Yes

Yes that's right - the Yamaha SY-XG50/100 is such a software card - if u get this you may not need to get a new soundcard.

: Yes that's right - the Yamaha SY-XG50/100 is such a software card - if u get this you may not need to get a new soundcard.

And I highly *Highly* *HIGHLY* recommend Yamaha, and not Roland. I have checked both of them out, and I feel Yamaha is MUCH better. You can get it at www.yamaha-xg.com and get only S-YXG100 and not 20 or 50. But if u want professional quality sound, go for a hardware soundcard. Yamaha seems to compromise the sound quality in their software synthesizer for the sake of download time. So, Yamaha S-YXG100 is the *best* you can get for normal jobs and get a hardware yamaha soundcard for professional quality sound.

.asx to .wav conversion

I have a slew of .asx sound files I got and need to convert them to .wav on my PC. They read and play within windows sound player, but I can not edit them or even open them up in Sound Forge. Is there an easy way to convert them to .wav? I need them for a flash animation I am making so your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for your help.

FAQ: MP3 to Audio CD

Re: mp3 to cd player format

Yes, you will need to convert each .mp3 file to .wav format. Then if you have a cd writing program like Adaptec easy cd creator just drag these .waf files in when creating an audiuo cd and adaptec automatically puts them in cd audio format.

FRUITY PRO VS. TS-404

DEAR MUSIC SOFTWARE MACHINE:

I WANT TO BUY EITHER THE FRUITY-PRO VERSION OF FRUITY LOOPS OR THE TS-404. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE LATER ALSO INCLUDES THE FEATURES OF FRUITY-PRO. I AM FORCED TO ASK YOU BECAUSE I CANT FIND A CONTACTS BUTTON IN THE MANUFACTURES WEBSITE.

THANK YOU ADVANCE. YOUR HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

CARLOS POLANCO

TS-404 has more features + hence more expensive!

Hello Carlos,

No the TS 404 is not same as Pro. If u click help>register in the demo I think u will find the information on the three different versions available. The TS404 has the 404 synth enabled plus the piano roll I think so that you can create melody lines with single samples whereas the Pro version does not have these facilities. It IS confusing because u would think 'Pro' is the most feature packed! You shouls also find the info on the fruity site under 'registration'. It is a great program.

steve

Re: TS-404 has more features + hence more expensive!

Steve is correct. TS404 is brilliant. I highly recommend it. Demo available <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/FruityLoops_win95/">here</a>.

Cheers

Get your mp3.com site a lot more attention

I found this really useful tool for promoting your music site. It only takes a minute to sign up (for once) and best of all its totally free! Check it out.

http://www.searchlynx.com/hitlynx/users/manual.shtml

What does it actually do though...q

Thanks for the information but what does it actually do?? I suspect that many people that have music on the net will have signed up to all the main search engines already. If it is just a way of doing that it would be nice to know to save people the trouble of doing it again and have incure the usual mail bombing from sale of the given address.

I can't imagine what else it could do, please tell me??

Steve...R

Re: Get your mp3.com site a lot more attention

MAKE SOME QUICK CASH FOR CHRISTMAS...

