1. Try GuitarSite
2. This site has a great Guitar Section

LINKS

You need to check your Links there's a hell of a lotta dead ones.

Re: LINKS

Hi there

There are thousands of internal and external links on this site. We try to keep on top of them but from time to time, links do go down without our knowledge. You can send me an email and I'll not only get the link fixed but send you an email with the details you need.

Warm regards
Geoff Nicholson

Resources for Internet broadcasting?

I'd like to start doing some Internet broadcasting, but know little about it. Can someone point me to some online resources for general (and specific) info regarding production software, streaming, etc.? Thanks!

Subband...

There are quite a few programs out there for this sort of thing. I have used MapAmp by Subband that has a very easy broadcasting facility. It was for Mac but there is a Windows version around. I think it's $15 for the shareware licence. Well worth the money in my book

Shoutcast etc

Firstly, there are a couple of sections on this site you should check out - Streaming Audio and Radio Production.

I recommend you also check out Shoutcast and Live365 as these two services are quite popular and not that difficult to set up.

convert vcd to aiff

Hi there. Could you please tell me if it is possible to convert with a Mac just the audio tracks from a music video VCD and transfer them as AIFF files to an ordinary audio CD. Many thanks, Juergen.

Quicktime pro...

If you can load the VCD to be played with Quicktime, then you could save the audio file from there although Quicktime Pro is required for this...

To convert wav files to text files

HOW TO CONVERT WAV FILES TO TEXT FILES
BY REDUCING THE SPACE, PLEASE HELP ME.

Re: To convert wav files to text files

I don't think that's going to reduce space. All a WAV file contains is numbers - millions of them - which describe the amplitude of the waveform. Extract those numbers into a text file and it's likely to take up just as much space, if not more.

If you want to compress WAV files, convert them to MP3

remove hiss noise on mp3's

anybody know of a mac program or way to remove annoying hiss sound from cymbals on mp3's?

Cymbals...

There is a couple of hiss removing programs for the mac.. I think I downloaded a couple of them from this site under 'Restoration'.

I doubt though that the hiss is 'just' associated with the Cymbals. It will be something that is resident on the whole track...

OMS version 2.0

Does anyone know how or where I could get OMS so i can use Pro Tools free because it took me a long long time to download and would quite likw to know how to use it.

Re: OMS version 2.0

OMS 2.3.8 is the final version I think. You can download it from a couple of places, it's not hard to find.

OMS is generally for managing Midi on the Mac platform and is needed for most USB Midi Interfaces. (Serial midi interfaces generally just work...)... Do you have a midi interface??

The only programme I know is Easy cd creator Platinum 5. but after you load it onto your pc .You will have to go to their web site to download an upgrade. You simply plug in yout hi fi to the line in on the pc .Maybe having to use an adaptor and use the feature Spin doctor on the programme

MIDI setup on i-Mac

I have an Apple i-Mac. Using a USB Midisport 2 x 2 MIDI interface I am linking a Casio CTK-631 & an Alesis SR-16 to my i-Mac.

The Casio is the sound generator. I've tried to use Quicktime's sounds, but it does not appear to be usable. During the OMS setup on Pro-Tools, the Midisport comes up but the Quicktime option is not available.

The midi setup appears to be correct as the individual midi channel has displayed the correct green signal to indicate this. However, I cannot hear anything.

Someone help. MIDI does my head in.

What you have...

.... will sound better than the quicktime synth.. I would investigate getting the audio outputs from the synth and the drum machine into the audio inputs on the iMac (mixer??). This will bring a lot more scope for sound layering and effecting than using the Quicktime's poor musical instruments...

XP and Cubase 5

Has any one been able to get Cubase 5 running on XP?

If so could you plase let us know how before I purchase it.

What's going on ? I have been inquiring on the same issue, and according to Steinberg, they have not yet given any go ahead signals in regards to the XP and Cubase VST combo. They said that maybe in two weeks that they might have the answer and that to check their site out for the feedback... In case y'all hear other wise don't forget to let me know.. Aight ??

DSS to Voice Recognition to Document

I'm looking for a way to take a DSS file, put it through voice recognition and turn it into a document, preferably Word Perfect or Microsoft Word.

Do you know of any software/technology that either gets me there or close to it?

frequency shifter

Hi,

Our new plugin, Hematohm, will be completed this month.
It's a crazy frequency shifter with two skins available.
It will run on MaOS, Windows and BeOS, and support both VST and dX.
Demo versions on our website this month.

looking for people for collaboration/remixes/whatever

hey i'm looking for folks out there interested in making some music. I've been experimenting with computer music/sound for 2 years, using many different programs all the time, some egs reason, acid, buzz, audiomulch, and a whole heap of cheap/free stuff, wide range of influences but heavilly influenced by so called "experimental" stuff...my most recent project has been taking pop mp3's, leaving the first minute intact then, pardon my french, seriously fucking with it (eg inserting blasts of noise, samples from german pornographic movies, etc) then sharing then on winmx etc with names like "britney speares unreleased eminem remix" to ensure that lots of little teeny boppers download them. If you'd be interested in having some fun (i have no desire for aiming at anything commercial) send me an email thevengabus@hotmail.com

... great! the only problem with this thing is
that it's quite illegal. :-) however, I've done
it myself too.

Re: looking for people for collaboration/remixes/whatever

well of course it's illegal, but I don't think anyone will complain, it could be said that i'm discouraging people from downloading copyrighted material... =)

why doesn't Cakewalk return my system resources?

I've noticed that my copy of cakewalk pro audio 9
sometimes doesn't return the system resources back to
my computer when I've closed down the program and I
have to restart the whole thing to use my old shoebox
PC again. the strangest thing is I think it has
something to do with drag'n'drop -operations not freeing
up the RAM for some reason (suggested by the fact that
the disk meter overflows during playback).

it's definitely some sort of system conflict. since
it worked just fine before. something might have also
occurred when I installed the DirectX8.0 uppgrade.
has anyone had the same sort of problems

sound cards

Can anyone recommend a good sound card to start off my home recording studio?
I am just setting up my own PC and want to get a decent sound card but dont want to spend an absolute fortune.
Thanks, Andy

Re: sound cards - right...

I have no clear examples to give you, but you
know: no matter what some hardline pro's and
shop clerks will tell you you can always do with
less. some people even use sounblasters(like I do)
and call me stupid but I can´t hear the difference
between an Aardvark and a mid-range consumer card.
if you´re just starting out, you´ll soon notice that
soundquality is one of the things that you´ll have
to worry the least! There are a million things
you´ll have to learn before you can achieve good
recordings and by that time, when it´s time to
uppgrade to better gear - THEN buy the good stuff
cause you´ll need to uppgrade sooner or later.
my suggestion is that if you´re really just starting
out make your first recordings with the bulk card
that's probably already inserted in your computer
or not, usually not. well is it? :-)).

but hey, I mean investing in good gear always pays
off in the end. just remember there are a LOT of
people who'll rave about this and that high-end
product and well... it´s your call in the end.

but anyway, welcome to hell. :-)
