tha hell do i need

I'm looking for the hardware and software to be able to compose music with all instruments using only a bass guitar. I know this can be done, I have read about it somewhere. Please help me !!!

Re: what tha hell do i need

Me, too! How weird is that?? I'm trying to do trip hop/hip hop trance music and put my basslines/vox with it. I've just begun to use Mod Tracker to loop beats and other samples. But I don't know how to do anything else. HELP!
What do I need:
sound card for digital audio interface (how else could I get my bass lines in there)?
Sequencer with recording capabilities (CUBASE)?
Drum Machine (for my own beats)?
Sampler (would that be better than using windows wave recorder/editor)?
Keyboard or Midi controller (what does this do)?
anything else??

Distortion Pedals

Does anyone out there know of a pedal that can be used like the VCF section of a synth, less the voltage control. Also, does anyone know ANYTHING about the PCF?

Neptune303

Off the wall...

You probably think i'm going to answer your question but I don't think I know the answer, hehe. I do remember having an old synth I borrowed about 15 years ago that I used to use the filter section on my guitar by running the guitar through the synth. I know what your like and you have probably been doing that for ages!

The reason I really replied to your mail is because I was re-reading an old Sound on Sound magazine and noticed an article about the Digitech 'Talker' pedal which was supposed to emulate the guitar sound used by Steely Dan and Peter Frampton's Voice box thing. Although this is not related to the question necessarily, I thought you might be interested!

optimizing wavs

does anyone know of a simple freeware program that compresses wav files well?

Re: optimizing wavs

GoldWave is a free wave editor, and you could resample to say 22k or 11k. If you are talking mp3, then look at the SMM, there's a lot of stuff.
For archive purposes, I HIGHLY recommend VQF because of higer quality and smaller size than mp3. Check it out at www.vqf.com.

SYnc Rebirth to analogue

Hi -

I'm trying to sync Rebirth to a live analogue source, ...unsuccesful so far...

Any idea if it's feasible ?

I tried and tweaked sound2midi and audioTomidi : the midi light shows on Rebirth but no sync.

I'm not to familiar with these 2 progs but I think the problem is that they don't generate midi clock signals.

If anybody has any suggestion ! Thanx

Powerbook Home Studio?

Hi. I'm probably going to get a laptop through my dayjob in the next month or so, and I'm debating getting a 400MHz G3 Powerbook - is there any way to set up a decent home studio on one of these? By "decent" I mean MIDI in/out, low latency sample triggering and ideally multitrack recording and overdubs from live instruments. I'm fairly up on software and soundcards and all that...my question is: would it be worth getting an external chassis and PCI-to-PCMCIA adapter for something like a Gadget Labs WavePro, or would I be better off buying a cheap Wintel notebook for work and saving up for a "real" stationary PowerMac-based studio setup? I'd prefer to do the Powerbook thing, and I know groups like Underworld use PBs when they play live, but I don't know how feasible it is to hook up a PCI card through a PCMCIA adapter, or even if there's any other way to get MIDI and quarter-inch phone plugs in and out of a notebook. Any feedback on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks much,
Dave

Re: Powerbook Home Studio?

The powerbook is a lovely 'puter, how could you think of owning a wintel laptop AND a desktop macintosh. The powerbook will suit your needs as it can run all the excellent Midi USB interfaces and I think there is now a USB audio interface but I haven't seen it yet so check it out for yourself.

The powerbook will run any Macintosh software very well due to it's speed. This means you could use proper programs for music like Logic and Cubase on the road. That, with it's video capabilities, how can you say no.

Steve...

Re: Powerbook Home Studio?

: The powerbook is a lovely 'puter, how could you think of owning a wintel laptop AND a desktop

Agreed here, except on one point: for harddisk
recording you need a very fast and very large
harddisk, and on most laptops (including apple
laptops) harddisk speed falls behind compared to
"stationary" computers, because of energy
saving stuff and modified controller hardware.
For midi your powerbook will do perfectly though.

HELP : audiowerk8 and DSP trouble!!

hi all,

has anybody some experience of using the audiowerk8 and yamaha´s DSP factory DS2416
simultaneously in one computer setup? I have terrible static background noises on both
audiocards. So I tested each card on its own.

dsp factory only : high level static background noise, in general hardly acceptable performance with LAW,
wavelab, rebirth or other audio software.

audiowerk8 only : high level static background noise, no matter if a sound is played or not.

I have tried/ checked the following:
- voodoo3 hardware accelleration set to minimum,
- no shared irqs or memory blocks
- latency/ buffer setting nearly doesn´t affect statics.

I have installed the latest hardware drivers for voodoo3, audiowerk 8 and the DSP card.

My system:

AMD K6-3 450 mhz
64mb ram
scsi 2940 uw ctrler
ibm scsi hd
voodoo3 agp
audiowerk8 and/ or dsp factory
win98
logic audio platinum

Would appreciate any help or ideas.

thanx

what software can i download to eccoh my voice???

i would like to know what software i can download to allow my voice to eccoh when i talk into the mic....could someone tell me pleae...?

There is loads of it.

Generally, people are using Multitrack programs like Cubase VST and Logic audio for their audio needs as they not only give you some truly amazing Audio/Midi multitracking options but they also have a comprehensive supply of built in effects to process the audio files with. Most of these effects come in the form of 'Pluggins' that generally require a host program like the aford mentioned. If you have one of these or similar, it may be your best route, otherwise, i'm sure you will find what you are looking for in the file section on this board, link at the end of this message and then choose your platform.

converting audio media to mp3's

i need to get a program (preferably freeware or shareware) to convert audio media files into mp3's to burn cds with....

