.MIDI FILES COPIED TO HD 1.44 MB DISK

Even though there is no problem copying my midi files to subject disk, why do I have problems opening them and playing?

I copied about 20 short midi files and played them back and then I was unable the next day to play them.

This is not the first time, can you tell me what I may possibly be doing wrong as I am pretty much still a novice at computing. Thanks for any response.

Trouble with midis

Does anyone know what I can use to convert midis to wavs?

Thanks

Re: Trouble with midis

it can be done in terms of 'file' conversion but you need a program and a soundcard with good sounds. Better to play the midis in a sequencer while using the record feature. This will record the noise of the midi instruments onto an audio track in the sequencer which can then be exported by itself as a .wav!!! This the best way I think so check out www.sonicspot.com for a free midi/audio sequencer for the job or buy Music Centre Pro @ 30 UK pounds - a steal and a fantastic piece of software

good luck

Can anyone sensible recommend

Can anyone recommend a cheapish Midi Drum pad. I have looked at the DrumKat but it is too expensive. I could honestly do with a basic drum machine with velocity sensitive pads that will transmit Midi (only if necessary), I don't care about the internal sounds at all.

I have used a really cheap Yamaha at one point but have forgotten the name (D-111 or something) that would just do the job.

mp3

each time I go to play mp3 songs my pc tells me that it cannot play it as it is unable to locate MMJB.exe. Have the kids deleted it on me and if so how do I get it back etc

thanks

Re: mp3

Go up to the kids and say,

"have you deleted Music Match Juke Box kids?" if they say no then ask them "are you sure you haven't deleted Music Match Juke Box?" if they say no we haven't again then the little buggers have deleted it...

Do a search on your HD for the file, if it isn't there then you could try re-installing it.

The age old question

The age old question rears it's ugly head again. Forget it and think of something else like a cloud or a milkshake... (sorry, cheap sainsburys wine!) You can try the Karaoke programs on this site but they are probably written out of the frustration that nobody can actually work out a way to do it.

Re: The age old question

Te he steve1 that's probablly the case!! I read it can be done using cross phasing syntheseis or something. This applies to a stereo signal in the mix only. It is cross sequenced and therby cancels itself out. Fighter jet pilots use the method to deaden the sound of their engines in their headphones. So the answer is - contact the RAF!

Actually this is the method used in music as well
but it's unreliable as it relies on the hope that
the recording was made in full stereo with the only
sound perfectly centered being the vocals.

If you get really lucky with your source recording
you will remove nearly all the vocals but you will
still often have the vocal reverb in the mix because
most stereo reverbs have slightly different delays
and echos on each side of stereo.

You can try AnalogX Vocal Remover to see what
I mean.

anyone using the EMU APS card?

I was just wondering if anyone had heard any news about the new 2.0 drivers for the APS?

Re: anyone using the EMU APS card?

: I was just wondering if anyone had heard any news about the new 2.0 drivers for the APS?

I use the card but it can only run on Win95 with ver 1.5 drivers
I have vented my frustration about Emu's typical
slow follow up with drivers to :
supportaps@creativelabs.com

Hopefully we'll see something soon.

By the way I do like the card.
Sound fonts are cool
And the FX are great

Re: anyone using the EMU APS card?

I have talked to EMU. The 2.0 driver have been terminated. EMU will not make anything more for the APS. Sad. But good news: Some people at http://go.to/emu10k1 are making their own drivers.

This is the mail from EMU:
E-MU / ENSONIQ's policy is to keep our products current whenever possible. We
regret to announce that the development of Version 2.0 Drivers and Applications for
the APS has been suspended due to a change in our product map as dictated by the
marketplace. We understand that this is upsetting for customers who have been looking
forward to this release. We need to remind all customers that any and all online

Re: anyone using the EMU APS card?

Does this mean that you have used third party drivers with the APS? The reason I ask is that the EMUAPS.VXD keeps crashing my PC!

a GOOD Mac multitrack prog?

Hey,
Does anyone have some advice for a program for mac that is comparable to ACID? I love ACID for the pc because i use all wav files. I don't need the midi capabilities. But anyway, I am looking for a prog that gives me unlimited tracks, efx, and has an ACID feel.
any suggestions mould be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
dna

Re: a GOOD Mac multitrack prog?

