This thing crossfades, normalizes and mixes and its very easy to find your napster files. The best...hands down. Comes with 7 free burns...but its only 17 bucks after that! Very COOL!

Cubase VST, Digital Performer, Logic?

I just trashed the final PC I will ever own for a new G4. I got tired of all the OS problems on the PC and spending hours trying to simply record a 10min track due to drop outs. I used to use Cubase, but now that I’ve switched I’m looking for the best (other than Pro Tools) in audio/MIDI software. I was trying to find people who’ve used all these products in recent times and can give some sound advice in addition to the literature that I’ve seen floating around. My priorities in order are:

1.Stability of Audio and MIDI. No hiccups in either especially during recording
2.Excellent tracking and quality of sound for real-time controls like Dynamics/EQ/ Fades/Pans etc.
3.Soft synths (I guess like Virtual Instruments in Cubase)
4.Variety of plug in effects

I’m using this primarily as the hub of my home studio making electronica and jazz and have gobs of MIDI equipment all over the place. Secondarily I’d like to start doing scoring for a variety of animation projects. I loved Cubase’s interface, but I felt it had some issues in the audio dept. (although I hear the new release has eliminated some of the problems). I eventually would like to move to 5.1 audio, and except for the Panhandler plug for the PC version of Cubase there aren’t any plug ins I’ve seen that’ll do this for the afore mentioned software for Mac. So far I’m leaning towards Digital Performer, but wanted some input from you wizards of sound. Thanks for your input, and please feel free to point me to literature if you know of any (I’m getting some old Electronic Musician mags. right now).

Try Emagic Logic Audio Platinum. It tends to be stable and is better that Opcode Studio Vision as it seems to be an easier to use interface.

Hello Attila - your English is very good and I understand you perfectly. However some of the 'I's in your message are 'y's which is quite funny!

Anyway to answer your request - I'd reccomend you download the demo version of Yamaha's 'XG Works' from

http://www.sonicspot.com/xgworks/xgworks.html

This audio/midi sequencer comes with 'Styles' of drum patterns and also programable chord progressions which you could play guitar along to. It is designed for recording on a PC but the free demo version would be fine for what you want. It is a big download and will take u a while to learn to use but it's a nice looking program and fun to use! If it's not for you then look around the site (sonicspot.com) to see what else they have available OK?
