pro Tool free recording question

I'm trying to record from vinyl. My turntable (has a preamp is plugged into a Creative Labs Live Platinum sound card. I can hear the music playing over the speakers, but can't get Pro Tools Free to recognize or record sound.

Any and all help will be appreciated

Winamp help needed

I am running Windows ME with most recent update of
media player. The playback of cd's is terrible so I
have been using Winamp with good results, at least
until I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled all
programs. I now have no sound when playing cd's in
Winamp. MP3's play fine. All controls are unmuted. I
still have audio when playing cd's through media player
so I'm at a loss as to why there is no sound when try-
ing to play cd's. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

checking for bad mp3s

Does anyone know of an app that can scan an mp3 to check to see if it's good/complete and doesn't skip (without having to play it)? I download a lot of mp3s (too many to listen to right away) and after I burn them, I find that they were damaged in the first place.
Please email me directt if you can help.

Cakewalk Scorewriter convertor

Anyone know if there is anything on the market which will allow conversion from scorewriter format to something a bit more portable such as NIFF or ABC.
Lack of common standards in music notation software is a real pain!

Need some help with Reason??

Can anyone help me change the program so that it loads the last song that you were working on, instead of the default song... I did it once but I have since formatted my hard drive..

burning cd's

how do i burn a kareoke cd that will show the graphics along playing the music

Re: burning cd's

: how do i burn a kareoke cd that will show the graphics along playing the music

Hola Step, If you wanna burn CD-G (Karaoke) i think it's known as you'll need something like goldenHawk CDR-Win (Can d-load) a Shareware 1x version form their site www.goldenhawk.com But also you'll need a CD-R Burner That supports this special format (I know the HP ones used to) You can check which Cd-R's will do this o Golden Hawkz Site (There's a list there i think) Hope this helps, Peace JOy and Thee doves @ JOycorp x

keyboard attachment

hi,
sir, i dont know how to use a midi compatible keyboard with computer, and i added too that i dont know use of software synthesizer and record atrack ,i have acreative vibra 128 sound card, give me advice soon
Thanking You
CHANDRESH<india>

While were taliking 'bout keyboards...

Does anyone know where I can buy that damn cable w/ MIDI plugs on one and Sound Card (joystick) plug on the other. I know you can buy them in europe in every damn store and here in Canada I can't find them. GRRRR!!!!

Re: keyboard attachment

It depends on what type of keyboard you want to attach. Some MIDI keyboards connect directly to the soundcard through the joystick port. Others, which only have MIDI ports (five-pin DIN connector) need a proper MIDI interface.

HIT SQUAD "ODYSSEY CONTEST" CHEATS

2 days before the end of the "odyssey" contest--Hitsquad decides to change in "mid-stream" and EXTEND the closing date of the contest. Since the beginning--(May 1st)--EVERYONE knew the contest would conclude on May 31st---now-- just 2 days before the end of this "contest"--Hitsquad decides to extend The deadline to June 8th----------THATS A BUNCH OF BULL !! This is a VERY UNFAIR practice to change the rules in "mid-stream"!! I--as well as MANY others--have been working ourselves to death promoteing this contest-- and ALL knew it was to end on May 31st.....for AN ENTIRE MONTH WE ALL KNEW--and now--- just 2 days before it ends---someone decides-- "Hey--Lets extend the deadline" ?? YOUR creditability is SHOT as a site if your proceed with this----you have done the Artist ( the people who BUY from you)as well as yourselves a GREAT DISERVICE and have literally CHEATED people of their HARD WORK----i am sooo disappointed in what surely will be termed CHEATSQUAD in the future. Musicians Friend Corporate will most certainly be hearing about this---it BAD publicity for THEM----how DARE YOU PEOPLE change the rules---not to mention just 2 days before the conclusion of the supposed "contest" ??----where even the ARTIST themselves have no idea as to how they are proceeding in the voteing. 450 entrants times the HUNDREDS of contacts they each have--will surely make a negitive impact for your site when the news travels around---and believe me--it WILL travel. Creditabilty is EVERYTHING on the internet--and when you conduct yourself otherwise--you lose TRUST---you lost TRUST--you lose traffic--and as an internet site-- you loose traffic-- and you fold.

Re: HIT SQUAD "ODYSSEY CONTEST" CHEATS

Hello Ronald

I have read the emails you have sent and found some good ideas that might be incorporated into future competitions.

We extended the competition to overcome the problem that some votes weren't counted due to an emergency server re-location, so the competition was extended to make it fairer for everyone.

Some peoples' ISPs sent them to the old server because their ISPs hadn't updated their own DNS server. That was something which was beyond Hitsquad's control. And we thought it would be fair to extend the contest accordingly.

If anything, we are giving you and your fellow entrants a further opportunity to get more votes. Additionally, we are giving you an extended opportunity to promote your music via the world's largest music software site - which receives over a million visitors a month.

All votes for songs will be processed at the end of the competition. If everyone knew the votes throughout, there wouldn't be much excitement left when the winner was announced if everyone already knew who had won - kind of spoils the fun.

The rules of entry - <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/2001/entryform.shtml">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/2001/entryform.shtml</a> - are specifically designed to allow us to make any changes we deem necessary to ensure the best and fairest possible result.

25. Shareware Music Machine and Hitsquad.com reserves the right to cancel this competition, or amend the rules, at any time.

