Re: Need help on compiling a CD (nero)

You must be more clear in words, and write down the error messages in screen to help you better and also please check that you copied the files onto HDD first except in case you have'nt got a cd-changer system at the moment or multiple cd-roms in the system.

midi keyboard -> sound card -> speakers

I'm new to midi. I bought an Evolution MK-149 keyboard
(kb) which attaches to a sound card (sc) game/midi port.
It works ok (most of the time) with the massive
programs provided for teaching and editing.

Is there a way to send kb midi messages to the sc's
wavesynth so that the kb can be used like a piano? I'm
looking for a small simple program which can run
minimized or in background all the time. The BIG
programs which came with the kb are unstable and
sometimes crash, so I would prefer not to have to have
them running all the time.

Thanks.

Re: midi keyboard -> sound card -> speakers

You have to read articles about sound fonts, sound font management etc, after that you can use your midi compatible keyboard as a piano and it plays your samples (soundfonts in fact)

No sound - mmsystem002 error

When I try and play Winamp I get an error saying "mmsystem002 a device has been used that is out of range on this system." I don't have any sound at all. Winamp, RealPlayer, Quicktime, Media Player, WAVs, etc all do not work. I just installed Win XP yesterday and even reformatted and it still doesn't work. When I tried changing Winamp's output to DirectSound it said "Cannot create a direct sound object." Any ideas? Thanks

OK...REAL SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR MY FAT ASS. I I just had this problem, all the same problems. a very simple solution is to download the current Direct X file. I downloaded 8.1 from www.microsoft.com. I attached a link so you can go there. Download it the file name is DX81eng.exe. click on it, it will prompt you to restart your computer and your worries are over. Now I am enjoying my newly purchased Speakers and my shit is rocking !!!

Re: No sound - mmsystem002 error

I ran cleansweep to get rid of some extra registry lines in 98se. Lots of them were realaudio references. After rebooting I got the same "mmsystem002 a device has been used that is out of range on this system." as you did. Of course I loaded the backup and returned by registry to its original config and the prob disappeared.

Here are some solutions if you don't have that option.

Check out the geocities site to restore your audio. Luckily for me I saved my registry with cleansweep.

Refer to the URLs below

http://www.google.com/search?q=mmsystem002

"MMSYSTEM002 i don't know who created this but THANK GOD!

http://www.geocities.com/mmsystem002/index.html

There is a "quick and dirty" way to resolve this issue which involves
uninstalling the entire Multimedia component of Windows 98, but this
is not recommended and still may not solve the problem. The following is
a procedure to deal with this specific issue.

Click on Start and choose Run.
Type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and click OK.
Click on the System.ini tab.
Double-click on the MCI folder.
Remove the check from the line that says "waveaudio=mciwave.drv".
Click on the Win.ini tab.
Double-click the MCI Extensions folder.
Remove the check from the line that says "wav=waveaudio".
Click on the Startup tab.
Find the lines which refer to CBWHost and CBWAttn and remove the checks from those lines.
Click Apply, OK, then reboot the system.

This won't fix your overall problem but it can get Winamp going.

1)open menu
2)select "options"
3)select "preferences"
4)select "output"
5)select "Nullsoft DirectSound plug-in [OUT_DS.DLL]"

This allows Winamp to use DirectSound instead of wav.

Realaudio and other programs still won't work.

1) Click on Start, then Settings, and click on the
Control Panel.
2) Double click on the Multimedia icon.
3) Click on the Devices tab.
4) Click the "+" next to Media Control Devices.
5) If Wave Audio Device is there, double-click on it,
and then click on the Remove button, and click OK (2X);
now close the Multimedia box. If it is not there, then
close Multimedia.
6) Double click on the Add New Hardware icon. Click on
Next, and when asked either "Yes" or "No" click on "No"
and then click on Next.
7) This will bring up a list of hardware devices. Click
on "Sound, video, and game controllers" and click on
Next.
8) Windows will build a driver information database. 9)
Next you will see two lists, Manufacturers and Models.
9) Under Manufacturers, select "Microsoft MCI" and under
Models select "Wave audio device".
10) Click Next. Click Next again, and when given the
chance, click Finish.
11) Close out of the control panel and restart the
computer.
12) Upon re-entrance to the desktop, you should have
your default Windows sounds again.

Its probably not the solution your looking for, but
has a 99% chance of working. My Compaq computer like many
others have third party configurations. These guys are
assholes and tend to screw around with the settings.

If you're fed up with the bullshit you may want to reformat
your hard drive and reinstall Windows. You lose things
like Word Perfect and any other extra programs included with
your computer, but in my opinion you should go for it.

Just reinstalling Windows without reformatting doesn't
work because the old registry is still there and it doesn't
force the system to relook for all the plug and play devices.

I fixed my mmsystem002 problem six months ago and was
recently forced to reformat my hard drive due to a corrupt
kernel :P. My system runs five times faster, DVD runs without
any slow downs, no mmsystem002 problems, etc. My point is if
you keep things native its guaranteed to work.

This is what I did:

1)Installed MSDOS 6.2, once you do this there is no turning
back because it formats a FAT16 partition to boot from.

2)Installed drivers for my CD-ROM. Get this from the
manufacturer's website. If you bought a DVD they probably
gave it to you on a floppy.

3)Installed Windows 3.1, because I only have an update disk
for Windows 98 SE. To use an update disk you have to launch
it from Win 3.1 or Win 95.

4)Installed Windows 98 SE

5)Used "Drive Converter (FAT32)" included with windows to get
rid of the DOS FAT16 partition, don't worry its just point
and click. This program was automatically loaded into the
start/programs/system folder.

