midisoft studio

I have been using midisoft studio 6.4 for a couple of years, and am dismayed that the firm is gone. My graphics have somehow been damaged. I can find no virus in the computer, and wondered if anyone else has seen such a problem. Also, in moving, I have lost my original disk, so I'm looking for someone with a copy of 6.4 or 6.5.

Thanks

Really! I won't get mad if anyone answers my question!

Hardware info

Hello. I have bought a small pc and already have 2 midi bits of kit. Could anyone tell me what else I need to buy to make them work together?

Adaptec Spin Doctor Glitches

I have recently installed Adaptec Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.0 and I am having trouble using Spin Doctor to record from cassette tape. My system is Pentium 111, 733MHZ, 128MG RAM, 10093MG available hard drive space and a Soundblaster 128D sound card.
I shut down all other programs when attempting to record, and the recordings i have made, are essentially good, except for frequent glitches. These appear to be a type of buffer underrun. I have seen advice to limit the vcache to help control system resources and have done this without success.
As I am a novice at this and am struggling to sort this out, I would appreciate any help offered.

Re: Adaptec Spin Doctor Glitches

I do face the same problem.
It seems that the sound crack when the pitch of the
music is high. I am in the mist of trying to control
the volume of the pitch while recording from the
cassette player.
Do try it and lets share our experience.

Re: Adaptec Spin Doctor Glitches

I recorded the music from tape using the minimum
volume (1 bar) 16bit per sec, 44.1 Mhz, stereo to
my harddisk in wave format. I then burn it into the
CD-R and it works well with my Video CD. No glitches
sound.
For Adaptec spin Doctor, I seems to have problem
running it. It give me the error message 'illegal
operation'

I encounter a problem in recorded CD-R. Each song
is recorded track by track and burn to CD-R.
When I playback in Video CD, the song could not
immediately comes on. It seems to count at least
23 counts before the next sound. Therefore the
delay time is there between each song which is not
what I want. By the way I burn the tracks all together
at the same time.

Re: Adaptec Spin Doctor Glitches

When recording, what are you recording toand as? Are you recording to a WAV on your hard drive, or something else? If you're recording directly to your CD-R, maybe that's the problem. It's best to record a WAV then use another application to burn the CD. If you're recording WAV's ot the hard drive, though, I don't know what the problem would be, however.

I have the same Spin Doctor version as you, although my system isn't quite as beefy as yours. I haven't experienced any problems with it, however.

Re: Adaptec Spin Doctor Glitches

Spin Doctor works well on my Win 98 set up - I copy up to 74 mins and then it then takes 74 minutes to write the material back on to a cdr,

I am using Easy cd creator 5.

I try to select my sound card to record through and it says that it is in use by a different program. Windows 98 I assume! I would like to use my sound card, perhaps if I go into control panel and select no sounds it will work ok? Does anyone else have any ideas - it records on the first setting which is creative game card but you cannot adjust or use any correction like you can when tweaking existing files off the pc.

I would like to copy direct to cd in one motion - it means having the pc on for 2 x 74mins. But looking at some other peoples problems I am lucky.

Easy CD creator 3 was on my machine before for ages and worked well. Direct CD came up with a message which says it is not compatible with Win 98 but it worked fine.

Any ideas on how to stop the sound card using another device - also on how to write direct to cd in one motion using spin doctor?

I am currently designing my own website for my small business, and would like to place some quiet, (wordless) background music when someone clicks onto the website. How do I go around doing that?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Notation Software

Hey,
I've been looking for a notation software package for
the mac that has to fit some fairly rigid criteria:
1) Must be compatible with earlier MacOS (System 7.5 and up)
2) Must be able to read and write General MIDI
3) Must be able to play back the composition using software synthesis; no extra hardware.
4) Must be approx. $60 Canadian.

We are dealing with a cross-platform environment, and are
using Noteworthy Composer (www.ntworthy.com) for the PC,
so something comparable to that package would be ideal.

Thanks a lot,

Andrew Hankinson

How to Convert MIDI to MP3 or CD

Two of the most common questions asked on this site are, "How can I convert MIDI to MP3?" and "Can I make a music CD from MIDI files?" Both are possible, but the process can be a little complicated.

In order to make MP3 files or a music CD, the MIDI files must first be converted to WAV files. These WAV files can then be burned directly to a CD, or converted to MP3. Technically, MIDI can't be "converted," since MIDI isn't digital audio (for a fuller explanation, see MIDI and MP3: What's the Difference?). Simply stated, MIDI files have to be recorded. Luckily, there are many tools to make this easier.

Cakewalk's latest product, SONAR, can convert MIDI files to WAV using included DXi plugins. SONAR is a complete recording studio package and is well worth its $450 price, but is pretty expensive for someone who just wants to convert MIDI files.

