converting batch of SMF1 to SMF0 in Cakewalk 9

Help! Need to convert a bunch of SMF1 files to SMF0 with Cakewalk9. Am presently doing it the extremely painful way - one by one. Is there any way I can convert a batch of them in one go??
Is there any free software available (and where) that will do this if Cakewalk can't?

OMS patch names for JV 2080

Hi,

I am looking for the library (bundle I believe it's called) for a JV 2080 with expansionboards, to install in my OMS. The only thing I have is the factory settings for General Midi. Anybody knows where I can find these? Manually entering everything is going to take me days....

Thanks a million!

Bjorn

No guarantee's but...

...try the below link as it's a great resource for all synths etc.. I have linked to the Roland page but try the main page for your other synths (if any... ;0)

Keyboard notation

Hi!! I´m looking for some software wich let me see where are the chords on a keyboard, as the same way the sonar lets you see the guitar frets to create the chords on the sheet.

Also, if this software has got the two options, the frets, and the keyboard, much better. Thank you.

midi in cubase

I cant get my keyboard to play through cubase, i've installed the midi interface ( midisport2x2 ) but it still comes up that it is not recognised. Yet when in cubase i can still choose it and in my studio setup i have it connected to the keyboard. I've got midi thru switched on and the keyboards fine on its own. Can anyone help?

Re: midi in cubase

When you say, "but it still comes up that it is not recognised" do you mean in Cubase or by the computer itself...? Does the IN light on the Midisport flash when you play a key? How have you connected the midi leads. What computer? etc etc...

Steve...R

Re: midi in cubase

It is not recognised in cubase, yet all the midi cables are connected properly, but the IN light is constantly on, also it is an apple mac G4 computer

audio is tooooooo sharp and cripsy

Hello Everybody!
I am in the process of restoring my tapes to CDs.
I recorded the tape to HDD using Diamond cut 32
I cleaned the wav using de-hiss filtes. And the output was excellent. I connected my computer to sony home theatre system and I played cleaned wav from my computer.

But when I copied the wav file to CD the audio is tooooo crispy and sharp. How to avoid this problem

hmmm..

There should be no change in the audio quality when burning from a wave file to a CD. Try different software AND a different CD brand.. Make sure there are no additional audio processes set up in the CD burning software as well...

Re: hmmm..

Can you suggest any software and CDR??

I use a Mac... You?

Reason not working after rebirth install

My Reason stopped working after I installed Rebirth. Something about rewire2, do I have to reinstall reason all over again, or is there a way I can get reason working again with less trouble?

Thanks

IGNORE THAT LAST ONE...

I meant that reason DIDN'T come with ReWire support when it was first sold... ;0((

Steve...R

Reason..

I can't remember exactly but I think Reason came with ReWire 2 support when it was first sold. I think this was corrected though. I am wondering whether you have the rewire too support for your version of reason.

ReBirth is hardly worth installing if you have Reason two as it's so much more the updated version of ReBirth. Can't you do an uninstall of rebirth?

Steve...R

reinstall reason + hence Rewire

rebirth has overwritten the latest working dlls of rewire as written into Reason so just reinstall reason.

Re: reinstall reason + hence Rewire

Thanks for all the replies. I was hoping to avoid
resinstalling reason, it was quiet a hassle, but
its now working perfectly, after resintallation.

Thanks,
Hish

Software for Composing Music

I have recently been introduced to Ejay music software. I enjoyed using this and, I believe made some good sounds. However Ejay is limited to boom & bang type music. I would like to create something more sophisticated such as classical maybe. What would you suggest. Cakewalk Studio 2002 looks good but would like opinions.

Thanks, Stephen Snow

when the recording program doesn't patch to the sound card input

I've just started using the light version of Cubase VST (cubasis) which came as part of a package with a soundblaster Live! sound card.

Installation went ok but I can't get beyond the point of audio track setup - i.e. its not getting any signal from the card's line in.

Another (non-multitrack) program receives the signal fine however.

Anyone been through this already?

John

Re: when the recording program doesn't patch to the sound card i

I am having the EXACT same problem. Help from anyone with experience on this program would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Might be...

...something to do with the Hardware and Drivers from within Cubasis. You should check through the preferences to see Cubasis is set up to address the card in question..

How to put a 1/2 hour radio show on a web page?

Yes, I know I'm absolutely new to this world. My question must be silly, but I can't do it. I have a weekly 1/2 hour radio show, want to record it on my computer and put it on my website. What's the best format to do this, and specially, how can I do it?
I want the visitors can stop and play the show when thy want, but not put the file as background sound.
Thanks in advance.

Streaming...

You need to talk to the people that host your website and inquire about Streaming from the site. Lots of sites offer this as a facility but be prepared, it can be expensive I think...

TIP. Don't go with RealPlayer on the strength that many people I know have removed it from their computers as it does try and take it over...

Making MIDI sound REAL

I use some great soundfonts with my Soundblaster card.
I then record then to wave, and then to mp3.
But they just don't quite do the trick. What is needed to make it sound like a CD quality recording?

How do you mean...?

Bit of a non descriptive message. Do you mean they are bad in the sound quality department or the sound of the instruments is poor??? The musicianship??

Steve...R

Re: Making MIDI sound REAL

In what way do they "don't quite do the trick"?

Andy

Re: Making MIDI sound REAL

I should have been more specific. The soundfonts invidually sound like "real instruments". But when played together, you can tell it's computer generated music. I record the MIDI into a wav file, then to an MP3, and it sounds just as good as the MIDI but there is just something missing that separates it from an actual performance, or what you would hear on a record. Is it compression? EQ? Delay? Am I missing something?
Any software around to do that?
Thanks

Sounds like...

...you might be expecting a programmed sequence to have the heart, soui and less than perfect timing of a human being.

The one thing I remember well about 80's music was that it was working through the advent of samplers and growingly more powerful synthesizers. Most of the music that had 'Synth' drums sounded pretty poor mainly due to the fact that everything was in it's perfect place as far as timing is concerned and perhaps more importantly, was all the same volume right the way through as far as drum dynamics were concerned. As a consequence, it couldn't have sounded more like a robot..

If i'm right, I think you may have done the classic note quantise to clean up the timing a bit and flattened the track. If this is the case, I recommend you research using "Groove Quantise" which may bring some life back into the track. There is also a facility offered by some groove quantising software that allows you to 'Analyse' a tracks groove characteristics and then allow you to apply that to your track. What I mean by that is, you could load in a song you like as an Mp3 - Aif - Wav and analyse the groove. You can then freely apply it to a Midi track and it will move the notes slightly to emulate the audio track you nicked the groove from.. I think Cubase can do this... Logic Audio definately can..

Re: Sounds like...

One other thing I noticed early on was that everything was centralised. In the beginning, I hardly ever used panning, so everything appeared to be dead centre. It was only when I started moving instruments off-centre and began panning the instruments during the music that things began to improve. Even so, it's all to easy to end up with music that sounds "sterile".

Andy

Andy...

It was a missed point. I couldn't agree more.

I still mix things very central so have tried recently to use headphones less as the stereo panning is so much more evident. It feels natural to try and get things back in the center.

I find stereo effects very helpful and doubling also. I always try to layer as many versions of the same thing (guitar doubling and slight delay) into the mix, especially if your lucky enough to have just used a few instruments.
