wav files and cakewalk.

I am using a PC with a cakewalk express program.
I can save the compositions in bun.files, std files, wav.files folders etc etc. However when i try to burn them onto CD, they are not available as wav files to select, drag and drop !
What am i doing wrong ??
Do I need to mix them down to 2 track, to make them wav files ?? How do I do this ?
Awaiting a reply, a frustrated novice !

Reason VS Fruityloops

I would like any feed back regarding the comparison of these two software based work stations. If any one considers one better than the other and why. I have played with both demos and although I really like (Propellerheads)Reason. I was pleasantly surprised with the fruityloops program. Are there any major quirks that would make one more appealable than the other?

Thanks,

J.

Re: Reason VS Fruityloops

nice comparison rarextacy..very helpful! :D

Re: Reason VS Fruityloops

Well, I have both Reason AND Fruityloops

First starting out last year with Fruityloops I quickly found it to be a wonderful lil program, doing what others just could not do..

Basically, its a full Loops sampler.

meaning you can make a drum beat.. then along in your loop add a completely different drum beat, edit it any way you want, and make it sound as if you are just changing beats all through the entire song without people thinking oh, he's using a drum machine with the same loop.

programs can do this, but they have made it so hard to do.. you usually end up with one beat pattern and it plays over N over through the song unless you know how to sit and do a pattern over N over to get it right..

I recently Bought reason, and was blown away at first when I made a lil tune in less than 1 hour that rivaled what I had been able to do in fruityloops..

BOTH of them lack something.. fruityloops to me lacks the ability to create an entire sequenced song.. yes I can make beats like no other with it, and loop over N over.. but i can't really make anything as original as I would like due to the lack of MIDI keyboarding.. I cannot press record on fruity loops and have it record the notes from my keyboard.. but I hear FL3 has this feature. if it does, that would be nice. but fruityloops will have the ultimate tool in the industry if they could just create a top of the line sequencer that can edit both MIDI keyboard notes and the Loop patterns you create. they would also need a good software synth engine with a good number of sounds.

Reason is on the verge of this. they created a wonderful tool that does it all and has a decent sequencer.. But the lack of instruments, and the lack of creativity in the drum department is a let down.. - I mean I can create some great songs with this program, But in the end i am constantly struggling with the ReDrum-Drum-machine.

I mean its nice to create loops with if you can make up a nice instrumental section.. but if you want shift changes, pans, and things like this, then fruityloops is on top of that.

SO in the end I am choosing reason.
Because it has all modules necessary to just sit and make up a nice piece.

with fruityloops, I had to use 2 additional programs just to get the result I get from REASON.

Reason has all the modules needed to create a nice sounding CD quality track that wowed my friends more than some of the things I made in Fruityloops.

But with no doubt I have created a ton of songs in fruityloops just because of the sheer drum power it has. If I can find a way to imitate the drum power of fruityloops in reason, I will be on my way.

Final review:

Fruityloops - Great for making LOOPS, techno/rap type sounds. but lack of MIDI keyboard Input and good full loop and Midi sequencer make this a very good program but not the best it can be..

Reason - Great for composing and letting your creative juices flow. But lack of creativity in drum department and lack of instrument sounds leave a bit to be desired.

I have a feeling Both companies will be trying their hardest to make a cakewalk based computer sequencer with all the bells N whistles of full studio hardware.

Frankly even tho I spent 300+ on reason,

I think Fruityloops can win if they can adopt cakewalks midi type keyboard sequencing..
with a good software synth engine..

once you can play your keyboard freely in fruityloops instead of using a mouse to make notes, - limitations will no longer exist.. within that program.

RareXtacy..

Re: Reason VS Fruityloops

my opinions-

fruityloops attempts to catter for every possible musical desire while reasons more hardware orientated design has various limitations that are designed to favourably influence the creative flow (ie the virtual control voltages).

some people like to have lots of options at every stage of production while others (like myself) like realistic limitations that you can work around as this can help some people focus their ideas without getting distracted by other possibilitys.

any comments?

Re: Reason VS Fruityloops

FL has proven accurate sample timing, Reason has proved to fail the test. Bottom Line.

HELP ME!!!!!

Re: How do I convert MP3 to MIDI format

Yes, but it might not sound any good. Just convert the Mp3 to WAV and then get a program like WAV2MID or WaveGoodbye. Hope that helps...

Creating Sheet Music on a Mac

I have a situation where my choir director will not let me use Acc. Tracks when singing at church. She perfers live instruments. The problem is finding sheet music for some of the songs that I have tracks for. Sheet music either doesn't exist or is in the wrong key. Is there a way to either take a sound file and generate sheet music or take a scanned copy of sheet music and generate a digital file that can be transposed & printed? I realize I'm asking for the moon, but I had to try. Thanks for ANY help you can give.

abomination to sofware music creation

Techno/Dance ejay are the most retarted things i have ever seen you press like 10 buttons and youve got a techno song. only problem is that everyone can make the exact same song in 2 min. this only fuels the people that say software synths and composers are for no talents.

Re: abomination to sofware music creation

No way. Not at all. It's how you use the software that counts. My first attempts were absolutely terrible, but I got better. You learn stuff like layering sounds, playing with beats and fucking up samples. I think that people who knock people who use the software are just making a generalisation and are probably trying to put themselves on a pedestal to make up for their own lack of esteem.

Re: tape hiss

Acoustica is an audio editor with a good noise reduction feature. WavClean is also very good and simple to use. Cool Edit pro has good hiss reduction. Raygun is a DirectX plug in for hiss and noise reduction, very nice. Download some demos from this site and try them out. There's a lot available.

I don't know if this'l help but it might be worth a look. Try going to CDRWIN @ goldenhawk.com, or Clonecd, then conduct a search. Good luck.

Re: RECORDING STREAMING AUDIO

That's how i'd do it anyway.

Clicks in audio recordings

Can anybody help me?

I tried to record analog audio input through my (on-board) ESS solo sound card, 16bit 44,1 KHz PCM format.

I used WavelabLight and GoldWave. I always got lots of clicks in the recording. Lowering the rate down to 8kHz did not change very much. Changing any other settings didn't do much, either.

Interestingly, when I used the simple Sound Recorder in Win2k, everything worked perfectly, however this recorder always stops after 1min. :-(

Any idea what i could do?

Michael

I Need A Cool Recording Program For Guitar

I Need some kinda sound recording program for my Guitar. I've Plugged it through my Mic Plug at the back of my PC and it works. So I Just Need some kinda program to record the sounds and mix them.
Thanks

Re: I Need A Cool Recording Program For Guitar

If all you want to do is record the guitar, then an audio editor like Syntrillium's Cool Edit 2000. You can also get a 4-track plug-in for it. Other than that, you can just use a program like Goldwave to record a guitar track.

Mixing mp3s

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

Is there utilities which let u save mix's you make of your mp3s?

Re: Mixing mp3s

: Is there utilities which let u save mix's you make of your mp3s?

Try AtomixMP3, The trial version is great, mixes of YOUR OWN MUSIC are saved as wav. files which can then be burnt onto CD! I don't know the address to down load from, but a simple search for 'AtomixMp3' ought to get you to the right site, GOODLUCK.

Re: Mixing mp3s

There are quite a few. Some of them require that you register the program before you can save. There are quite a few useful programs in the DJ/Remix section. MixVibes is one such program that might be worth a go.
