Re: Computer locks up when I try to format a CD-RW

maybe your sys is now overlaoding? Defrag yer HD, close everything by using Ctrl>Alt>Delete except 'Explorer' before opening CDR burner so that your sys is not under strain from other programs. U could also turn off power saving + screen saver (right click on desktop)

Hedpe Help!!!!

I'm still trying to save my .ram file to my drive. I know you said to scroll down but I must be stupid 'cause I can't find the post.

Can you help me out PLEASE!!!! I'll never ask you to repeat yourself again, I promise.

Thx.

Re: Hedpe Help!!!!

Download the RAM file (save it to disc) and then open it with a text editor. There you should see the URL of the file that you want. All RAM does is point to the RA file and enable it to be streamed instead of downloaded in whole before you can listen to it.

problem using reason as a rewire slave

Got a problem with using Reason together with Cubase 5:
every time the cursor comes back to the beginning (= loop
play mode), reason stops playing. I've that REWIRE is active
and everythin', I've even installed the "rewire fix" file
and checked all settings, it still fucks up !
Anyone knows about this...please help me then because it
might do my head in...
appreciate
JM

Re: problem using reason as a rewire slave

hello! I don't want to offend anyone, but... dunno where to find Reason full without pay 400$ for it ? Sure I would pleased to give the money to Proppellerhead people for their great job, but it's not yet possible !

Re: problem using reason as a rewire slave

not come across this - steinberg now say R5 + above is neccessary for bug free Rewire compatability

how do you automate ORANGE VOCODER on logic?

I need to know how to change the chords on the synth in the orange vocoder (a VST pulgin) during a track.... I read somewhere that it is possible to "automate" this with Logic Audio, but I don't know how...
I just want the vocoder synth to be able to play several differents chords in a row.
Thanks for any information.

XV-88 Version

Does anyone know how I can display what version of software is on my Roland XV-88?

Re: XV-88 Version

To check the XV-88 version number, press the
'SYSTEM' button. Next, press the 'INFO' button.
Left of the installed EXT boards listing, you
will find your version number directly under
'INFO' in the display.
At least this is the case with update 1.08 for the XV-88. ;)

mp3 downloads

Yes. Try to download more than one. Your system should allow you to do so without any hassles.

recording

please tell me how to record vocals on fruity loops 3

Re: recording

: please tell me how to record vocals on fruity loops 3

I'm not a fruity loops user but I don't think it has the facilty to record audio straight into it.
What you need to do is record the vocal into a different program like and audio editor (cool edit pro or cubase or something like that).
Once you've saved the recorded audio from there as a .wav file, you can then import that wav into you fruity loops arrangement.
(To record the vocal into the audio editor use the windows volume control to make sure that the line in to your soundcard is selected as the recorded input)

Driver problem with Sonar xl multitrack

Hi,

When I try to record an electrice guitar into an audio track in Sonar, I get an error message that says Crystal WDM audio does not support current audio format or that it's in use by another device. It won't allow me to record. I have both input and output enabled but I don't get a signal on the VU Meters, I'm connected to the mic or line in and when I record in the windows recorder it's fine. Any suggestions??

Many thanks,

Steven

Re: Driver problem with Sonar xl multitrack

probably you are having problems with the driver of your sound card. try update the driver!!!!
do you have any serial of sonar?????
can you help me too?

Steve...R

I believe it was you who told me that you can remove vocals digitally. And I remember you saying that it would cost alot of money. Is this true....can vocals be removed digitally? Dom

Re: Steve...R

I don't mean to speak for the man, but I believe Steve...R has frequently said that you cannot efficiently remove one instrument (vocals) from a mix.
There are technologies that attempt this, but the frequencies that lie within a vocal track become intermingled with frequencies in instrument tracks upon mixdown. To remove it all would leave you with a pile of crap.

Re: Steve...R

I dunno about Steve, but you can certainly remove vocals. Try this link

Need "Muzical Wizard" Software BAD PLEASE

I purchased a legitimate copy of "Muzical Wizard" software about 2 years ago. It came on a floppy disk with manuals. I've recently purchased a new computer and found out my floppy is no longer readable. Does anyone have a copy I could get from them? I'd be happy to pay for it. I do own this copy legally and have the receipt to prove it. Thanks for your help.

Re: Need "Muzical Wizard" Software BAD PLEASE

John, have you thought about contacting the developer of the software to explain your situation? They will most likely be able to help you out.

need help choosing software

We need to buy some software and I need some recommendations as to which packages will meet our needs.
(Keep in mind that i have been playing the saxophone since high school and that that i work as a college teacher, teaching people to use computers, but i have NO experience with music notation software)
Our church has a choir with instruments. We have a great guy who can lay down up to 16 tracks on a KORG by ear. It spits out a midi file on diskette.
Can we find a software program to:
?take the midi file and produce a score?
?take the midi file and produce a single part (one track) for an instrument in a certain key?
?take the midi file and produce a lead sheet with the melody line(s) and chords for the vocals and the guitar?
?edit the midi file with dragging and dropping of notes to make changes in the original score?

Re: need help choosing software

Sounds like a job for Sibelius or Finale. Just download them and check them out. Only way to tell, really.

