IMPORTING WAV's INTO LOGIC

Hi there, I see there has already been a thread aboutthis but things are getting desperate!

Im having majour problems importing audio tracks into Logic Audio Platinum. I have tried selecting the "Add Audio > Import Audio File" and i just get a message asking me select an audio channel first even though i have.

And i have also tried importing them through "Audio > Sample Editor" from here i can get the files to the audio channels but then i cant even play them!

Please, for the love of god help me......!

Re: IMPORTING WAV's INTO LOGIC

On the Mac version of Logic, I just drag the audio onto an audio track from the desktop (or anywhere). You can open the 'Audio Window' option and add audio there. You can also drag the audio onto the 'Audio Window',

hi

Hi, can anyone recommend me some decent anologue soft synths for pc (VST,DX only). I want to get a phat, 'acidy' '303' unique sond, something that i can use to edit the preset sounds so i can get my own version off it. I already have PRO 52, MERCURY 1, tau, tau pro and Waldof synth. ??? anyone help me out??? i can go up to about £400.

sync problems

I am trying to sync logic audio to a VS880,
I can get logic to trigger the VS880 with MTC
but while the track time starts when I start logic
I get no sound from outputs or phones socects
does anyone know whats wrong?

Re: sync problems

Have you pressed PLAY on the VS? If you have selected the VS as the MTC SLAVE, then you should be able to press play/record and the light should start flashing. The VS is now waiting for the MTC signal from the Master MTC device (Logic).

Check that Logic is transmitting MTC and at the same FPS (frame rate) as the VS which I think defaults to 30FPS. Logic might ask if you really meant 29.9 FPS. Go with the 30 and then check the VS is sync'ing with 30FPS. They must both be the same..

Good Luck

Re: Logic Audio HELP!!

Are you trying to export AUDIO or MIDI to wav? If you have any MIDI tracks
in your song you must first record the MIDI to wav...

This can be either easy or difficult depending on your soundcard/MIDI
hardware.

If you only have digital audio tracks in your song it is very simple.

Open the Mixer window and find the master volume slider. Beneath it you will
see a button called 'Bnce' which stands for 'Bounce'. When you click on this
button a window will pop up asking you what you want to do. You want to
choose 16 bit, wave, interleaved. Note the start and end position and make
sure they are what you want. After you have checked the settings click
'Bounce', the song will play back in real-time and after it is finished you
will have a wave file of the mix.

Best,
Greg

level optimization

At the moment my (crude) recording/encoding ritual is as follows: With
little exception all of my sounds come out of my emu 6400 sampler into a
mackie board out of the control room outs into my dman 2044 sound card and
finally into soundforge 4.5 where I set the level to about -6db which yields
a pretty strong signal. From here I have alternated between using the
"maximize peak value" algorithm and the "normalize to -6db" setting (with
the "if clipping occurs apply dynamic compression" option selected.). Given
that I don't have any outboard compressor what would you suggest doing to
maximize the volume of my wave files? Short of buying a suite of software is
there a relatively inexpensive way to get decent sound. The tracks will end
up being burned to CD and converted to mp3 using a freeware converter whose
name escapes me at the moment. BTW if it helps the music I am processing is
does not have the most extreme dynamics. We are talking a lot of programmed
drums and pseudo cinematic string/piano lines, etc. I am just curious
about how others process their sounds...I greatly appreciate any help
(advice, links, etc)..that any care to offer.
thanks again.
shawn

....

Why are you setting up Peak Limiter algorithmns in SoundsForge though? You should attempt to neither boost or cut the level of a recording chain at more than one place, if you have to. Limiting a signal is usually for safety rather than to improve a signal. Leave it along generally.

If you think the file is too quiet after it is recorded then there is something wrong with your signal chain. This is sometimes the hardware although usually it should be a straightish linear path.

"Normalise" using SF if you need to.

problems of synchronization ??? please help ???

I have a very strange problem when recording midi. When I use the sequencer
of Reason (and it seems to appear similarly with Cubase) with my yamaha djx
as a midi keyboard, the recording locator (P) starts as soon as I press the
play button and the sounds can be heard but the controllers are all recorded
on the same time position in an incredible superposition. Then, after a few
seconds the other controllers are recorded and synchronized normally but the
(P) locator is still far.
I still have to deal with a hardware latency of 46 ms (my SB-Live Platinum
doesn't have any ASIO driver !!!) so I don't understand this "recording
latency" that doesn't seem to be considered as a common problem in the
user's guide.