We do all this for free, no-one pays, there are no entrant fees. We simply do this for fun and to help NEW artists.

I am open to suggestions for future competitions. Please email me if you have any ideas you'd like to put forward.

Warm regards
Geoff Nicholson

Re: CD ripper and wav to mp3 converter software for Winodows 9X/

I agree. Although I have an shareware version and I had a little bug (probably caused by my system) because it would throw out a message 'Illegal Operation' when Alto is working while some other Appl. is on at the same time. But reinstalling helped solve the problem.

: How can I connect & play my MIDI keyboard to/in Cubase?

: Please help me as you can see I'm a beginner!!

first need to know what kind of keyboard you have
if your not using a cracked ver of cubase
on your disk is a folder called library
you need to set up a studio module and add the one for your keyboard
you can find others mods at cubase.net
maybe your problem is connection then you need a adapter to your joystivk port to midi cable

Maybe you could help me...

I have triton and Cubase, and I connect the cables to my SBlive, but I can't seem to be able to get it to work.
I have HAlion and wish to have my Triton controlling samples loaded to HAlion.

I would appreceate any help you could provide.

Thanks in advance,
Eyal

MIDI keyboard in Cubase

I have a midi keyboard and I want to play it in Cubase VST, and how can I play my own patches???

Re: MIDI keyboard in Cubase

Dear Patrick,
Altough your question is not very precise, but i will try to give some answers.
First it depends on what sort of Keyboard you have. Then it depends on the soundcard.
I assume you have your Keybord conncted to the soundcart with MIDI- cable and all drivers installed, especially the MPU and the Joystick Driver that were delivered with your Soundcard.
After having started Cubase you should first visit the "Options" menue and make sure that " MIDI Thru" is activated.
Then look at the left side of the Song window, to audio and midi track selection.Select a midi channel (Channel 1 for Piano or Channel 10 for Drums) and the midi in/out port you Keyboard is connected with. Most soundcards offer 1 or 2 ports, in most cases only one of them is a fully working "Midi in/out" interface. The best best way to find out the appropriate one, is to select them one after the other while playing something with the Keyboard.
Now you should be able to play the wavetables on your soundcard.
If you want to play your Keybord patches it is more difficult, it depends on the type of Keyboard, ist it a Masterkeybd.? Is it a Workstation ? Is ist a simple controller with a few patch banks ? Does it have On - board Speakers ?
If you tell me a little bit more about the Instrument, i will maybe able to help you better. Simply post a "Re:" to this article, i will read it.
Good Luck so far

Klaus

Cakewalk V8 on Pentium 166 Windows98 64Mb

Hi, I sometimes have the problem with Cake that when recording a track (wave), it doesn't replay the midi-drums in time with one pre-recorded audio-track.
How come?
Does anyone have the same problem?

Another problem, less irritating: during recording of an audio-track Cake 'hangs'. It sometimes quits recording the track.
Familiar?

HELP - How to Record from Cassette to Hard disk???

COuld someone suggest how I can record from Audio cassette player / walkman to hard disk? Can I simply plug in the sound output cord from the player/walkman into the mic-port of the sound card?

Re: HELP - How to Record from Cassette to Hard disk???

Yes. It's as simple as that. Then, get hold of a decent package to record the audio as a WAV file. Then, if you want to save space, convert the WAV file to an MP3.

I use Cool Edit 96 to record sounds to WAV format then CDex to convert WAV to MP3

Andy

Re: HELP - How to Record from Cassette to Hard disk???

I read the original question, and I read the comment below, but I can't find what came between - It's as simple as WHAT? I called Radio Shack and they said I need an inexpensive cable that goes from my cassette player to my computer. Is there anything else I need to know?
Thanks much in advance,
Jen

Cool Edit, recording input only with a backing track playing?

Hi all,
Im hoping someone out there can help, I use cool edit pro. When puttingh songs together I want to be able to playback my guitar track and drum track and lay a vocal over on a separate track, what annoys me is that I can figure out how I can play the other tracks with them recording onto the new track Im inputting to.Typically I set the playing tracks as low as possible so the recording track only picks up a little of them....surely there is a way that I can play back the other tracks while recording and just record the input from the mic without the backing tracks.

Any help is very much appreciated
Keep it real, keep it free,
Trev

Re: Cool Edit, recording input only with a backing track playing

Hi Trev,

i think that this is not so much a problem with your sequencing software, but with your soundcard and the mixer it uses. First of all, this can only work at all, if your soundcard supports hardware based "Full Duplex" mode, that means, you must have two independent audio channels available. If it does not, i am afraid you have to achieve a new one.If it does, you have to make sure that you are using the analog "line in" when recording and not "stereo mixer in" or "what you hear", or however the Function might be called in your case, that records the signals, that the MPU on your Soundcard emulates.
But again, first of all you should have a look to the user manual of your souncard to find out about the "Duplex mode".
I hope this helps. If not we will have to take a closer look to the specifications of your soundcart.

Good luck, hope to hear from you again,

Klaus

Re: Cool Edit, recording input only with a backing track playing

Klaus,
Many thanks for your help, I'll check out the Duplex capability and let you know how I get on.

By the by, I think it's well cool the way folks help each other out here...hopefully I can be of assistance to somebody when I get more familiar with all my gear!

All the best Buddy,
