Need help

When ever I burn a cb I can not
get it to ply on some cd player.

Is there any software that can
help me.

Please give me an answer
Thank you.

CD Colour

Every laser is designed to read cd's using light at a certain wavelength. CDs absorb light of different colours and reflect what they do not absorb. White CDs reflect all the light, and can almost always be read. Blue-bottom CDs reflect blue (that's why blue is visible) but absorb red. Red laser light is absorbed. So the laser is not reflected and you can't read the CD. The secret to getting the CD to play in all machines is to use either GOLD or WHITE bottomed CDs.

Re: Need help

This is probably down to the CD player. Some can't play CD-R
discs because it wasn't designed to. Unfortunately, the only
cure is to buy a newer CD player that can.

Yamaha RM1x & A3000 question

I have a Yamaha RM1x, and I want to expand my sound by picking up a Yamaha A3000 sampler. I would like to know how hard it is to have all of my drums, instruments etc. on the RM1x assigned to play samples on the A3000 as apposed to the RM1x's own sounds.
I love sequencing, but I don't know much about midi. Anyone please help by e-mailing me directly!
Thanks!

Just quickly then...

When people ask to be replied to via their Email, I always assume they are one of the many people that come here, post a message and never return to read any replies that someone may have spent ages typing, just for them... If this is the case with the message it will explain the short reply.

Yes you can do it. Just set the Midi receive channel on the A3000's voice to the same channel the RM1x is transmitting from. Different drum sounds will represent different notes played on that midi channel and therefore transposing the drums note will change the midi note number, hence the note on the sampler.

Just plug it in and play something on the RM1x and the sampler will more than likely go for it..

Re: how do u convert WMA files into WAV?

Go to http://wind.prohosting.com/danny187
There is a program that will unprotect wma files allowing you to convert them to Mp3 or wav files.

As far as converting CDA's to wav using adaptec, I have the same software and what I did was open Adaptec and opened the drive that the cd is in right-clicked on a song and selected "Extract" after the song has been extracted you can use a converter such as dbpoweramp and convert it to wav.

7200 mac + audio...???

how should I configurate my old 7200 to deal with audio recording in the most perfect way...?? (what extensions are needed/which are not etc...) I am using different audio editing software, Cubase VST and Logic.

thanks a lot!

7200...!

It has to be said that the 7200 is a bit of an old bird these days. I am sure it's the perfect Midi studio but I doubt it will be up for a lot of Audio tracks whilst trying to run logic in with a small amount of memory. I am not trying to put you off as I used a 6400/200 for some time with Logic 3.5 and it managed a decent 11 tracks of audio with a couple of plugins and Eq's. I would be happy with the machine as is with the possible inclusion of a PCI audio card (although that will drain system resources). I wouldn't get anything too expensive unless you plan to take it with you if you buy yourself a faster mac in the future. Something that will increase the quality of the audio input/output would do.

As far as extensions go, I wouldn't worry too much about that. The Mac audio manager is very efficient at looking after itself and shouldn't need tampering with. Optimising the HD (norton utilities, etc...) is a good move as fragmentation slows down access times which will reduce the audio playback and recording efficiency.

Make sure you have a decent amount of space on your HD for the audio and make sure you have as much memory as you can afford to give to logic. I wouldn't go past Logic 3.5 on the 6400 so I doubt you would be able to run anything newer without draining the much needed system resources. If you look around, you can get some cheap used G3 upgrade boards for the 7200 which would increase performance of processor tasks although remember that the HD will remain at the same speed as will the system buss.

Other than that, enjoy what you get out of it as a bare machine although consider an audio card.

Still don't get my Reason to work with VST

Its making me nuts- I cant get my Reason-application to work with VST 5,0. I think i should make some changes in the mme-dialog-box- but i'm not sure how it works. Is there someone out there with similar experience.......?

Re: Still don't get my Reason to work with VST

which revision of VST 5.0 do you own? As i believe that r2 has problems with reWire.
If so, go get the latest patch from steinberg. SHOULD fix this.

win2k, sb live, j-station midi problem

Hi,

Here's my problem: I have Windows 2000 Pro with SP2, SoundBlaster Live Value with latest drivers. Works fine EXCEPT for...

I have a Johnson J-Station that has a midi port, and I'm supposed to be able to control the J-Station's settings via software that talks thru the midi port. When I hook up the J-Station to the midi port on the SoundBlaster Live Value, and try to run the software, the software crashes as it's trying to read the J-Station's data.

Everything works fine under WinME, so I know the sound card H/W is fine, I know I have the cables hooked up right, and I know the software works fine (at least under WinME).