If somebody knows this problem and its reason (lol) and even perhaps its
solution, I would be eternally grateful..!!!

rozwel

Re: problems of synchronization ??? please help ???

Just seen your problem in Future Music problem pages today funnily
enough...your problem is your SoundCard & the driver, you really need an
ASIO driver to sort this out, Don't know if the ASIO drivers for the
SoundBlaster Platinum Audigy will work with your card. (I think I have read
somewhere recently that it will but Creative don't tell you that coz they
want you to buy an Audigy) So if you can find the ASIO drivers, give it a
whirl..and a good place to start would be to check out creative's site.

Re: problems of synchronization ??? please help ???

You need to read this:
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Jun03/articles/pcnotes0603.asp

and then download drivers at:
www.asio2ks.de

Tested for your card, it should get the latency down a lot!

ASIO2KS, a generic ASIO driver developed by Tobias Erichsen that runs on Windows 2000 and XP and works as an extra layer above existing WDM drivers for any PCI, on-board or USB audio peripheral.

Good luck!

I've Run out of Ideas

I have spent hours trying to get my midi setup working. It used to be
fine, but since I reformatted my hard drive and reloaded everthing in
I can't get the sequencer to record from my digital piano through my
yamaha box. I have tried all the obvious things; checked the cables,
got new drivers, fiddled with the irqs & dma's, tweaked the cakewalk
settings....but to no avail

Help!!!!

My setup is as follows:

Pentium PC
Win 98
Cakewalk V9
Yamaha MU10 soundgen
Generic soundcard (Avance 220) - associated drivers.
Kawai Did Piano
Midi adaptor (game port)

enquiry

Hi, maybe one if you guys would be so generous as to answer me these
questions:

(1) Is it possible to create an instrument midi patch using WAV samples? If
so, how is it done?
(2) I want to record drum track via midi, but I do not want to play the midi
keyboard for that...I want a midi drum pad. The only option I found so far
is to have the pads (1/4" output) connected to the Roland TMC-6 trigger-midi
converter ...is there any other way to do this cheaper? I don't want the
drum module...just the trigger system....

thanks, Blas

Re: enquiry

Use a synth which allows you to load samples, and whatever sample
editing program works with it to load the audio files. There are a
*lot* of these around -- the SB Live/AWE/Audigy and the Vienna editor
are one popular example.

No way that I can see other than having a MIDI controller with pad
hardware. There are a number of MIDI drum controllers on the market.

The trigger system must have a MIDI controller output after it, so I
can't see any easy way around that. You might check with people who
are doing MIDI drum work, and see what they have found which is cheap
and effective.

Re: enquiry

midi has no sound, just data to trigger a patch, the drum sounds are
generally wav samples already in ROM in the chip on the soundcard or
soundmod.
But try Drag and Drop drummer from Cakewalk, it has audio as well as midi
tracks.
You simply open up the file you want and drag the audio or midi sample from
D&D to your sequencer software.
Programs like GigaSampler let you use your hard drive to store wav samples
of any instrument and control them using midi controls.
GM2 let's you take any track and make it a drum track and you can key edit
the tracks, in effect make each drum sound the way you want it to.
But you need a GM2 mod to do that and you must send sysex on that port to
that mod only.

have you got a USB port,if you have try a USB interface it may well be a
compatability problem with the card. I use a PSR620 and had a similar problem

If you've set up the keyboard to send/receive MIDI properly, I'd bet
on the cable. There are differences in cable quality and design --
proper MIDI cables have electronics in them. The wrong combo of sound
card gameport and keyboard can make cables which aren't quite to
perfect specs not work -- whereas another keyboard or sound card might
work just fine with the less than perfect cable.

Re: Midi + keyboard won't work ??

Bart,
I'm also interested to learn about this!
My understanding is that you have to select the right synthesiser option for
the card - eg mine shows the options FM synth and MPU-401 Have you tired
your various options?
Please tell me (any of you) if I'm on the wrong track and if so, what the
purposes of the various synth options are.

how can I make my Sibelius midi files sound more realistic?

How can I make my Sibelius files, saved as midi, sound more realistic? I have soundblaster live. Thanks for the help......... M

Re: how can I make my Sibelius midi files sound more realistic?

You might try melody assistant for www,myriad-online.com
Make sure you go to the associated user goup site
and load their 760 meg musical instrument sample database (this is
what gives it its realism.) Its not perfect, but its
better than most I've seen.

Re: how can I make my Sibelius midi files sound more realistic?