Re: need help choosing software

I would suggest Melody Assistant or Harmony Assistant for a beginner. These cost only a fraction of Sibelius and Finale and still do the same job as the more expensive programs.

Marty

Recording MIDI onto Audio in Cubasis VST ?

I have the version of Cubasis VST that you get with SB LIve 5.1 card, and am having trouble creating a mixdown file that includes both audio and midi. The manual tells me that I need to record the midi onto the audio to be able to create an audio file that contains both, but it doesnt mention how to do it ! Anybody know ??

Re: Recording MIDI onto Audio in Cubasis VST ?

ok, creating an audio mixdown is easy. the manual is right, you have to convert the midi to audio to be able to create the mixdown.

1. open up the arrangemnt as normal and select the midi parts you want (hold shift to select multiple parts at once)
2. in one of the top menus (file i think but i always forget) go to the option 'Export audio'(depending on how your inputs are set up you may have to select the 'in' button in the track mixer on the track you wish to put the midi onto once it is converted)
3. select the location that you want the mixdown to be saved to and click ok.
4. the program will automatically convert the midi to audio and along with the existing audio will create a 100% audio file
5. going into wavelab open up the file. the waveform will be displayed as usual. set the normalise to 0bd and correct any DC offset (yet again these are in the main menus but i forget exactly where)
6. save the file under a different name so as to retain the origianl cubase version if you mess up. the new file will be a .wav mixdown ready for burning to CD.

Re: Recording MIDI onto Audio in Cubasis VST ?

Gary

Whan you say midi parts, I assume these midi parts are playing software instruments or the soundcard synth as opposed to external hardware.
To record the sounds your SB libe are producing you need to use the windows volume control pannel to route the sounds. Just double click the speaker icon in the systray or go- Start>>programms>accessories>>multimedia>>volume control.
Go to option and select the recording inputs. Here you see things like line in, mic input, cd audio etc. Now, I can't quite remember and you'll have to use a bit of trial and error b ut I think its the 'Aux' you need to be recording. Mute all the audio tracks in VST and set up a new audio track to record you midi parts then its just a case of hitting record and as it plays the sounds from your soundcard should be recorded on the new audio track, providin the right inputs are set in the volume control pannel.
Like I say it might take a bit of trial and error but thats how I did it. You may run into some trouble with a feedback loop though as what you are recording will also play out of the soundcard you might need to mute the 'Wave' output on the volume control.
Also, since there is a slight processing delay, the recorded audio probably wont be in time with the rest of your arrangement but its just a case of dragging it back till its in time.
Like I say, there may be another way of doing it but thats how I did it!
Good luck!

How to compress and backup my music on cd's (hard drive bad)

I need to know how I can either incode or compress my
music for backup on cd's as my hard drive has to be replaced.

....

You say "your music", how do you mean. Are they files on the computers HD, in what format?

If they are uncompressed files then just record them to CD as audio CD's. If you are stuffed for space and don't care too much about audio quality, then compress them to roughly a tenth their size with an Mp3 encoder (available for download from this site) and then back them up on to CD's as data.

How to Adjust the speed of a recording on CDs?

Hi !!

So sorry if this is annoying but since I know there are great sounding engineers out there, I have a question for you and hope you can help me with it...

I have a CD which presents the following:

The whole CD is playing a bit slow....I compared the pitch of the songs to several other songs from the same Artist and its obvious that the CD need to be adjusted to play at the right speed...

So, ¿Is there any possibility someone can help me with that? I mean, some instructions, or any freeware program I can use to adjust the speed of this CD..

PLEASE, HELP ME!! WRITE ME TO: sortu@cantv.net

Cheers from Venezuela!
Igor

Come back for the reply....

Most people don't forward their replies. They have taken the time to come here and answer questions. It's generally expected that people will come back to look for the answers.

What you are looking for is a time stretching facility that is relatively new in the software audio world (relatively speaking of course... ;0) I can't recommend you a specific program as all the ones I know are mac based and you didn't spec your computer. Time stretching is simple to use and very effective if you don't adjust the time too much.

A program called Melodyne is coming out soon for the mac and then windows next year. It's AmAzIng at this sort of thing as well as formant processing but, that's another story

Re: logic audio pc

You won't find it in its entirety in a downloadable

cost, so they're almost free =o) and you'll have
the whole system.

Demo..

I heard an audio demo from it on their site I believe. I don't think there is a demo though so you will have to go to a shop and have a listen there. Sounds pretty funky though if you are into those mellatron type of sounds.

Difference between 44.1Khz and 96Khz

I'm planning on purchasing a USB audio interface and I'm wondering if there is much of an audible difference between a recording at 44.1Khz and a recording at 96Khz. Is there?

Also...

The amount of information that requires processing at 24/96 far exceeds 16bit at 44.1 so expect the extra quality to take a toll on the computers abilities. You can record in a lesser quality mode but it's nice to use those higher rates.

Re: Difference between 44.1Khz and 96Khz

yes definately. if your card + drivers support this recording/playback rate then go for it. when u mix to cd everything will be returned to 16bit 44.1 but the extra 'depth' of recording at the outset will be realised in superior quality final product. however i think 24 bit recording vrs 16bit is far more of a quality leap than 44-96KHz. u will find lots of info if u do a search on this subject i'd think.