Some extra things but not needed.

5)Got Partition Magic to maximize my disk space and to
merge Compaqs d: partion

6)Downloaded Norton Utilities demo to check for errors and
run Speed Disk (sweeet!!)

Note: You can't use Compaqs software disks again because it
says "Factory System settings not found" personally I think
its a small price to pay for something that works ten times
better than the day you bought it.

There may be other ways of doing this. I'm not an expert but
this is proven to work and very safe if you have all the disks.

Re: No sound - mmsystem002 error

Be sure that your hardware is compatible with Windows XP, if not you have to obtain new drivers for your hardware which is designed for Windows XP Edition. But if your sound card is working normally (mean system sounds is working) you have to check the IRQ,DMA,I/O addresses in the hardware profile, may be need to change sths there. If none of them, just try to reinstall DirectX and in the software choose "Direct Sound Output" as output device and before it check "Use only preferred devices" in the control panel "Multimedia" properties and be sure that you placed correct devices there.

is there any site that is reasonably priced where i can download karaoke songs???? help!!! and fast.

Re: need music

May be you can download best midi files for the songs so you can karaoke with them :) not bad idea.

wav/cda-convertor

I need a cda/wav -convertor...somebody help me!

Re: wav/cda-convertor

WinDac is a free solution but also can try Xing Audio Catalyst, it's super (with normalization option). Do not forget that some old (mean like x12..x16) cd-rom drives is not compatible with high-speed-ripping..mean burst-buffered-copy..so just copies via analog method (1x only), if you have a new cd-rom you can rip in lightning speed like 12x to 20x sometimes with a 40x 50x drive. good luck

? about soundcard for Mac G3, please help...

First off, I am switching from a hardware based system to incorporate the use of software. I currently use Cubase as my sequencer, but want to be able to use Reason too. Is Cubase fairly compatible? Or is there a better program to use with Reason that has good midi implementation?

Second, I've never had a sound card before and would like to know what works well with a Mac G3 (blue/white, 400 mhz) To be used with Cubase/Reason?

Any help would be great, thanks in advance!

Check out...

....M-Audio (link below) as they have some decent cards (interfaces) at decent prices. They are Audio Cards rather than Sound Cards which is just audio in and out rather than incorporating synth sounds too. It's the purest way...

Re: nigel and steve

For the record, I do have friends. Some of them are inflatable, but what the hell? I spend all my time tracking down newbie questions on the net and answering them with sarcasm.

Maybe you should answer more questions yourself. I would but I'm busy re-programming my Aikbo dog to say 'blue screen of death'. All the guys in the science lab will be greatly amused.

sound card emulator

Hello everyone

I would like to use a wave/mp3 mixing software which needs 2 sound cards.
Since I am using a portable I only have one.

Is there any directx plug-in, or software that would emulate a second sound card using the on-board one, and split the sound output into left and right channel enableling me to use a headset on one channel and the main system on the other ?

Thanks in advance
Normand

Re: sound card emulator

Hi there, i guess that you'r using BPM Studio :) or OTSJuke, anyway if you have any free IRQ and resources in hardware you can add another sound card in your system, hmmm Sound Blaster PCI128 is a cheaper and nice card to do that. Another solution is like that, in old days, mean while transferring from amiga 2 pc, there's no solution in Turkey for me in these days, 'cos i'm in Turkey, so downloaded a schematics for a sound card, basic solution was a D/A convertor plugged in my LPT port so i can use it like a sound card :) 10$ cost..old days but.. May be you use that but remember that the sound quality is poor. icq uin#1691211 or e-mail me.

how can you sample off of real jukebox

lets say i downloaded some napster musica nad i now want to sample off of it..i know audigrabber allows you to sample off of cd, but how to sample off a copy of music that one dowload to realjuke box..i guess what software would i need?

I must be mad...

I wonder sometimes why I come here at all when I find around 80% of the answers (some long) I give to the curious don't appear to be read at all by the person that posted the original question...

Whether this has something to do with the fact that people consider the fact that an email address has been left is enough to 'fire and forget'and await some poor bugger to not only type a helpful answer, but to spend additional time copying and pasting email addresses and messages into their email client.. This isn't a 'Free' service, nobody gets paid to come and do this so have some respect.

Post a message and come back for the answer. If your not planning on coming back then don't post at all because I for one have taken to ignoring the email copy and paste scenario. I suggest others do the same...

Re: I must be mad...

If people want me to email them personally with an answer, they're going to wait a very long time. I answer questions here to pass the time. I enjoy the occasional thanks message when people actually get a result from one of my suggestions. People are often lazy and post before they look for an answer. If you don't like the question, move on. Don't let it get to ya!

Re: I must be mad...

Thinkin' same with you, mean aggree, i'm new here but like to help people but as you mentioned they just fire'n'forget the posts here, and never come back, just want to be easy-eater for asnwers by sending them e-mails one by one, if this is a forum so people have to look at here if posted sth here, if not the result is just a trash on discussion-forum, same in audio galaxy forums.

Hope...

...you can stick around then.. It's nice to see new faces here that have brains in their skulls...;0)

I know that posting these messages is kind of redundant as it gets lost down the page in now time at all. It just makes me feel better I suppose..!

I love this guy's music: Renegade musician Jake Fleder

I ran across this site yesterday about renegade musician-composer Jake Fleder.
People that love rock, R & B and jazz will find this music quite intriguing. When Jake's friends heard what he was putting together they asked to be more
involved. Thus, you will hear in the background some stints from Leslie Orlando Smith, Bennie Maupin, James "Kimo" Cornwall, Robert Hurst, Charlie Bisharat, Roame and Land Richards.
