Re: help

Ah but what ARE your needs??? You can 'stream' music from the net which means it is sent by a remote computer to your computer second by second. This is where the buffering comes in. Buffering is your computer 'waiting' for the next bit of the song! It should play in one go but often you get 10 seconds then wait a bit for the next 10 seconds! Very undesirable!

The best way is to download songs to your computer THEN listen to them. This way no buffering is involved. Sign up with 'Napster' for free downloads of any music. Get the following music players too and see which one u like-

'Winamp' is excellent - http://www.winamp.com/
'Sonique' is too!

Remember though that 'buffering' will always be a problem when 'streaming' music untill phone lines and modems become a lot faster! For streaming Media Player is probablly as good as it gets!

steve

Try both and take it easy betty

: all i want to do is listen to music. I have the shockmachime and i had the windows media 7 player but the music is terrible. It keeps buffering, what ever that is. Im new to computers and learning everyday, but most of this is overwhelming at times. please help. thank you

cubasis problem!!!!!!!

Can somebody please help?I own a copy of cubasis vst, every time i right click the mouse,a sign comes up saying "cubasis has caused an illigal operation it must be closed down"can some body please e mail with some help about this.thank you.

Re: cubasis problem!!!!!!!

sounds VERY strange!

the problem could originate in a few places. Maybe you don't have enough RAM? Before I upgraded from 32 MB to 94 by putting in an exter 64MB I got the same message a lot in music sequencers. If you need more RAM the cheapest place I found was http://www.crucial.com/uk/ try there if u r in UK.

Also maybe you could try changing your sound out settings to another synth. If u have 2 options of output (check in Cubasis under audio out) choosing one over another may decrease the instability.

Also there could be a corrupt or over written file problem. Uninstall Cubasis with uninstall program from Cubasis folder or if not present the 'Add/Remove' function in 'Settings'. Then reinstall it to install any Cubasis file u may have lost while installing another program.

I'd say RAM may be the prob though. Even if u are over Recomended minimum! 64MB is the bare minimum for computer music no matter what the manuals say!

How to conver real audio files to mp3 or wav ?

How to conver real audio files to mp3 or wav ?

Sound card?!?!?!?

I'd like to buy a sound card but I don't have a lot of money. So Iwas thinking about a Sounblaster live platinum 5.1, but I don't know if this card could permit me to use my PC like a mix recorder. I don't know if there's any delay in the record with this card!??!! I've got only 250$, please help me!!

DAVIDE - important info

Incase you don't know Davide the ammount of RAM you have is VERY important in PC based music recording and will effect this 'delay' you mention. So I suggest you have ATLEAST 64MB of RAM OK? The more the merrier. It is much better to have this RAM and a cheaper soundcard than to spend all your money on a top quality soundcard but be plagued by audio glitches or 'clicking' which occurs with little RAM. Also 400Mhz MIN processor to reduce delay.

steve

Creative SoundBlaster

Davide - Soundblaster soundcards are specifically designed with PC recording in mind!!! It's like asking if a Ferari Sports car is any good for driving fast!!! Chaek out thier website - www.sblive.com This companies cards are considered to be VERY good for computer based music recording

what is it called?

hello, i need some software to 'analyse' music ie to
show the intensity of the different frequencies, can
you tell me if such software exists, and if so what is
the proper name for it , thanks,
Henry Widd

Re: what is it called?

What you're looking for is a "spectrum analyser" or sometimes also called FFT or Fourier Analysis
because this is the mathematical algorithm used to create the spectrum.

Try Cooledit. It has some excellent analysing
features and these can even be used in the
trial version so you can see if they fit your
needs...

Burning wav files to audio CD

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong. I have Nero burning software. I'm trying to burn wav files to the CD/RW but the CD doesn't play on a normal CD player. The software seems to burn the files in CDA format. Should I first convert the files to CDA before burning them?

It's not necessary to change the format to CDA.
Nero should convert the wav to the CD format before burning.
Did you try to play any CD/RW in your CD player before? Does the CD player support to read CD/RW?

I am looking for a mp3 to wav code. If anyone could help me out I'll be glad to help you if I can. Thanks a lot.

I don't usually complain here but if you took just a few minutes to browse this site you would find the answer has been given hundreds of times at places like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/49264.html">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/49264.html</a> or <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/tutorials.html">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/tutorials.html</a>

Please read this forum before clogging it up with the same questions over and over and over...

Can my CD player read MP3's?

If my CD player cannot read MP3's then what do I need to convert it into? And where can I get it? I ask because I just got a CD burner and I am starting to download from Napster. Thank you!

Your CD Player can't read MP3's but that doesn't matter because you can download programs that will burn your MP3's to CD so that any CD Player can play them - try <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/DartCDRecorder/">Dart CD-Recorder</a>

i need a answered

hello, i am curious about how or what i would use to add my voice to a song. what i mean is that i would like to be able to record a song then get rid of the original voice on it and put my voice on it so that i can create a spoof song.

: hello, i am curious about how or what i would use to add my voice to a song. what i mean is that i would like to be able to record a song then get rid of the original voice on it and put my voice on it so that i can create a spoof song.

This will be a two step process (and results will vary for long technical reasons which I won't go into here but which you can read at <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/48428.html">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/48428.html</a>)

Firstly you will need to remove the vocals with a program like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/htdig/htsearch.cgi?method=and&format=builtin-long&config=htdig&restrict=%2Fsmm%2Fprograms%2F&exclude=&words=vocal+remover">AnalogX Vocal Remover</a>.

Then you will need to open your newly modified WAV file in a mulitrack recorder like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/n-Track_studio/">n-Track Studio</a> where you will be able to record your vocals on a separate track so you can mix it together properly.

Mixing Software

Alright, here's the deal. I use a Fostex 16 track digital recorder in my home studio. I'm new to this, so take it easy on me. I can transfer the songs to my PC via Zip disks as wav. files. Problem is that when I open the file where I send the wav. files to. Windows recognizes 16 wav. files one for each track. I need software that is capable of putting those wav. files back together into onw song. Man I really need help with this. Thanks Joseph

Assuming all your 16 WAV file tracks are all in sync (that is they all start at the same time) you can open them all into <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/n-Track_studio/">n-Track Studio</a> for mixing there just like on a normal mixing console - a bit of a warning though, you will need a good computer with a fast disk - preferably SCSI - to play all 16 tracks and effects without any glitches.

If it has problems with 16 tracks then you might need to get something more powerful like DDClip or Cubase VST - you'll find them and many other multitrack mixing programs at <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MULTITRACK_RECORDING/">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MULTITRACK_RECORDING/</a>

It's been ages since I played with an ASR10 and I never used my PC for editing but It looks like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Epsilon/">Epsilon</a> will do the trick - and it's Shareware which is free for the first 30 days and then only $20 if you want to keep it.

Hope this helps,

Looking for protected audio CDs

I'm looking for samples of released commercial audio CDs that incorporate some form of copy protection.
If you can provide me with samples I'd appreciate it.

Re: Looking for protected audio CDs

Hi Matthew,

I don't believe there are currently any copy protected audio CDs on the market yet. I may be mistaken, but since the vast majority of CD players on the market don't include any kind of detection circuitry, I think it's too late for CDs. Audio DVDs, on the other hand, do have copy protection.

Best,
Scott