Hmmm...

You can get apps to convert various Wave data to MP3's but I doubt you will want to do that to put onto a CD (unless in the data sense for storage and playback though your computer). CD burners, to my knowledge, wont burn an MP3 as a playable format as it requires software to uncompress it in real time that normal CD players don't have.

This board has a LaRgE file area which you should have a look at, click the link at the bottom of the page and choose you platform.

MANIPULATING AND REMIXING AUDIO WITH AN IMAC!

Hi, i have an iMac and a Freecom USB CDWriter. I am looking for software that allows me to import a pre-mixed CD, delete or add sequences (i am an aerobics instructor so i need 32-count sequences) and burn the new mix onto a CD again.
Is ProTools a good choice? Or is there something else available that is iMac supported???
Thanks for your reaction!!!

Pro-Tools

Jump 2,3,4 Lift 2,3,4 tuck ,2,3,4 come on ladies, stretch those creases!

Sorry, The iMac is unlikely to be able to run Pro-Tools. Not because of it's very capable speed but the fact that Pro-Tools is top shelf Hardware/Software Audio Midi environment that also requires a PCI card based Mac. The normal version starts around £4000 (or there abouts) so forget that.

What you need for 2 track editing is a WAV editor or standard 2 track editor. There are some examples of these in this sites download area. Below is a link that will take you there, try looking in the Audio Editors or/and Audio Recorder sections for demos and shareware demos. The Mac's pro-programs, other than the more full on Multitrack Audio and Midi packages like Logic Audio or Cubase which maybe overkill, will do the job. Apps like Spark or Peak being the popular ones although expensive.

If I were you, I would look at Computer music magazines that have CD's on the front as you often get full program giveaways. MicroLogic AV was free on the front of Computer Music magazine some months ago and will do what you want and more for the price of a magazine, keep your eyes peeled...!

Yamaha CDRW and Macintosh.

Hi,

I am using a Mac G4 with a Adaptec SCSI card connected to a Yamaha
CDRW4416. I am using Adaptec Toast to burn CD's with. I have just got this drive
from a friend but have had problems burning CD's. Everything appears to go fine
until it's finishing writing the CD and it gives me an error message "Failed to
write in- out- lead" or something to that effect. I have had that problem before at
someone elses house long ago although I don't remember what the problem
ended up being. I have been through a number of disks now and am reticent to
burn anymore without making some changes. I'm using TDK disks although i tried
an unbranded one with no success.

Anyone help that has had experience with Toast and CDR may be some help to
me, please reply if you think you can suggest anything.

Thanks

Steve...

Re: Yamaha CDRW and Macintosh.

Hmmm. I'm not a mac guy, but have had similar problems with my PC. It helps to A: Don't do other stuff on the computer while burning. B: Run defrag (or the Mac equivalent)

Track Separation

Hi,
I'm pretty new to this computer thing but enjoy old fashioned home recording on my 4 track. What I'm wondering is, can I get software to separate drums, guitar, bass, vocal tracks etc from pre recorded cds, then to transfer to cd or somehow to my 4 track?
I'm a guitarist that would like to save a heap of time by not programming average sounding drum tracks when I would like to cover a song, but use their drums (for personal use only). Could you also advise me what accessories I need, ex: a cd burner etc. (I hope not, can't afford it!).
Thanks, anxiously awaiting your reply. Roger.

Re: Track Separation

The process will cost you nothing at all, why? because it's virtually impossible (at the moment) I say at the moment because software authors have suprised me in the past but I suspect we will be waiting a long time for it to come.

The problem is that, the computer only hears one bandwidth of frequencies as a pose to the human ear being able to differentiate between the different instruments. To the computer, it's just one noise. Expecting the poor thing to be able to pick out certain frequencies related to different instruments, that will also be part of other instruments, is all too much for it's IQ. The process is just too complicated. I say, learn to program the drums and other instruments yourself, it's not that hard and you can console yourself by creating a cover version that has you, and only you, stamped all over it.

midi type 0 software

Need midi software to download type 0 to floppy for pianodisc system PDS128-Plus piano. HELP

Re: midi type 0 software

: Need midi software to download type 0 to floppy for pianodisc system PDS128-Plus piano. HELP

Download GNMIDI shareware version 2.23 from www.gnmidi.com. It will not only allow you to change to midi type 0, but will also allow you to modify the tracks so that track one is Grand Piano, which is what makes the keys move with the pianodisc.

Re: midi type 0 software

Try MIDISoft Recording session. I have been using a 4 or 5 year old version (Win3.1) and it is good for a lot of stuff. MIDI only, and its own format, SNG. Really good prog for MIDI, Has score view of all tracks. NICE!

How to isolate vocals.

So, we get a lot of people her wondering how to remove vocals from a track. Sure, there is the good old karaoke plugin, however, don't expect much from it.
One thing you might try, is lookig for the same song, but an instrumental remix / version, also, what usually helps, is to isolate one short part of the song which doesn't have vocals, and loop it, you can add effects/ instruments yourself. it gives you a base to work with anyways. this is called slicing, basically.

Re: How to isolate vocals.

I want to isolate everything else and keep the vocals, is there any way to do that?

Thanks.

Mariano.
