Studio 6.0 doesn't work well on Win98--HELP!

My copy of Studio 6.0, which was a great program
on my old Win95 machine, does not function fully on my new
Win98 machine. I have a 667 mhz processor, 128 megs of
memory, and a soundblaster 512. The program loads
midis but the Inspector function doesn't display
information--only a blank window. Also the recording
function of audio lab doesn't work. Can anybody give
me some suggestions on how to get
this program working?

Laptop Audio

Hey...
I've been out of the computer loop for a few years, and am totally new to audio production on computers. I have recently been provided with the means to purchase a new computer, which I would like to use for sound production (sequencing, sampling, etc). Unfortunately, I have no experience or knowledge in this area. I would like some advice on what components (soft/hardware) would be required to make for a decent laptop studio. I don't have any external equipment that I need to connect to (all production would be software based), except for a mixer hooked up to turntables, which would be used for sampling and such. Something tells me the standard laptop soundcard w/ line in and stereo out would be insufficient, but perhaps I'm wrong. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

in computer music world PC is most important so first look at how much RAM etc. You need 64MB RAM bare minimum and 400Mhz processor. IF 400 u OK if 32MB u no OK so get more - as much as u can

Laptops suffer from slowness sometimes and lack of in/outputs but go for it. Look into a good souncard by all means but no external hardware apart from CD R required. Keep it soft + keep it cheap! Check out www.sonicspot.com to download demos. There is no right answer - you work with what feels nice to you.

I'd reccommend you start with FruityLoops. It may do EVERYTHING you want it is that powerfull. It will do audio samples like a dream. 'Cool Edit Pro' is a standard audio editor but 'Sampled' does the same job and it's free! You would also need a sequencer? This is good to put audio loops in plus add midi live instruments/mixing. It novice + looking for cheap the Music Centre Pro from Data Becker no question - looks great + highlr reccomended and top midi facilities. If more go Cubasis if more go Cubase VST or mabe something else - you decide!

Humble Request : Streambox Ripper

Has anyone got the previous version of Streambox Ripper than had the option to convert Real Media to Wave files. Apparently it no longer exists in the current version. Has anyone got the former version (one that allows RealMedia files to be converted to Wave). Obviously I am only asking the shareware version (one with the 15 day time limit).

yes they can play .mid from floppy disk (in play mode)
problems with XG/GS drums can occur (could be misinterpretated as non-drums)

More comfortable is to connect the korg-i synthesizer
with midi cable to computer soundcard and play midi
with software. Then no floppy disk copying is necessary,
play your midi files directly from computer through keyboard.

GNMIDI Shareware (karaoke) entertainment midi player http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/GNMIDI
has special settings for playing General MIDI only
then the XG/GS special midi file settings are filtered and
the keyboard plays them well.

Hi. I have had my korg for nearly 7 years. IS50. I do love it. But now I wish to download music so that I can lazily do some "karaoke" scenes. How do I go about loading onto a stiffie from the internet? What I really mean is, do I have to spend money to download? My daughter has a new computer and cannot get it to accept the MPP software.

I'm looking for any freeware, shareware or..(:)) soft enabling me cooperatioon between my PC and asr 10 storage devices (syquest ezdrive for instance)via scsi. Setup is working properly but i'm not able to make format conversion so that couldn't write samples from PC to asr10 formated syquest drive.

I am a closet guitarist/singer, and have recently been wanting to record my efforts. After stumbling on to a software program my ex-roommate recieved with the purchase of a new sound card (soundblaster), I did so with some success through a cheap microphone he uses for his computer. However, after burning the songs on cd, i was unhappy (not suprised)with the finished project. I am now in the process of building a new computer, and my question is, do you know of any software/hardware i could purchase to assist me with my recording. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi Kenny,

This is very big subject and it really depends on what you're looking to spend. If you're just recording audio, then you'll need a good sound card or audio interface. Both MIDIMan (www.midiman.com) and Echo (www.echoaudio.com) have some very nice products.

And for software, you'll need a digital audio sequencing program like Cakewalk (www.cakewalk.com) or Cubase (www.steinberg.net). You could also go with something like Cool Edit Pro (www.syntrillium.com) or Vegas (www.sonicfoundry.com) if you don't need MIDI capabilities.

Acid+Cubase Sink Together?

Connect the MIDI ports of your PCs. Set Acid to Chase to MIDI time code (see manual). Set Cubase to Output time code to MIDI Output Options\Synchronise\Output). You'll need a mixer to mix outputs from both computers together. It's easy in theory. :)

Hi .. I have a similar problem... I have connected the midi cable correctly, I have set the sync option but when the pointer arrive to the right loop cubase restart perfectly while acid continue to play and don't come back to the left loop start....

DMAN 2044 Installation

I've recently installed my DMAN2044 card into a new machine. I can't find my installation disk but downloaded the new drivers from midiman's web site.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a complete package (just an update) so I'm missing the control panel utility and the Win98 Device Manager is telling me that the card is either missing or not all the drivers are installed.

Can someone send me a zip of the original installation disk?

Does anyone know if the so called "audio" cdr's are superior to standard, and should they be used when taking a project to be mastered professionaly? Does a CD brand really make a difference when storing digital music data?

1st, it appears m3u format cannot be converted into mp3 files. If it can be done, no one knows how to. What you must do first is get a media player before you can start downloading in mp3 format, more than likely you do not have one thus go to www.winamp.com and download this software, it's free. Once you have this software, downloading from Napster will save in mp3 format. Those files will be found under your c drive/program files/napster/music.
Once you have downloaded music from Napster lets say, and you see that it is saved in mp3 format, your next step is to get an mp3 converter. Go to www.mp3towav.com this one is also free. Before you can burning music on cd's, they must be .wav files. Once you music saved in .wav format, you are now ready to burn your cd's!!
remember to erase your .wav files, only keep .mp3 files since .wav files will take up a lot of space on your hardrive.

2) get winamp, this software will give your pc the power to save in mp3 format from napster. go to www.winamp.com
3) get your music, once downloaded and saved in mp3 format go to www.mp3towav.com and also get this software. Follow your software's instructions and you are set to start burning cds

I have found one program. It's kind of hacky but I guess it is better than nothing. You run it from the DOS command and you need a fast computer if you want good quality output because it converts the file to AVI in real time. When I tried it there was no sound and the frame rate was choppy but it worked.
