Re: Looking for Musicware's Piano course 4

I have been looking for Courses 2 and 3. Can you help?

Hey...can I send you an example of what I'm trying to do cause I'm having some trouble (email address maybe?). Maybe it's not possible and I've gotten as far as I could...don't know. Dave

Of course you can...

And thanks for asking first!! If you send it to my email address (provided) then I will download and take a look at it. I think these things are generally very hard to do but I will try and do something OR give advice...

Look forward to it

I tried sending it to you, but it said it was to big (mp3 zipped). Any ideas? Dave

Don't bother with the zip...

I wouldn't bother with the zip as it's compressed as much as it will go with the MP3 codec.

Send me a normal message and I will send you another email address that 'will' work, or we will have to sort out an online drive for the purpose....

Speak soon.

mixing/running multiple sound programs on sb16

I'm playing a show in the near future and am unfortunately stuck with only one computer. It has windows98, and a sb16. I was wondering if there was a way that I could mix sound programs, so I don't have to stop/start when a track ends. My primary program is Buzz Tracker. If I could mix it with CEP or SF that would be fine. Thanks.

Crop

What does someone mean when they say, "Crop the loop in both windows"? Rob

Re: Crop

: What does someone mean when they say, "Crop the loop in both windows"? Rob

It might depend on which software the advice is referring to.

Cropping generally refers to cutting off the unnecessary
bits at the start and end of the wave.

"In both windows" could be referring to the left and
right sides of stereo if the software puts them in
separate windows as some wave editors do.

Jason.

Re:

The standard CD format is .CDA. You need to get a DAE (Digital Audio Extraction) program in order to make them .WAV. You can find some in the downloads section.

Help with jazz piper software wanted!!

I own a jazz piper portable mp3 player..I was very happy with the product but now it seems I can't change the songs in its internal memory...Everytime I try to connect the mp3 player by clicking on the "connect" button in the jazz piper desk(the software), my computer RESETS it self!! I tried reinstalling the software být it did not work..I did not have this problem before and perhaps this is due to some settings change in the windows ports that I am not aware of, rather than a problem with the software? I will be very pleased if anyone can help..Thank you!

Re: Help with jazz piper software wanted!!

Did you go thru the manual? if u did no do so it may be helpful.
First try to tweek the ECP/EPP settings in the CMOS setup if that doesnt work you could uninstall the Jaz piper software run regedit and delete all the "jazPiper" entries by doing a manual find and delete(if any were not removed during automatic uninstallation ).
Now reinstall the jaz piper software.
Check the cable is firmly connected.

I had exactly the same problem with midi, wav. and mp3. files although it played cds. The SBLive Play centre continued to play them fine. I spent weeks trying to sort it, and in the end I decided to format the hard disk and rebuild the computer (
I know this is drastic, but the computer was in need of an overhaul). Since then it has worked fine with all the same software and hardware. I think there is some hidden glitch - if you find out what it is let me know.

Re:

Cakewalk uses specific midi settings [midi out port(XXX)], goto your sound card's midi options (can't remember the exact name, sorry), and choose the midi out you saw in cakewalk...

From Opcode's Musicshop to...?

I love Musicshop, but I’ve outgrown it.
I’ve been looking around for some more powerful software.
For some reason, Protools and Metro4.5 don’t seem to recognize
Musicshop’s midi files as midi files.
Studiovision(Opcode) could read the Musicshop files, but I wasn’t really satisfied with the software and the would like to get with something that has tech support and a future.
I need to incorporate audio into the midi stuff I’ve done on Musicshop. Is there anyone else out there that started in Musicshop and can recommend something?
Ideally, I would like software that emphasizes midi rather than recording a live band simultaneously ( my impression of protools). Also, (although I’m starting to doubt that in the world of you “serious” musicians anyone offers this), I would like to have the possibility of displaying the different color tracks of midi superimposed on top of each other in the “Piano roll” (as in Musicshop) rather than lined up underneath each other (as in Studiovision, Metro, and protools)
I appreciate any advice you can give.

What are Soundfonts?

This is just kind of a language question. I've heard a lot of people talk about soundfonts but I'm not familiar with that term. What are they?

