How much time does it take to record mp3's to 74min mini disk

i wanna buy an MD player, so i have to know what speed it can write. is it writes only at the speed the song plays?

Hmmm....

I don't know who the stupid one is now??

The MD recorder would be recording the audio output from the computer whilst the computer is playing the MP3 therefore it will take 74 minutes to record (depending obviously how long the MP3 is!). The point is, it will be in 'Real-time".

Cheers

Steve

I can't believe that you would ask a stupid question like that. The write, as well as read speed of the machine depends upon what you would like to purchase, and how much money you want to spend. Who turned the computer on for you?

"someone smarter than you"? - me thinks you spake too soon :)

You see an <b>MD</b> player is a <b>M</b>ini <b>D</b>isk player and if you had done your homework you would have known that it does not read/write pure data, rather it reads and writes MUSIC with a 4-1 compression ratio using pyscho-graphic technology.

I'll leave it to "someone smarter than you" to work out the rest of the answer....

Lost lyrics

I have about 10 seconds of a rock song that has been stuck in my head for weeks!! (yes I know possible sanity issues). Any Ideas who does it or what the name of it is.
the only words I can remember are from the begining of the chorus or bridge "I don't why you feel this way all the time..."

DVD or VCR audio into a mac

I have recorded sound into my mac using my plaintalk microphone, but is there a way to get audio from a DVD or VCR player through cables.
I have no rca input to my mac. I use a 9600 mac with a g3 card. I heard somewhere that you can get sound in through the microphone and speaker inputs using a rca cable connector. Please Help.

Yes...

There should be some 1/8" minijack stereo inputs and outputs on the Mac. You could connect the DVD or VCR audio line level to this minjack input and record that information. What software have you used to record the Microphone? That would then be all you need...

How to?

I am looking for computer deejay mixer and the theory behind it; voice remover and its theory; audio instrument detector and its theory. I am at avancc@Yahoomail.com. Please help.

How to?

I am looking for a deejay mixer for computers, the theory behind deejay mixers; vocal removers and its theory; instruments detector and its theory. Please help.

There is...

You could look in the file area on this Website for DJ software. You can find it yourself though as I am tired of doing it for others at the moment.

DJ mixer theory is simple. 2 sound sources (usually mixing desks) into a mixer that can fade between the 2 sources and output that information at line level for inserting into a line level Amplifier. They allow you to monitor either sound source with head phones (or whatever) without effecting the output stage of the mixer meaning you can listen to either signal without the listeners knowing which obviously allows you to listen to the next record that you are about to play without annoying the punters!

VOCAL REMOVERS... work on a unusable principle that the vocal on most records, is placed in the middle of the mix and therefore tries to cancel out that center part of the mix, leaving the rest of the music untouched. This doesn't work properly at all and I have never had a good result. Vocals are usually processed with stereo reverb for starters so you will still hear the vocalist in a tunnel effect and the rest of the mix will often sound tinny. Try it and be disappointed like everyone else.

INSTRUMENT DETECTORS. I don't understand what you mean???

Help! putting thing together, secuencer, synth midi!

hello,

i'm starting in comp. music, and i'm totally confused in which role plays every piece of software: synth, MIDI's; secuencer...can you give a clue? i have read , and i understand what they are, but how it works together.

by now i'm using SSpro, and i think it is good, is there any other better Studio programs.
What is VST?..

thanks in advance!

regards,

daniel!

By the Way.

VST stands for "Virtual Studio Technology" and is related to Steinbergs Cubase sequencer. It's more a brand name that suggests a virtual studio in your computer than anything. VST is often used to describe Pluggins (Audio effects and Instruments that can be used within a VST pluggin compatible device. i.e. Logic Audio/Spark)

Help...

: hello,

: i'm starting in comp. music, and i'm totally confused in which role plays every piece of software: synth, MIDI's; secuencer...can you give a clue? i have read , and i understand what they are, but how it works together.

Considering a computer based setup. The sequencer is the application that will record and playback any material input into it. These days, it can be Audio as well as Midi information. Audio information is obvious and can be recorded from the audio input on your computer, or directly from a Wave file (.aif/.wav).

Midi information is 'note information' and only represents what you played, when you played it, how hard you hit it, how long you held it for etc. There is no audio in Midi information, just Note information. This obviously relys on the fact that you have a Midi compatible device available to accept the Midi information, which could be looked at as information that is telling the Midi device what to do. The midi device (i.e. Midi Keyboard Synth) doesn't care if the information is coming from the Keyboard with your fingers hitting the keys or the information that those key presses represents therefore, after you have recorded a keyboard part into the sequencer the sequencer will output that information to the midi devices and a complete reproduction of what was played is heard. This is the basis of Midi sequencers although the Midi protocol is able to do other things that are not important to know at the very beginning of trying to understand a synth/midi/audio studio setup. So, if you had a Computer with a Midi Sequencer, (a Midi interface provides connectivity via a 5 pin Din lead to Midi devices to/from the computer) and a Midi compatible device, preferably a keyboard equipped one, then you could record and playback your keyboard playing. The next stage is to understand MultiTimbral and Multitracking. This is easy. Imagine that your keyboard is capable of playing more than one of the internal sounds at a time and your computer based sequencer is able to multi track. Imagine this...