I have two ideas: "Paris" from EMU Ensoniq (http://www.emu.com/products/paris/info.html)
which I use and like, and which has a reputation for excellent sound, and runs smoothly. It can get kinda pricey cuz it's modular (you can add 8ch modlules for more analog ins), but I think it's a solid system. I don't think it's Acidy though...
Also there's baby Pro Tools (DigiStudio I think) for less money and with comprable capabilities. From what I hear it's a well designed and user friendly system. More buggy than Paris, (but that's only based on my friends experience), and also not Acidy...O

Cakewalk Home Studio to Pro Audio

I can upgrade from Home Studio 9.01 to Pro Audio Deluxe 9.0 for $129. What is the difference in the 2 programs? Is it significant enough to be worth this price for someone who is not a professional?

Re: Cakewalk Home Studio to Pro Audio

Hi V.,

Well, it depends on what you want to do. Pro Audio a lot more features in terms of editing. And it also allows you to record many more tracks of audio data. If you're mainly working with MIDI, then HS is probably okay for what you need. But if you want to record songs like you hear on the radio, then the extra editing and recording features in Pro Audio are definitely worthwhile.

Best,
Scott

ACID 2.0 upgrade (BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH)

Hi there,

I've got a problem that I'm wondering if anyone else has run into.

I have purchased the upgrade CD for Sonic Foundry ACID (1.0a to 2.0). The problem is that whenever I try to install the upgrade, my computer "blue screens" and crashes out.

I have tried everything I can think of, and after calling several times to Sonic Foundry, neither they nor I had any clue as to why it wouldn't install.

The weird thing is that I've never had a problem with Acid 1.0.

My machine is configured as such:

Intergraph dual 400mhz with 512Mb RAM running WinNT 4.0

If anyone has had a similar experience or tips, please get in touch with me.

Thanks,

Brittnell

VS880 & CD burning

I have a VS880 and want to burn CDs. I also need a faster computer. Is it possible (and practical) to burn from the VS to the computers CD or should I bite the bullet and buy the Roland CDRII?

Re: VS880 & CD burning

If you have a CD burner in your computer then you should spend the Money on getting an SP/DIF equipped Sound Card. You could then copy the songs to .AIF/.WAV on your computer through a sensible digital connection and burn the CD's from there. This would save you money and bring in maybe a better sound card...

rebirth, drum software

Hey! does anyone out there use rebirth? what do you think?
or does anyone know about other drum software that are good
for a mac g3?

Re: rebirth, drum software

It's half-way decent for 909 simulation. I'd rate it at 5 out of 10.
Really good for tb-303 lines. But the squelchy distorted 303 lines was played out 5 years ago. Aparrantly a lot of newbie ravers still think it's cool for some strange reason. But it was WAY overdone years back before all their bedtimes.
my 2 cents.
There's a lot of other cool programs with step pattern like DrumStation, but I don't believe it's on the mac platform.

Midi problem

I just upgraded my computer I put in a 550P3 128meg ram
Win 98 and a 13gigHD. I have a Midiman Dman, and a Midi
man 2044. My problem Is I cant get any midi to record.
I have a Korg X-5 keyboard. and before I upgraded everything
worked fine. Its faster at prossing tracks and I can playback existing
midi that Cakewalk supplys however It wont recordI can't even hear If I try to
play.Local Off, Is off. Any help would be great thanks
John

Re: Midi problem

John,
I also have a Midiman Dman 2044. I'm just curious why you said that you have a Dman and a 2044.You are aware that they are the same card.
Any way, because the Dman doesn't process MIDI, what MIDI interface do you have. I would guess that your problem may be that you think your Dman also handles MIDI, which it does not.
As long as you have a Midiman soundcard, why not try the Midiman Portman PC-S MIDI interface. Thats what I have and I'm really happy with it. It was only $70 and it simply plugs into the serial port. No need for power or internal IRQ's.

Record CDs to Mac

What software options are available to record my CDs to my Mac and play them back from the hard drive? RealJukebox specifies PCs but does not claim to work on Macs. Any thoughts on my options?
Thanks for your help--Mike

Easy...

Hi,

All you need to do is plug the audio outputs to the input on your Mac. Use a program from the list (link below) that records
from the Mac input. (Most of them will do it, just use common sense). This will create a WAVE file In either .WAV or .AIF
format that you can play back but doing something as simple as dropping the file onto Quicktime, (have an alias of
quicktime on your desktop and drop them onto it to play).

You could then have a sift through the MP3 file area on this board and pick an MP3 decoder that will compress the file to
roughly 10% of it's original size (depending on the compression quality choice). A five minute stereo .Aif or .Wav is about
50megs so you will more than likely accept the MP3's minor but noticeable quality.

Mpegger is a good compressor of MP3's, register it if you can because they did a good job.
