Tape to CD - Pitch Control needed

I would like to transfer some old homemade tapes to CD.
I need a WAV file editor with pitch control.
A number of editors will let you change playback speed
without changing pitch. I need to change pitch by
changing speed.
I need a software equivalent to the knob that lets you
vary the tape speed while playing on some tape
players/recorders.

Editing MIDI files

I'm looking for a very simple MIDI file editor. All I need to be able to do is to be able to remove the vocal/lead track; chage key and tempo if necessary and then re-save the changed file. I've tried Cubase and similar and find them albeit very sophisticated, somewhat rather complicated for what I want to do. Please can you help? Stuart

Recording from vinyl records to CD

Can any body recommend any software for recording music onto the computer from vinyl records....that is, software that converts vinyl records into digital sound format?

I want to save my old vinyl records and listen to them in the car.

Any thoughts anyone?

Regards
Ross

Re: Recording from vinyl records to CD

This has been covered numerous times before.

There is no special software for recording vinyl. Any good audio recorder will do the job (Cool Edit, for example). There are several programs that alegedly remove clicks and pops from the recorded track. Then, you'll need something to record the track onto CD (Easy CD Creator, Nero or similar).

If you look through the software section, you'll find everything you need.

Buying a Keyboard!

After having played around with software like eJay and Cakewalk, I want to take my music to the next level. I am looking to buy a keyboard and would like some advice on what musical keyboard is best to start with so I can record my own music utilising my PC and software I plan to buy?

Re: Buying a Keyboard!

Depends on your budget. If you only want a slave keboard (i.e. without any sound geneating circuits), then there are several available on the market for less than £100 from the likes of Evolution. If you've more to spend, then I'm afraid it's difficult to make a recommendation without an element of bias creeping in (I'm very partial to the Prophet VS, DX-5 and Korg M1). At this level, your best bet is to visit a keyboard shop and try them yourself.

Need advice on sound card/tone generators

I have Finale 2000, Vision DSP 4.5.1, running on a PowerMac G3 OS 9.1. I would like to publish and record my own compositions, but I don't understand what type of sound generation device to use. My Kurzweil K200R (which I never used) has gone belly up which is OK since I could never understand how to use it. I compose Classical music for piano and orchestra. I don't want endless drum and special effects sounds, just acoustic instruments. What device or approach should I use?

Forgot to include that I also have a Que Fire CD burner, monitor speakers, amp, cassette deck, 2 computer monitors and a VCR (for viewing videos to produce documentary scores). Oh, and a Fostex cassette recorder-mixer.

Re: Need advice on sound card/tone generators

Best thing would be a rack-mounted synth. Any decent keyboard
shop should be able to advise you on which produces the kind of
sounds your after. If you want the sounds to be exact, then a
rack-mounted sampler would be better. And a MIDI interface.

DRUMMER WANTED-THRASH METAL BAND CRIMSON MASSACRE HURRY! HURRY!

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

I'm in the Houston thrash metal band Crimson Massacre and I was wondering if anyone out there happened to be a thrash drummer in Houston who is need of a band. Our current drummer is basically never available so we need a good replacement. If you're wondering how old we are, we're all 16 except for our singer/bassist. If you'd like, go to our band website. Link is at the bottom.

Re: DRUMMER WANTED-THRASH METAL BAND CRIMSON MASSACRE HURRY! HUR

I'm too old and too far away but I'd like to see your site anyway. But there's no link!

Composing software

I am planning to purchase a computer -- probably an iMac 600 with 256ram. Are you aware of any new software for composing and notating music? I would love to find a program that allows "writing" on a staff on the screen, but I want something that can produce the music too (or is at least compatible with some sort of MIDI). Basically, I want my own little, virtual ensemble. Any ideas? What kinds of accessories might I need if any?

LPs to CD conversion

I would like to convert a bunch of LPs and cassettes to CDs. What software can I use.
Thanks.

Re: LPs to CD conversion

There's no software specifically designed to convert LP/tape to CD. Any of the audio recorder programs (Cool Edit etc) will take anything fed in through the LINE IN and save it as a WAV file. Then it's just a matter of copying the WAV file to a CD (using something like Easy CD Creator or Nero).

Any tool available, music savvys give me a shout back.

Re: How to convert .ram, rm files to .mp3

how do i convert .ram music files to .mp3 files so i can burn them on a cd-r?
thank you

Re: How to convert .ram, rm files to .mp3

Assuming your on Windows:

Realaudio-to-Wav Recorder for Windows 98/NT4 - Freeware

or

Wisecroft Ripper for Windows 95/98 - Shareware

: Any tool available, music savvys give me a shout back.

Re: How to convert .ram, rm files to .mp3

I think that Streamboat Ripper can handle real audio files. Otherwise, have a look in the software section or search the net for "converting rma to wav". That should bring up some hits. Converting WAV to MP3 is a piece of cake.