PLEASE READ AND TRY.....
I'LL MAKE MONEY YOU'LL MAKE MONEY HELL WE WILL MAKE MONEY!
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are $7.00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 7 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #7, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: "what have I got to lose except 7 stamps and $7.00, right?" Then I invested the measly $7.00. Well GUESS WHAT!?... Within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,100.00! In the third week I had over $8,750.00 and it's still growing. I have paid off my credit card bills and bought a used car Also started my XMAS Shopping. It's certainly worth $7.00, and 7 stamps, I have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, WHY it works... Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy!
KEEP READING TO FIND OUT HOW THIS WORKS!!!
Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (Print it out or download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in!
It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only $7.00 (Plus postage on only 7 envelopes...one time only...no repeat mailing)
IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent: No misleading promises or claims; it is not illegal; and it is 99% no risk - it really works!
If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends.
JUST KEEP READING!!! PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions.
You will now become part of the Mail Order business. In this business your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You are in the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which is made from people like you and me asking to be included in that list.
Here are the 4 easy steps to success:
STEP 1: Get 7 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 7 US $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 7 pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent thievery). Next, place one paper in each of the 7 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 7 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal. Mail the 7 envelopes to the following addresses:
#1) B. Davis 1520 N.E. 151st street apt. 103 Miami, fl. 33162
#2) K. Davis 2415 Dawson Rd. Apt. J-7 Albany, Ga. 31707
#3) G. Lee 10688 Wheelhouse circle, Boca Raton, FL 33428
#4) B. Sedlack 358 Danforth Ave, Suite 27, Toronto, ON, M4K 3Z2 Canada
#5) T. Smith 740 Shady Drive #13-D Yazoo City,MS 39194
#6) J. Shelters 1063 Woodhill Newark, NY 14513
#7) S. Richards P.O. Box 104 Palestine, OH 45352
STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (7 becomes 6, 6 becomes 5, etc...) and add YOUR name as number 7 on the list.
STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! You won't get very much unless you post like crazy.
This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it again, and again.
PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way. If you are of integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way.
NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you. This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft.)
So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, 7 members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What an opportunity for only $7.00 ($1.00 for each of the first 7 people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the list and you're in business!
---DIRECTIONS FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS---
Step 1) You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your cursor to the bottom of this document, and select 'copy' from the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer's memory.
Step 2) Open a blank 'notepad' file and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the 'edit' menu select 'paste'. This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you can add your name to the list.
Step 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your postings in different settings, you'll always have this file to go back to.
Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching for various newsgroups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.)
Step 5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button. You're done with your first one! Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup!
**REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** That's it! You will begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may eventually want to rent a P.O. Box due to the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use, as long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.**
HERE'S HOW $7.00 DOLLARS TURNS INTO THOUSANDS!! Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a very low example). So then I made $5.00 with my name at #7 on the letter. Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #6 and only 5 persons respond to each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for me, now those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #5 and only 5 replies each, I will bring in an additional $125.00! Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #4 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $625.00! OK, now here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200 letters with my name at #3 and they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me $3,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups with my name at #2 and if still 5 persons per 200 newsgroups react I will receive $15,625,00! With an original investment of only $7.00! AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $7.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 7 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is: do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday? JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So, can you afford $7.00 and see if it really works?? I think so... People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember, play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will really work. GOOD LUCK!!!

Recording a file from which vocals have been removed using that

I don't have any audio editing programs which support DirectX plugins, so I can't go the 'export' route. It also sounds horrible when I play the song from my speakers into the microphone. Any advice would be appreciated.

If I get u right

u just need to record the Winamp output? Try using an freeware audio editor like 'Sampled' in the background. U may be able to get it to record the output of Winamp by simply pressing record while the song plays. If not why not invest in Data Beckers Music Centre Pro £29UK - an excellent Audio/Midi sequencer with unrivalled onboard midi facilities and DirectX plugin compatible ofcourse

Taking out vocals

Can anyone pleae tell me of a software that can take out the vocals of an mp3 single.

Re: Taking out vocals

analog-x vocal remover is a plug in that you can use if you have or if you install winamp, "winamp.com".

however, I've never really used it because it really doesn't work very well.

happy hunting!

Re: Taking out vocals

You'll have to convert the MP3 to WAV and hope that the vocals have been panned center.

Try: <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/VocalRemover/">AnalogX Vocal Remover</a> and <a href=" http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/YoGenVocalRemover/">YoGen</a>.

vs-1680 editing software

What is available to edit material produced on the Roland VS-1680 offline? Specifically, I would like to pull material from the 1680 totaly intact and edit as required. Any ideas?

Thanks

Don Eichner

I assume...

You want to take individual tracks from songs? You used to be able to do that on the VS880 with SCSI although I think it was written out of the OS at some point for some reason. I have an older VS880 and that can do it apparently but I don't bother because I have an SP/DIF link to and from my Mac and the VS880. I can record tracks in real time, edit them and then send them back if I want. I can also send a track to the VS (although I have to record it as normal) through the SP/DIF cable for processing in it's lovely FX processor and then pump it back to the Mac all in the digital Domain. If you have a soundcard with the SP/DIF connector then this is a good way.

I can also back up whole songs on my Audio only CD burner using the DAT dump on the VS. This isn't playable but it gives me space on the VS880's Hard disk when required.