I contacted Johnson (apparently actually Digitech) and they gave me some lame answer that there's an issue with the SoundBlaster Live Value's midi port under Windows 2000. But I can't find any reference anywhere (including on Creative's site) to such a problem, so I'm wondering if Johnson/Digitech just made that up to cover for the fact their software kinda blows?

Please don't say re-install the soundblaster software/drivers. I've done that till I'm blue in the face. I've also installed this on a clean Win2000 system and have the same problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

mr. ralphtone

Does anyone have the definitive answer to this question?

How do you separate a music cd into tracks (with no listening gaps, i.e an electronica dance cd)? instead of having one track that's an hour long? If you've done this, please recommend software. Thank you very very much. :)

it's not that hard, just

You just need to create separate files for the songs, then load them into a CD-recording program in the order that you like.
learn how to do this, and you'll be done.

You are obviously trying to copy the CD as it plays. This is not how CD's are ripped. You need to load the CD you want to copy into your CD-ROM drive, then extract the songs using a program.

good luck

Re: Does anyone have the definitive answer to this question?

What audio format is this hour-long track? WAV? If so, try CD Wave Editor, if MP3 format go here. Then you have to burn the CD in DAO mode to eliminate the silence gap between tracks. Look for the support of this in your CD burning software.

ME THE DUMB III

Final question then ... Is it possible to raise the vocals on a track so that you can hear mainly the vocals? Brian

Only if:

Only if the frequency used by the vocals contains no other instruments --> Or else raising the vocal levels will also raise the level of the instruments in that range. the secret is to use PART of the vocal frequency range - the part that has the least amount of instruments in it, filtering out the other stuff, then throwing a whole lot of background music onto it so tht no one can hear the other old instruments behind it.

1. Use a parametric bandbass filter
2. Use a small tight curve with a steep slope (so that sound gets cut as you move from the center of the filter at a fast rate)
3. Sweep the centre of the filter through the vocal range until you cut out most of the instruments.
4. print the result as a new wav.
5. Sync the new file to the old, mute the old.
6. Add backing tracks.

I'm fairly new to this stuff but it's coming along slowly. I've been reading on eq's and freq's and it's coming together. Just wondering if you can show me a visual on what your explaining at the top, if you please. Brian

Yamaha burner problem.

Hi, I have a Tekram dc315U adapter card adn just bought a Yamaha CRW2100S burner. I burnt few CDs perfectly but somehow suddenly it doesnt recognize any blank CDs. all prorams recognize the burner just fine but each blank CD (any brand) I put just doesnt work..
any ideas?

thanks.

........

I have a crudy old Yamaha 4416 that barely works at all now. I have always however, had to put the blank CD in when the burning stage is ready to commence and the program prompts me for a blank CD. If I put it in before it's ready to burn, it just sits there wurrin' around getting all upset.

If this doesn't help then is sounds a little like the burner may not be all that well. Put a normal data CD in and see if you can read anything off it...

Good Luck

Need help recording acostic guitar

Hi,

I want to use my PC to record some songs I've written on my electroacoustic guitar. I have a Soundblaster AWE64 sound card and loads of RAM and HDD space.

1) Which is the best software for recording?
2) Which is the best drum sequencer (I need one which sounds as much like a real kit as possible)?
3) Which is the best multitracker software? I used to run n-Track years ago so something like this would be nice.

Cheers

James

Re: Need help recording acostic guitar

: 1) Which is the best software for recording?
my favorite is Cool Edit Pro. However, both

Cubase and Pro Tools have wonderful free versions of their software.

: 2) Which is the best drum sequencer (I need one which sounds as much like a real kit as possible)?

probably the best way to do this is to use real drum samples and sequence them. you can either record them yourself, or buy a sample CD. any midi sequencer (Cubase, ProTools) in conjuction with soundfonts that you've made (with vienna Soundfont Studio (free)) will work. or a wav file sequencer like Making Waves.

: 3) Which is the best multitracker software? I used to run n-Track years ago so something like this would be nice.

i've never used n-track, but once again, Cool Edit, Cubase, and ProTools are all excellent multi-track programs.

good luck,
craig

Re: Need help recording acostic guitar

: Hi,

: 2) Which is the best drum sequencer (I need one which sounds as much like a real kit as possible)?

use a real drumkit. sequencers are for Tekno-freaks. (sorry my bad english...:)

: 3) Which is the best multitracker software? I used to run n-Track years ago so something like this would be nice.

I think new n-Track or Samplitude.

Wav to Mid conversion

Is there any GOOD software out there to convert any wav file to midi file. If so... could someone please tell me what it is?

Gigasampler

Midi Controlled sampler with rendering functions. Best ever because I haven't used Halion yet and Gigasampler works without a VST environment.