1. In MultiTimbral mode (keyboard) you can have a sound assigned to different Midi channels. i.e. MultiTimbral part 1 (piano) set to Midi channel 1. MultiTimbral Part 2 (bass) set to midi channel 2.

2. In the sequencer you would choose, say, track 1, Midi channel 1 and press record, and then play something on the keyboard for 8 bars.

3. Rewind, select track 2 on the sequencer, set to Midi channel 2 and play a bass line whilst listening to the sound of the piano playing back.

This is the basis to Midi multitracking and is that simple to get going. Midi was designed many years ago by someone that thought 16 midi channels would be enough for then and the future... whooops! There are ways of getting more than 16 midi channels but I advise that you cross that bridge when you come to it. Learn the basics otherwise the more complicated stuff will just confuse and put you off the whole idea.

*Note*

If you have some information recorded on the Sequencer that is playing back on Midi channel 1 then any MultiTimbral part on the Keyboard that is set to Midi channel 1 will respond to the information being sent to it and so on.

AUDIO.

Audio information is more simple to understand although the demands on a computer system are far far greater than Midi information which is extremely tame by comparison. The process of recording is thus.

1. Select an Audio track for recording, audio track 1. Select where that information is coming from, (usually from the computers audio inputs). Press record and playback the information.

2. Select Audio track 2 for recording. Select where that information is coming from. Press record and playback the information.

You will now have 2 Audio tracks playing back at the same time. You could then combine this with any midi information that is on the sequencer and you have yourself a virtual band!

As previously mentioned. You can 'Import' Audio information into many sequencers using Import Audio facilities that you can then assign to an Audio track. You could experiment by importing a track from a CD that you like and then assigning that to and Audio track. The import another CD track and import that into another Audio track. Get that far and then fiddle with all the facilites provided by the sequencer to learn what possibilities you have. I could go on but feel that I have provided you with an overview of what is the modern Computer based setup.

Cheers

Help me Please !!

I have a 68040, with 7.6.1,36 Mb ram
Could I hear mp3 so ?
Thank you all.

The best way...

I would just give it a go if I were you. If the machine is incapable of playing it back you will find out by trying. If the answer is no, then get yourself an MP3 convertor from MP3 to .aif/.wav and try and run the resulting file using Quicktime or something else. The machine will have more chance of playing back an uncompressed file than a highly compressed on whilst trying to uncompress it in real time. My friend has a 603 60Mhz machine and it plays MP3's fine although they take ages to pack and unpack.

Good luck

can't download mikey karaoke

Please reply. I have tried for the last half hour and cannot download mikey karaoke. I tried to click your "if download fails" button, and it takes me to a page other than what it says it will take me to. That page says to wait another 30 seconds or click the same button which takes me to the same place. Seems like a programming error. How can I download this software?

AnalogX Voice Remover Problems

I just installed WinAmp 2.65 in order to take advantage of the AnalogX Voice Remover (vremamp.exe v 1.03). Both installs went fine and AnalogX shows up in the preferences section of WinAmp. When I fire it (AnalogX) up the scroll bar comes up and any adjustment seems to have no effect. For requirements, the AnalogX home page shows that the music must be stereo and that you must have DirectX 6.0 or better. I have DirectX 6.1 and the music, as reported by WinAmp, is stereo - the music source is a music CD, actually several. End result - it doesnt work, even imperfectly. Am I missing something?

Re: AnalogX Voice Remover Problems

Even if it did work...It will still sound like garbage. There is NOT an effective plug in that does this. The results Always Suck and aren't even worth using imho.

There is a lot of free software which you can get
perfectly legally because the software authors have
provided free licenses - this type of software is
called 'freeware' and you'll find lots of it at
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/freeware/">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/freeware/</a>

Alternatively you can use our <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/search/">Search Engine</a> to find
freeware - <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/htdig/htsearch.cgi?method=and&format=builtin-long&config=htdig&restrict=%2Fsmm%2Fprograms%2F&exclude=&words=freeware">click here for a freeware example</a>

You can also narrow down your freeware search by using
the word 'freeware' and then something like 'notation'
to find free notation software - <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/htdig/htsearch.cgi?method=and&format=builtin-long&config=htdig&restrict=%2Fsmm%2Fprograms%2F&exclude=&words=freeware+notation">click here to see a
search list of free notation software</a>.

I hope you find this useful.
Jason.

try www.sonicspot.com