Emagic made a Program called Logic Audio VS which is quite cheap apparently. This gives you control of quite a few of the VS's features from your computer. There is another program that gives FULL control but I can't remember what it's called or who makes it. They are an Australian company apparently and the information on them can be got from Roland themselves, (they told me about it).

ASIO Problems on Mac

I have an Logic Audio 4.2.2 for the Mac and just bought a Delta 44 sound card. But when I run the audio in Logic it keeps telling me:
ASIO Error:
System Disk is Too Slow or System Overload

I have a G3 300mhz with 128RAM, so I thought it would be fine. Can anyone help???

Re: ASIO Problems on Mac

I do believe, Kelvin, your processor is too slow
300 mhz on a g3 isnt really enough to run Audio.
You need a faster machine or to use as few plugins
and audio as possible but there isnt a great deal you can do.I'd say you need at the very least a
cpu you power of 500 mhz (not laptop) The ram will
handle multiple open programs consecutively but do
nothing for the processor, sorry.Any way you probably know this by now and have solved it.
Getz you a 1ghz machine.

Re: ASIO Problems on Mac

I have the new Delta 44 soundcard on a 733 G4 with 640RAM and updating it to 1.5GB of RAM very soon (since RAM is quite cheap these days).

I get the ASIO error as well on Logic and tried the three drivers supplied by M-Audio. I checked their Website and noticed that there were links to it (if you look on the search engines) but they are no longer working.

Btw, I tried this on OS 9.2. The only thing I can do is use something else on 9.2 or do my multitracking using the 10.1 version of the shareware Sound Studio via my Delta 44 (which works pretty good).

Otherwise, keeping patient until new software comes out in a few months.

Too bad M-Audio's support never replies to e-mail on subject's like this.

Re: ASIO Problems on Mac

I would have thought that you Mac would be fine for this sort of setup. You have to understand that Audio cards use more system resources and memory on a mac but don't suffer as much as a Microsoft machine due to memory address problems. You may find that you are running low on memory. Are you trying to run songs you have already recorded? have you tried it on a new song and seen if the problem is there with just a few tracks? 128 megs of Ram isn't such a lot when dealing with pro audio sequencers. I have 256 on a G4 and am thinking about another 128. Pluggins etc ramp up the amount of memory used and often cause system overload reports as does having too many tracks running at the same time on a slowish HD. The thing I do is have the System performance on to see where the problem lies. If the HD bar is peaking in places then you may have too many tracks running.

Having said all that. I have a track that gave me that error early on in making a song and it stayed with it for the whole making of the song. It would only do it occasionally which suggested there was a bug or a fault whilste recording the problem track. Check the performance bar and see what it's upto. Press stop on Logic and click on the desktop, select 'About this computer' from the top of the Apple menu and then see how much memory you have left. If you have quite a bit then it is worth assigning more memory to Logic to see if that helps. If it has nearly run out then that may also be the problem. You machine is fast enough for lots of music and I can only think it's something i've already mentioned.

but pluggins do eat up CPU power

My experience is quite different. I find that pluggin effects and instruments use ONLY my CPU power. I have 400Mhz and some VST instruments can use 30% of that according to Cubase's performance meter. I have heard from a program developer too that RAM quantity has NO bearing whatsoever on things like effects/VST instruments and that to increase the number available for use that the processor count should be increased. I have 96MB RAM and think that is more than enough. My harddrive never struggles either! Maybe the Mac and PC are very different but surely not. I'm going to upgrade to 700MHz Duron, 7200rpm HD and no more than 128MB RAM but then maybe u right about RAM cause when I was on just 32MB sequencers crashed on me all the time. I do think though that more RAM is only good for better HARD Disk/Audio Track playback count and NOT Effects/Pluggin count?

Audio restoration - No problem

Hello JM,

simply plug the output from your tape player into the mic/line in of your soundcard and record the songs with an 'audio editor' like 'Cool Edit' or a freeware one like 'Sampled'. Once recorded you can EQ the songs to brighten them up and remove any background 'hiss'. There are specialist programs to do this like Steinberg's 'Clean' but an audio editor would do fine. Once finished with a song export it (save it) as a .wav file. Then this file needs to be burnt to a CDR disk on the CDRW drive with a CDBurning software program which may have come with the drive? If not u can find freeware examples on this sites software pages - click the link near the top of the message board page OK?