I already know a lot about midi and recording so be as technical as you want in your explainations.

Thanks,
Mike H.

How to Split a big AVI/MPG file into separate smaller yet indivi

I would like to know how to split a large AVI/MPG file of tens to hundreds of megabytes into smaller parts which can still be played individually.

Thanks for any helpful advice !!!

Re: How to Split a big AVI/MPG file into separate smaller yet in

You should find something in the Video Section of this site.

Something like ULead will do the job very well.

Do You Want Pop-Up Ads on Hitsquad? - Vote Here

Hello,

I am the CEO here at Hitsquad - that's a pompous way
of saying that I'm the musician who came up with the
idea for this web site back in 1994.

As you have probably already noticed, there have been
an increasing number of Pop-Under ads on this site in
recent times and there is a lot of pressure for
Pop-Up ads to be included as well.

Why?

It's for the same reason that big web sites like
Yahoo and Cnet have been running these ads lately
too - because we no longer get enough income from
banner ads to keep this site going. If we don't
find a way to replace this lost income then this
site will be gone, either that or sold to some big
multinational company that might not care about
music or musicians.

There is one other possibility though - we've come
up with the idea of a Hitsquad membership for a
small monthly fee which would include such things as:

Special access to a NO Banner, NO Pop-Up, NO Pop-Under version of this site

A newsletter printed on old fashioned paper and posted to you once per month

A free CD-Rom included with the newsletter containing all the latest music software and some other goodies

Special member only discounts from music equipment retailers

So what do you think?

Let me know if you feel we should keep the banners
and pop-unders or close the site down for everyone,
or keep this free site here and offer the kind of
special memberships described above.

Or perhaps you have a better idea.

I'm looking forward to seeing your replies...

Jason Horton (Hitsquad member #1:)

Tramadol

really?

Monthly Fee vs. Pop-ups

I think that it's an amazing idea. All features of the site should be open to everyone. Non-members will hit your ads and bring in revenue. People with memberships would make up for the money not being made by them seeing ads with their membership fee. As far as the CD goes, I have a molasses connection speed, so to get the files mailed to me would be great! Maybe you could even work something out with the companies to make purchasing full versions cheaper for members. You have my support, 100%.

that we are working on your suggestion already.

Re: Do You Want Pop-Up Ads on Hitsquad? - Vote Here

I HATE pop-ups, however they are a small inconvenience if they are what keeps the site free.

- Corbin

Re:

Since I like to seek for solutions instead of complaining, I'll repeat myself in more words:

Instead of pop-ups you could fill the right half of the screen with ads & place the menu on the top as scrolling menus.
It would take a while to load the site on slow connections (like mine), but the ads would be on the user's cache after that(if you have to, you could place more over them after a reasonable ammount of time).

Maby the above idea is dumb, but since sites can't survive without them (I've seen half a dozen go down due to sponsor's financial cuts), that's my ideal solution for now...

PopUps on Hitsquad??

Why does it seem like anything combining the Internet and music ends up under financial duress?? First Napster, now the Hitsquad??
Who's next??

If ads are necessary, POSTUM!!!

Have a noteworthy day...

Re: Do You Want Pop-Up Ads on Hitsquad? - Vote Here

Pop-ups are evil and obnoxious, and they crash your browser. I'd probably have to stop coming here as often if there were hordes of pop-ups (because we all know you can't eat just one....).

Hi Anne,

It would be a real shame if you couldn't come here
as often as you would like because membership isn't
an option for you and you don't want to be overloaded
with pop-ups.

We are trying to limit the number of pop-ups and
pop-unders you see each visit by setting cookies
in your browser so that our web server knows if it
has already shown you your fair share of these each
time you visit.

Cheers,
Jason.

Pop up adds really relevant to the item being read are maybe a good idea.

Pop up adds irrelevant are a pain in the butt.

Hi David,

We would like all the ads to be completely relevant
however in the current market you simply can't dictate
terms to advertisers - if someone selling a web camera
wants to promote it on Hitsquad we really have to say
"Yes - Thank you very much".

Cheers,
Jason.
