Midi merge & SBlive

Hi All
I'm using Cakewalk9, SBlive1024 with a Yamaha DX7 & KX5(midi k/b,no on-board
sound). I want to be able to play 2 different sounds from the SBlive
Sounfont bank on the keyboards simultaneously, eg Piano on DX7 channel 1,
bass on KX5 channel 2. I've connected them to a midi-merge box, but I can
only play the same SBlive sound on both.
Any ideas anyone?

Mod converting

How do i convert a MOD to a WAV??

Re: Mod converting

: How do i convert a MOD to a WAV??

Without knowing what platform you're using for MOD
work it's a little hard to give a definitive answer - some people still use DOS for making MODs
and <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Fast_Tracker/">Fast Tracker</a> is still a popular download
after all these years.

Anyway, there are basically two ways to do this.

1 - use the export to wav function if your MOD player or editor has one
2 - use <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/TotalRecorder/" target="_top">Total Recorder</a>

Salut, Sandor!

It seems Radium belongs to history now. This site is probably dead, too, but for what it's worth, Sandor, I salute you and the guys and all you achieved with Radium. I'm two years out of college now with my own studio, with legitimate software. Without the experience and training that I got on Radium software I wouldn't have been in this position now.

Perhaps this will reach you - thank you.

Re: Salut, Sandor!

I'm not going to name companies involved but many
many jobs were lost in the software industry thanks
to Radium - a lot of tallented software
programmers lost to the music business.

There are enough free demos around, and stores doing
workshops, and courses available, that you don't
need to steel to learn the craft.

It's like saying "I now have a really successful
investment business now thanks to the bank I stole
$1 Million from!".

Nein!

The flipside to software piracy is that some companies were (and are) affected by the loss of sales. Moreover, it's safe to assume that some software cost a bit more to purchase due to piracy. Thanks, buddy!

I can appreciate your perspective, but it's not a one way street.

Madonna killed Shep Pettibone, and now William Orbit. Prodigy,

rah, rah. whatever. moby shall never die as long
as students are required to read a certain Herman Melville

still, all electronic music has sustained a certain
state of suspended animation ever since Kraftwerk created
"We are the Robots" and the ever so prophetic "Home Computer".

Dance music from the late seventies has never sounded so
modern since then. I'm still wondering how they did
digital sampling before the advent of digital samplers.

I often think about how good some seventies dance
production was compared to today.

Actually digital sample players in the form of percussion
sound modules were available before "samplers"
I imagine because RAM was expensive but placing
8bit/8khz samples on ROM chips was viable.

To this day if I hear clapping on a record it just
doesn't sound right unless it's 4 people clapping
sampled at 8bit/8khz - think "808".

HELP

NEAD TO KNOW WERE TO GET FREE MUSIC ONLINE TO DOWN LOAD OR BURN ON CD BURNER OR SOMEWERE THAT EXPECT A CHECKING ACOUNT DONT HAVE A CREDIT CARD PLEAS HELP ME THANK YOU ANNISHA THOMPSON

try paypal - to send the music site payment

Annisha,

I would check, the download sites but they should be able to accept payment from paypal - this is an alternative to using a credit card to pay on the Internet.

http://www.paypal.com/

However not all shopping sites will accept payment from them, so you need to check?

Free downloads do not cost money, so presume you are trying to purchase music on line.

When making a CD you need to capture the music storing it on your hard drive, before burning/recording a CD. If you have never done this before I suggest you try ripping several selections from your own previously purchased music.

Use a free program CDex - 1.40 a Window program (since you did not indicate if you are using a MAC or Windows Machine) to capture music from your own previously purchased music CDs. Rip the music to your hard drive, and then put it into your CD Recording software and burn/record a CD. Try it in your CD player or neighbors to make certain it will play.

Then do a search for MP3 files on the net; learn to download and how to convert MP3 to wav files to make another CD.
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cdex/

With this experience you will be armed with the knowledge to purchase music, downloaded it, convert it to WAV format and record your own audio CD mixed CDs.

MP3Decode is a stand-alone program that is an excellent windows program - Converts MP3 files to .WAV file format needed to make audio CDs.
http://www.etalonsoft.com/mp3decode.html

This conversion is not necessary if you have a CD player for MP3 files. Last week there was two brands of portable MP3 player in Wal-Mart priced just over $50. Then you can listen to Mp3 music that will allow you to put over 20 audio CDs on one music CD in MP3 format.

You need to know some music sites sell you music that you can not convert to wav format, nor play after making audio CD with them. Also, know it is illegal to download copyright music. You will discover ripping the latest CD is also illegal because they are copy protected.

