recording music

I would like to record from a cassette to my PC and put the recording on a CD (learning Spanish) Can you help me find a recording program to record and edit music from my cassette. Thanks very much Terry

You can actually do it on the Microsoft sound recorder if you don't want to buy anything. All you do is use the headphone out from your tape deck (or line out, if it has one) and plug it in to the line in of your soundcard. Hit record and, Voila. Get the input level right before recording. then just go into youe CD burning software and burn that wave file onto the CD.

I never succeeded in making recordings any longer than about a minute with the Windows soundrecorder. Either I wasn't doing it right or it's just not possible, fact is that noone could ever tell me how to do it. If it really is impossible there are many other programs to record from tape to your hard drive. When I bought my soundcard (Soundblaster Live!) for instance, the package included "Wavestudio" and "Soundforge 4.0". Both can do the job, but I'm used to work with Soundforge from Sonic Foundry. Other programs you could use are Dart CD recorder,Pristine Sounds, n-Tracks Studio or Cool Edit. The more money you'll spend, the more ways you'll have to edit your recordings like removing hiss and other noise or add all kinds of effects.

error 1,011 w/ Macster

i Have tried to download Macster several times now, and I always get the same error message: "macster has unexpectedly quit because error 1,011 has occured" I have the carbon library installed, and everything seems fine. Has anyone experienced this?

Camera Canon Digital Underwater Photography

As with all underwater equipment - the key to making it waterproof is the o-ring. Housed systems typically have 1 major O-ring between the shell halves, and one or two at the port end. (2 more if you have a port extension) These are considered the 'user accessible' ones.

Each one of the controls on the housing and the flash bulkheads are also sealed with one or more o-rings, generally considered 'not user accessible.'

Good O-ring maintenance is the key to avoiding floods. Keep them in good shape and you should have little to worry about. These means keeping them lightly lubricated and free of any hair, lint, salt crystals, or other foreign debris that might prevent a good seal.

Use freshwater rinses religiously and you can show no fear when someone asks you that popular question of "Aren't you worried about a flood?" I personally think that the housings today are extremely reliable, and that a leak is caused either by user error or poor maintenance. Having all-risk insurance on your camera is not a bad idea either.

Re: error 1,011 w/ Macster

1. Try deleting your preference folder and do a "clean instal".

2. Before launching macster run the carbon lib, then open mactser... set-up your prefences and re-start.

(let the carbon lib reside in the macster folder)

FYI: On their website (macster)explained that they WERE having technical problems (about a week ago) the smae thing was happening to everybody...

good luck!

vocal eliminator from mp3's

I was wondering if anyone out there would know of a program that would eliminate the vocals from mp3's.

Re: vocal eliminator from mp3's

Try YoGen Vocal Remover 0.4, available free, from Download.com. Not perfect, but none are. Works on .wav files. Search for "vocal".

I tried out a free one that I found on this site. It didn't live up to my expectations though to be honest.

Vocal eliminators work by subtracting one channel from another. MP'3 are missing too much data for the cancelling process to work properly. MP3 is intended as a final listening medium in bandwidth limited systems, and does not lend itself very well to be manipulated. MP3 is a magic trick that removes abudant amounts of data that the algorithm decides you do not need to hear. It also uses the same data to represent the left, and right channels when it decides they are close enough for government work. No matter what any engineer says...you really can tell things are missing, you just get used to the lower quality. When most people are listening to new music in MP3 format, they have never heard the uncompressed version, so only the original artist cringes when they hear the MP3 version. High expectations, and MP3 do not coexist. You will need to use a better sounding compression scheme like aptx, or MP2. However, you will proabably will not find any of these on crapster. To have any success with vocal eliminators in any form, you should try wav files, cd's, dat, or vinyl.

Live MIDI backup with me and Acoustic

Hello Fellow Musicians!
I am seeking folks who have talents to share as much as I will

Cool...

Hi!

Well, I think i'm your man. I have experience in doing exactly what you do or want to do. Not to sound too much like an advert but we have a site that deals with music collaboration and discussions on how to set up your own website with your music on it and how to link to the other sites. It's in the early stages but the forum is picking up pace and there are some interesting new musicians turning up and sharing their talents with others. I am nearly at the end of a collaboration with the sites main sysop, and his wife who wrote the lyrics and is going to sing on it. I live in England and have created the music and they live in America, i'm a technology freak and it still astounds me!

So, if you need help and want to collaborate then i'll give it my best shot, if you want to get to know some new and nice people that are into music creation then go here...

http://www.mp3cities.com/user/caramelcorn/

If you spend some time on the site, you will learn what it's about and eventually a forward click or three will get you to the forum. Introduce yourself to gearhead (and tell him who sent you!) and your in. There is NO money involved, we do it for love of music and expression, just to make that clear!

Look forward to seeing you there...!!

midifile fadeouts

Can anyone please help. I have many midifiles which fade out at the end. What is the best or easiest method of removing or changing the fade-outs.
Thanking you in advance.

Mike

Re: midifile fadeouts

Open you midifile, go to the "events" view. You should see events with controller number 7 (volume), and the values decreasing as the music fades. just change these controller 7 numbers to higher values, (probabily 64 or 100) whichever is the main volume value of your song.

.RA to MP3 - Is it REALLY so dumb to ask???

Let's understand each other - I looked through this month's messages regarding this question and did not see any answers AND I had previously looked at the software to see if any of them fit the bill. I posed the question because RA2WAV is no longer available other then a demo version which leaves a voice-over on the files it creates. I am not looking for .wav to .mp3 but rather .ra to .mp3 - if someone would be so kind as to provide the NAME of the programs that perform this function I would TRULY appreciate it.

...btw... I teach Kindergarten...perhaps ASDF would like to come to class and learn manners with the other 5-year-olds

Thank you for your time and space to post all these OBVIOUS questions :)

Sound to Midi converters

Does anyone know if there is a program (one that actually works properly) which can convert wav files to midi? I have tried a few demo programs which claim to do this, but as we say in the North of Scotland they all seem to be a "heapa shite". Am I on a quest for a mythological beast, or is there really such a proggie.

Help

Bob

Basically...

I don't know what programs you've used buy I suspect that you have at least one good one. Even if you found the best program for this purpose you would still think it was a piece of Shite'. The only chance you have of getting any of those programs to work for you is to play one really slow and simple instrument through it and hope for the best. Putting a whole song through it will only confuse. I personally don't think it's worth it until someone works out how to do it properly... give it a miss..

How far have you got?

I have had a look at virtual drummer before but I don't recall the what it was like. How far have you got with it? Is it a sample based drum machine or Midi? Give me some more information and I will try and help. At worst, I will download it myself and check out how it works.

regards

Steve...

its like this Steve....

virtual drummer is a quicktime-based drum machine, the system requirements are: power PC; macOS 8.1; quicktime 3.0 or higher.

i have a quicktime player, but i doint know if that helps me at all, the message that comes up when i try and open the downloaded program reads:
could not find the application program that created the document named "virtual drummer 403.sit" to open the document, select an alternate program, with or without translation:

it gives me the option to open micro soft-word
but this does not help, i also downloaded rebirth but when i tried to open it another message
the application program"install rebirth RB-338 demo" could not be opened, because an error of type-39 occured.

thanks for the support any advise on what to do would be greatly appricated. see you later