A less expensive option is the new Band in a Box version 11, from PG Music which features "Direct-to-Disk" audio rendering. At $88, this program provides hours of enjoyment by automatically generating melodies and accompaniment. MIDI to WAV rendering is just one of its many features.

Do you want an even cheaper option? Try WAVmaker or AudioCompositor. WAVmaker is a rather complex commercial program ($49); the demo version won't work for anything but the included examples. The shareware AudioCompositor ($40 to register) works quite well if you have a good SoundFont to load into it. (SoundBlaster Live! and many other cards use SoundFonts. These are files ending in .sf2).

A no-cost way to turn a MIDI file into a WAV is to simply record it. If you have a MIDI sequencer such as Cakewalk Pro Audio, you can set two audio tracks to record while you play the MIDI tracks. (A full explanation of converting MIDI to WAV is offered by Cakewalk). If you don't have a MIDI sequencer, you will need an audio recording program to use this method. The Recorder which comes with Windows is limited to one minute of recording time, so you will need something else. Your computer or sound card may have come with a "stereo rack" program which serves the purpose. If you are serious about making audio recordings, reasonably-priced programs include Cool Edit 2000 and Sound Forge XP.

Once you have selected your audio recording program, you simply play the MIDI file while recording. Depending upon your setup, you may have to connect a cable between the sound card's output and input jacks.

The resulting WAV files can then be burned to a CD using any CD recording program, or converted to MP3 files.

Remember that WAV files are quite large, so after you have burned your CD or made your MP3 files, delete the WAV's to save space on your hard drive.

Unfortunately for Mac users, all of the software described here is for Windows only. That should change soon.

: I need help on converting MIDI files to an MP3 format. Also want to convert Quicktime file to MP3 format. What programs do I need to use? Are there any step by step instructions to assit one thru the process.

There's no easy way to go from midi -> mp3. And even if there were, it'd sound so horrible that no one would listen to your mp3.

Record the midi file on your computer as an AIFF while it plays. If your sound card's mixer won't let you do this, you may be SOL. If you have a keyboard such that you could play the midi on your keyboard and record the audio as direct sound in, this would work nicely (just watch for distortion).

Then once you have the AIFF file, use an app such as AudioCatalyst to convert it to mp3.

Cubasis Help Needed!

Hey all,
I am composing a song using Cubasis on my PC and have run into a few problems. These are listed below:
1)How can I add dymanics as well as ties and slurs when editing in Score mode?
2) How can I remove the bar numbers when in Score mode?
3) Is there any way that I can insert triplets into my composition in Score mode?
4)Can I change the time signature and the type of clef (eg. from treble clef to bass clef) in the middle of my composition in Score mode?
Any help regerding the above topics would be much appreciated. You may contact me using the above e-mail address.
Thankyou Very Much

mixing and burning

PC's have a program called "CD Architect".
I have an iMac. So I was wondering if anyone knew of a program that I could use to mix songs together and then burn them onto a CD individuallt tracked out. I can record a mix of mine into an mp3 then burn it as one track. I would like to make them all seperate tracks.

mp3 to 2 or more soundcards

Have a friend writing a playout system in vb5.
He wants to have 3 players on the screen at the same time and send the audio to any. he would be playing a song in player1 and another song in player2 (ie one in card 1 and one in card2).
It works fine with wav,s but not mp3s. it only plays from the first sound card.
With thanks for any sugestions or code

Media player conflicts

I am interested in dowloading the Global Divx player. Will this create a conflict with WMP 7 that I have. I would like to keep WMP 7 as my and default player and use Global just for divx video. Once upon a time I had a player called ICASTER and and it seemed that video files I downloaded would play on either one , like a roll of the dice, then after uninstalling ICASTER some downloads or streams would not run because it wanted the ICASTER. Thanks in advance.

i know what you mean about programs trying to take presidence over others.(sbl platinum/cubase/wmp7/ect.ect.)as you probably already know you'll maybe have to uninstall one or more of them, otherwise next time you get a suspected conflict try ctrl/alt/del and end task programs you think might be the problem. For example, when i run cubase i END TASK everything apart from explorer and systray. Then(like most women) they reappear when you reboot......

Core2

Hi, does anyone have the Core2 card. I do, and I had enough problems with it.

Re: Core2

: Hi, does anyone have the Core2 card. I do, and I had enough problems with it.

Yest, since a few weeks I own one and nothing but trouble. A short summary :
- co-existing in the same computer of Core2 and a Live!5.1 appear to be impossible during bootup of the computer.
Although there is a clumsy work around when you are interested.
- For some reason the ADAT TOSLINK input seem to be limited to 4 instead of 8, so copying via optic of 8 channels from my recorder to the PC
is still impossible.
- enabling analog + ADAT input results in just the analogs being available for MMIO applications like CoolPro.
- Lexicon customer support only reacts sofar with obvious, non solving answers,
but the same goes for the european guys of Creative.

So, anyone out there knowing more about solving the above??

Regards,

Martin