Can you suggest approprate software/shareware to buy?

I have two needs. Please suggest programs and hardware (if necessary) that can help me.
1. I want to use my computer to help me learn to sing songs for my church choir. I'm a terrible sight reader but could slowly play the notes on a keyboard. Is there a program which could:
A. (Best choice) "Read" music from a scanned in score and play back the notes?
B. (next best) Play notes that are typed into a computer keyboard (not a standard piano keyboard)?
C. Will play the notes from a score that was entered through some kind of electronic (piano) keyboard?

Second need:
I have 2500 vinyl albums that I would like to catalogue using as little data entry time as possible but giving me the maximum amount of information. Which, if any, of the cataloging software listed will allow me to create a database of my collection by downloading data that is available somewhere on the internet?
Thanks for your advice.

Re: Can you suggest approprate software/shareware to buy?

You don't want for much Stan!

OK well I can't help u with Cataloging but try some programs out as you should be able to simply cut and paste any data from pages on the net u have saved thus keeping any typing to a min.

For a Notation program which will read and play back scanned Score look at the 'Notation' section of

www.sonicspot.com

There are 10 or so programs there and I know one of them does this while all will allow u to input directly onto an onscreen score for playback via your midi voices on your soundcard.

steve

Is there anywhere that I could download an actual MiDi driver or

My brother's computer has a lot better MiDi driver than mine does, and I was wondering if anyone knew how I could either download a new driver or copy it from my brothers computer. ANy information is appreciated.

some confusion here

By 'driver' do you mean the other computer has better sounds? A driver is something which controls a device and all are usually freely available from manufacturers web sites. However if u are after better midi sounds then u will need a new soundcard not simply a new soundcard driver which would have no effect on sound quality. Each soundcard has it's own built-in sounds which cannot be replaced. An alternative to a new soundcard is a to load a 'software soundcard' like Yamaha's SY-XG50/100 which creates it's own top quality midi sounds which are used to play midi data files.

Taking out the vocals from an mp3 file

Can someone please tell me what software I need to take out vocals from a cd single I have converted to an mp3 file on my pc. And after the vocals have been taken out, will I still be able to burn it unto a CD-R.

Stream MP3 on demand

I am looking for software that will serve MP3 files on demand. I want to have 10 MP3 files on my server, and allow visitors to click on a button to listen to the MP3 of their choice. I'd like the song to start when they click the button, and not have it streaming in a continuous loop. I'm new to streaming, but have looked at Icecast. This seems to only be meant for constant streaming. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Do you know any program mp3-midi sequencer?.

I need a program, shareware, or not, big, little, it doesn´t matter, but is impossible to find a program that allow to play mp3-midi at the same time, so and mp3-midi sequencer.Exist?

Can't play audio CDs

I have two CD drives (one's a writer) and neither one will play a standard audio CD. I can write audio (cda files) on the CD-R but can't play them back. The CDs play fine in my stereo. The CD player window says "no Cd or data Cd" when I put a music CD in. Is it a driver problem for the CD drive? Everything says things are running fine (no conflicts). Running W-98.

: I have two CD drives (one's a writer) and neither one will play a standard audio CD. I can write audio (cda files) on the CD-R but can't play them back. The CDs play fine in my stereo. The CD player window says "no Cd or data Cd" when I put a music CD in. Is it a driver problem for the CD drive? Everything says things are running fine (no conflicts). Running W-98.

Download another CD player like CDrun (http://www.amberror.lt/). Try to play audio from one and then from another CD drive. If it displays "Data Disc Inserted" - then it means that your CDROM driver does not support multimedia commands. Try to reinstall your drivers or contact your vendors.

music composition software

My daughter age 15 wants a program that will allow her to create, hear, write her own compositions. Except for two years of trombone, she has no music training, is terrible at reading music; does not want to take time to learn the traditional way. She hears songs/music with harmony in her head and wants to put it down, and she wants others to be able to hear it from her computer or cd (we have a burner). I know nothing about sequencers, midi files, etc. She has an electrical keyboard which can be plugged in to the computer, but I don't know what then. Can you recommend a good software program with which she can start?
