I know next to nothing about MIDI ... but I reckon it should be possible play your MIDI song, connect the soundcard output to the input little stereo cable) and record it as a Wave file ... from which you can compress to MPEG ... if it works I'll give me a little silver star ...

If you have a duplex soundcard you can load your midi file into Massiva and record the sound. There is a tutorial on the website that shows you how to do it.
Beat information from MP3's
Hello all,
Does anyone know of any software around that can determine the rhythm of a particular MP3? (It would be abolutely ideal if it then exported this information into, say an excel spreadsheet.) In a perfect world this would be a plugin for winamp or some similar mainline MP3 player.
The reason for this is,...
I'm sure I'm not the only person here who samples their records straight into the computer and experiments with possible mixes (and entire sets) at home,...with this software i could find out within seconds whether two tunes have a BPM close enough to be able to work with,...
Thinks about it, it automatically gets the information everytime you play a tune - any tune - now that would be handy !!
If anyone knows of such a product or is a whizz kid programmer PLEASE MAIL ME DIRECT - I can hardly sneak on to the net at work and my phone line at home is ALWAYS busy (women eh!!)

Problem with Cool Edit 2000
Recording music is no problem. My problem is in getting the music recorded to CDR. Instructions don't tell me how to do this. Can I get a more precise description (step by step) on how this is to be done?

Guess what? There is no CD burning program included with Cool Edit. There are however many programs available to do this Adaptec makes one of the best.
Mixing MP3 files (in stereo!)
I'm looking into the world of MP3 mixing... I've tried Virtual Turntables, which is very good, but it works on the principle of splitting a stereo output onto the left and right channels.
You end up with a mono output on the speakers, and on the headphones too - this is necessary for judging whether the beats are in sync, but I'd like to mix in stereo... Can anyone recommend a better program to mix with? (I have a Soundblaster Live 5.1, with separate headphone and speaker outputs)

I doubt u can do that...well, talk to Ensoniq about that, they'd be the ones to ask. The ASR-10 format is exclusive I think...good luck!

Howdy!
I'm new to the whole technology thing and I could use a little help. Is it possible for me to burn onto cd something that I can listen to on real player but cannot save? It's a concert that I would like to have on cd, but I cannot figure out how to transfer it to a burn-able file. Does this make any sense to anyone? I'd really appreciate some help!!

I think you mean that you downloaded the file from the internet and it automaticlly started in your real player, and now you cant save it to harddrive. And when you exit real P. you have to load it again. ??
I´m not sure real P. saves the file somewhere on the drive, so skip that.
The trick is to use a download manager, like gozilla , flashget etc. Just copy the link and paste it in your dl Manager, done...

Hey! Thanks for the tip....I downloaded gozilla and now it's running, but I don't think it's downloading the music. I found out yesterday that it's a streaming .ram file if that makes any more sense. Does gozilla work on those or do I need something else?

Hopefully gozilla is downl. the ram file all together. So you will get a *.ram file on your disk that you can run any time in real P.
The *.ram file you will get is movie and music in one, I hope, that you then can burn.
need help
hi can anyone help me here. I got a technics KN1600 keyboard and having problems connecting to my computer. i got the midi cable and connected it to the joystick port and switch to pc2 on the keyboard and is still not working. I am using cakewalk pro 9,cooledit and pro tools(all demos version).is there any way. Please help me here.....Thanks

Does anybody know where i can get a free download of music time or similar program? I'm just looking for a midi program that allows you to write stuff out in standard notation and has some good percussion sounds like timpani, djembe, maracas, anything like htat. Thanks a lot

so it didnt run in media player

You need RealPlayer, version 8.0 is the latest. Check out www.real.com, and download RealPlayer Basic (which is free).

OK The problem here is everything is just a little too clinical. If you ask a question, first tell a little about yourself, your setup, just something, to make it real. This isn't the answer machine, there's gotta be some give and take. Question is, are machines using us or are we using them? You may think it sounds like science fiction BUT checkout a transform inside of Cool Edit Pro called Brain Wave Synchronizer also available as a stand alone but I forget what it's called. SB Live 5.1 how do I get my fender guitar to play....lost
I've searched the manual....Creative's web site...all the local stores...well I'm in alaska...I've tied button after button on my new Sound Blaster Platinum Live 5.1...nothing...{ Played for 45 years but new with computers.......would really appreciate help...Thanks...Pauli

You can plug your guitar into the line-in 2/mic input but it will sound crap. You really need to go into a pre-amp first or from the line-out of your amp. Apparently the Line-6 Pod is a wicked pre-amp, you can set it to emulate Marshall/Fender amps ect and simulate different speaker cabinets.
I forget to add..
To check if your card is connected properly, take off the little black cap from the 'Optical out', you should see a red light when you boot your computer, if there isnt, chances are the power cable to your soundcard is loose/disconnected..

VST Instruments in Cakewalk?
Does anyone know if there is any way to get VST instruments to work in Cakewalk Pro Audio 8. I know how to get VST effects plugins to work with VST Wrapper lite, but can't get Instruments to work.
Help W/T Audio in CWPA9.03
I can't hear ANY audio in Cakewalk PA9.03 even though I have no problems hearing audio in AOL, Micro.Media Player, MicroLogic AV or Winamp. I've tried every setting change I can think of without results. I am using a Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum Sudio sound card running on an AMD K6II with 128 MEGs of RAM. I am SO stumped. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton for your time and attention. Have a great day! =0)

Have you come across a setting in the Cakewalk menus that says Audio : Advanced settings ? Cakewalk may not have defaulted naturally to your sound card. In your Device Manager in the Control Panel, does it look like you have more than one soundcard setting available to you on your computer ? What sort of things have you done in Cakewalk ? Have you recorded sound into it, or are you trying to deal with the MIDI component of it ? Do you fully understand how to use a Multitrack recording software package ? I'm not trying to be a smartarse about it but obviously only you know the answer to these questions. Multitrack software may not be as straighforward as stereo recording software packages.
