Better forum...

Does anybody know of a better forum where people don't ask the same old thing, ie. questions like when they ask "where can I find software" and it's featured on this very site? Or about conversion... Don't mean to be knocking anybody, but if you got as far as the forum, check out the damn software first! Anyway, I need a forum which discusses different techniques for music creation singularily (or something similar). Thanks ahellovabunch.

Re:

If you don't post a particular question, how will you ever know this isn't your forum?
By the way, I'm suggesting people who ask known issues to simply scroll down the discussion page, do it too.
If you think you can help some, do it, there is always time to regret it later...

Forum sigh...

Sorry, put the link in the title box... Doh!

Forum sigh...

Sinephase,

This is a good forum for some people although it seems to attract people that would rather ask first and think later.

We both know that people that think along those lines will never actually work anything out for themselves and therefore I can personally tolerate them for longish periods of time in the comforting knowledge that they are never going to achieve much at all until they can stand on their own two feet. I have given up with some of the questions at the typing is too laborious when I have better things to do myself. There are some legitimate questions here though so do what I do and focus on the really needy.

I doubt this site will object to a recommendation to another forum as the 'other' forum is in affect offering a different service. There are some very good people there and they also have their fair share of twats. Check it out, it might be more your thing.

fruity loops midi sync - PC to PC...

We are tryng to sync two pc's running fruity loops (in order to perform live) using MidiViaNet software. Has anyone done this before, or does anyone know a better way to sync up? Our main problem is a delay after starting, leaving the slave computer a quarter second late. If you can advise, please help.

Shielding for monitor noise interference

I have a pretty old monitor and I've discovered that when it is on, it puts a buzz/hum on my whole studio setup. I assume this is because of some kind of electrical interference so I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help eliminate it. Maybe some kind of shielding or a specific placement so that it reduces the interference.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Maybe...

it has something to do with the lead itself. They are supposed to be sheilded and the length of monitor leads makes the odds. It maybe worth checking the lead and replacing it with a short decent one.

Other than that, I suspect you have a monitor that is developing problems and maybe was never intended for use in an audio environment...

The Future

Is there anyway that anyone knows of to download my mind to a harddrive? If so how big of a hardrive would I need and what kind of other hardware would I need? 24 bit or 32 bit? Any software on this site to support this application? Also would I be copywrited? ha ha

Re:

If you read Arthur Clark's 3001 The final odyssey,
there is an estimation about this. Something about 1 terabytes would be needed to store every detail of your life both conscious & subconscius (the device that utilises the info is also described)...

mind

yes but stored data is not consciousness. your memories are fixed data fine but what is their use on a HD when your consciousness is not there? i'm sure some peoples brains could be stored on a floppy.

i have a few old 33 and 45 rpm that i would like to put on CD

Re: Vinal to CD

Bruno & Paula, I have created cd's from vinyl many times. There is no great secret. you need to link your record deck into the 'line in' socket of your sound card. You need recording software (like musicmatch available from www.musicmatch.com) and before recording select source to 'line in' instead of the usual default setting of 'CD'. record the vinyl onto your HD in either .wav or .mp3 format.
let me know if I have been of any help.
cheers!

Re: Vinal to CD

Have a read through the article at C:\HTML\Montego II Quadzilla Recording LP phonograph records to _WAV files for CD burning.htm. If there's anything you don't understand, let me know.

Installing/running LAP 4.7+ under Win XP/2K

Hi,

does anyone know how to get Logic Audio Platinum 4.7+ installed and running under Windows XP or 2000? I'm inquiring because I use XP now for almost EVERYTHING but logic and it would really help not having to reboot the machine every time I get a spurt of creativity. I know Emagic is working hard on 5.0 and that we will most likely see XP/2000 support then but is there anyone where who's actually got it running? I've tried to run it in XP under w98 compatability, but that didn't work. Maybe one of the plug-ins is responsible, I'm not sure.

Thanks for any help!

Yours,
Tom

cubase - unable to write to disk?

Installed cubase now everytime I run it. I get the
message "unable to write to disk". Please someone help.
The computer does not respond and when I restart it can't read a hard drive until I shut it off and restart it again and scandisk must run thorough scandisk.

Two things...

First off, I use a MacG4 and Logic Audio but I think I have some things you can try anyway.

It sounds like the disk that Cubase is trying to write to is locked. This means that it's either write protected or it's a CD. The probable reason for this is the 'scratch disk' that cubase is using is either non existent or you have it selected on the CD rom, etc....

I don't know where this selection is in cubase but it should be around the Audio hardware menu, look around for anything that suggests it lets you select what disk Cubase will use. If you were to install a massive and fast AV drive and didn't want to use the disk that cubase selects by default, then you would have to change the disk it uses. This is more than likely although not definately your problem

Advice

Hi my name is Saikai i own a little home studio so far i own a 24 track board, i make beats on the pc using reason 1.0 and i do hard disk recording by using acid pro 3.0 to record my tracks and i mix it in sound forge 5.0 but the mix down does not sound too good is there any program that can do a really good job at mastering???

Re:

If you can afford it, visit www.digidesign.com , and check out Pro Tools...

Re: Advice

Cubase 5 can record at 24 and 32 bit and comes with the "industry standard" Apogee UV-22 algorithm. Recording at 16-bits only really gives you 14-bits of resolution, so record at 24 (with an effective resolution of 20-22bits) and then use the Apogee Mastering algorith to dither to 16-bits.

Hard drive recording

I'm looking for reasonably sophisticated software that will allow me to import ready mixed midi files (as analogue mixes from another computer)then to add a few tracks vox as necessary. Then mix down etc using available effects if poss. There is so much reading to do here forgive my repeating of a probably old question.

Test, then buy.

Pro Tools Free at www.digidesign.com is FREE
8 tracks audio plus 48 trakcs mIDI

Then buy Cubase 5 from steinberg
I swear by Cubase.

Dubbing Cassette Tapes

Hello,

I am looking for information regarding professional dubbing of cassette tapes. Can you give me some information on whom to contact to provide this service?
All the tapes are voice only, mostly lectures and public talks, no music.
I have around fifty of them, approximately half of them are 60 minute tapes and the other half 90 minutes tapes with one full side recorded and half the other.
I am looking to make one copy of each.
Thank you in advance for your kind reply
and advice regarding this matter.
Sincerely
Ms. Thal