However with a little practice you will learn that your ripping and recording will be far superior to any pirate music you will find on-line. Many downloads are not the same quality, nor the same volume, yours will not have snap crackle and pops like a lot of the pirate music you will find on-line. I is madding to find many the pirate on-line songs poor recordings, cutup, mislabeled, or incomplete but mostly recorded at different volume after you have paid for the download.

Your rips will be controlled, complete, and consistent, if you take the time to learn how using CDex - 1.40.

Good Luck

JR

director file

Does anyone know how to get music off a director file? I have an enhanced cd that I want to get a loop from, but it seem to be a part of the director file because there's no file for the sound on the disk.

thanks

Re: director file

director projectors are locked and are designed to be so. just record it directly onto md out of your sound card or use the 'what you hear' input on soundblaster (or possibly stereo mix on others) and record into wave editor

splitting long audio tracks

I am burning a couple of audio tracks that are very long in length. Each one taking up the length of the entire cd. I was wondering if there is a cd burning program that will automatically burn different track numbers so I will not have to fast forward through the entire audio track. I tried a lot of different splitting programs but they dont support the file size because they are only trial versions. Is there an easier way around this??

Separating music tracks for recording & playback on CD

Nathan,

If I understand your question: you have a wav file that has numerous songs as one single file.

What you need is an editor to separate them, before recording them onto CD. Nevertheless, for some reasons you have not purchased an editor to separate these different tracks.

You have downloaded, several editors as trial versions, but the common situation of using trial version of sound editors (copy protection) is to limit the length of the files they will edit.

With my understanding, you are trying to find CD Recorder software that will accomplish the same function, of knowing where to separate the single file, into separate tracks.

Nathan, skip a couple of pizzas next month and purchase a working copy of an editor, and then separate your single file into separate tracks then burn a new CD.

Once you get an editor you will never look back... using fade in fade out or overlap between your tracks or changing the play order is worth skipping several pizzas. $15 for an editor

http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Audio_Edit/

Now my question how did you make this long file, consolidating several different songs into one big file?

Re: splitting long audio tracks

There are programs which can split tracks, but most depend on two second silences (WAV Singulator). If you want the track to play continuously, but with index marks, then you'll probably have to split it manually using something like Cool Edit. In any case, you'll have to get a full version of something, as trial versions are just that - trials. They're designed to be restrictive, otherwise what's the point of having a full version?

Re: audio editing software for Windows XP

Dave,

You need more than an audio editor if you are going to move your previously purchased music (Vinyl/LPs) to CD R media.

A brief summary of how:

1. Capture software - You need to get the music from media (LP or Cassette) into your computer - Play one side of the LP or Cassette, capture the entire side as one file? You will find it Almost impossible, or the very least you will discover it quite tedious to try and capture one song at a time.
2. Edit - You will want to separate the different song/music selections on the continuous LP/Cassette capture. Alternatively, also remove the snaps crackles and pops of an old, worn recording. On the other hand, you may need to improve the poorly shielded sound card input, which may have distorted your recording capture.
3. Filtering - Depending on the quality you want to achieve, how are you going to play your captured music?

Joke – Playing music in a convertible at 60 with the top down, using an audio CD portable player, plugged into your cassette deck, with a $15 converter!

Seriously, everyone’s needs are different, and the quality of audio recording is a function of money and time. You need hardware, an amp with RIIA abilities between your turntable and your sound card line in, to level the LP sounds. Short shielded cables, but long enough to remove your turntable, and amp away from your computer, but not to far away to degrade the signal with other electrical interference. See this post:
www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/108975.html

Cassette Player/recorder normally have adequate built-in amps, for line-input to your computer’s sound card, but spend the extra Radio Shack dollar for shielded RCA jacks.

Then you need capturing software, and editing software. It behooves you to have format conversion software, and of course Burning/recording software if you are going to archive your previously purchased software onto CD R media. The built-in recording/burning functions of XP operating system may not be up to the task, look at Nero, or Roxio software offerings.

I suggest you use the 30 trial of the inexpensive capturing and editing software from CFB Software, which is surprisingly good and for XP operating systems. Then improve your connections, one step at a time, yes maybe including your sound card.

Normally with very little time and a lot of Persistence, your audio captured music recordings will surpass the quality, of the junk digital recording on the peer to peer download systems that replaced Napster’s music advertising service.

Re: audio editing software for Windows XP

I don't think it's a case of what works best because best is so subjective. Just look for XP-compatible editors and then try them.
