I found a cool audio clip, check it out!

I thought you all might wanna take a break from this discussions to take a listen to an audio clip from the CEO of Interscope Records:

http://www.insidesessions.com/CourseData/AssetPool/Resources/includes/av/jimmylovine_96k.asx

What do you think of this? I found this clip off of the program Inside Sessions. Basically, Jimmy and a bunch of peeps from the Industry talk about what it takes to make it in the business, it covers all aspects of the record buisness too? What do ya’ll think?

Separating Vocal

Hi Could some one tell me where I can find a software to actually remove the music of a audio song and just separate the vocal only. Thankx

Re: Separating Vocal

If you want perfect results, then such a program doesn't exist. Those that do work on the assumption that the vocal is a mono signal in the centre of the stereo image. Unfortunately, the results are ususally poor to average. If you search through previous posts, you'll find plenty of info.

Question regarding WMA files

I have CD Creator 4 on my computer. I have recently copied songs from own CDs in order to make a mix CD. However I am unable to save the songs that I have copied from CD as a wave file to create a new CD. It keeps giving me a message "can't do this for WMA files". What am I supposed to do in order to use the songs that I have copied from my CDs to create one complietion CD. Please let me know.
Thank you.

Re: Question regarding WMA files

You basically have to use software that will allow you to extract the files from your cd rom drive without Windows Media. Then the file will be wav files.

Everything you see from Microsoft regarding music from here on out will be the use of wma files. They think it is a superior way of file management and they can control your use of the files.

Re: Question regarding WMA files

You need to save the original files in WAV format, as WMA is specific to computers, and can't be used on standalone CD players. Go to www.cdex.n3.net and get a copy of CDex. This will rip songs from CD and save them in WAV format so you can put together your compilation.

"Real Audio to .AIFF"

Is there a method to convert ".rm" files to ".aiff" files on the Macintosh?

Thanks

Re: "Real Audio to .AIFF"

There is only one way I know and that's the record the output of the Mac. There could be another way but I am not sure.

I think there is a program around that records the output of the Mac as an input. I wouldn't know what it's called, sorry..

It's called "AIFF Writer", and you can get it for free from the Apple Developers site. It reroutes the audio to a disk file rather than the speakers, so you won't hear anything while it's running, but apart from that it works fine. Snapz Pro also has the capability of recording your Mac's sounds as well as its screen activity (so you can convert RealVideo to Quicktime)...

Re: "Real Audio to .AIFF"

Hmmmm... I'll aspire to trying to remember that... ;0)

Steinberg Pro 24

Hi, Does anyone out there still use this? I have loads of .sng files created years ago using this software & I would love to get them converted into midi files. I don't have the manual anymore & can find no support for the product on the web.

Would be very grateful for any help anyone can offer.

Cheers

Martin

Re: Steinberg Pro 24

I use it on an atari 1040st. Newer cubase versions have an "import 24 song" function that will import somehow.

This any help?

Re: Steinberg Pro 24

Thanks Lister, I came across this url last night, unfortunately this relates to a kurzweil proprietary .sng file rather than the steinberg .sng file format. Ironically it is a Kurzweil K2600 that I want to load these files into !

Thanks very much for responding though

Cheers

Re: what do i need!!

What sort of music do you want to make? There are numerous programs that may be os use to you, but without a clearer picture of what you're after, it's difficult to make a recommendation.

Re: what do i need!!

You can't go wrong by downloading Demo's of
REASON and ORION PRO.....

Try them out and see if they are what you are looking for before you buy.

Reason is a nice self contained s/w studio.
Orion is a great VST host and has some nice Synths of it's own.

Likewise there are loads of free and demo VST instruments available on the net

Add tracks to a big AIFF file

I have a big AIFF file of 55 minutes, in fact a cd extracted as a whole file, without tracks.
That's quite annoying.
Do you know how i could add tracks to this big file, to make a more usable cd?

I have a Mac, so if you know some software on Mac it would be better. Otherwise i can use Win 98 on VPC.

Thanks!

SORRY..

..about the reposts but it gives me an INTERNAL SERVER ERROR but appears to post the message anyway..

Re: Add tracks to a big AIFF file

Do you mean adding tracks or adding track markers for the songs?

I honestly don't know if there is software that allows you to do track marking although I would be surprised if Roxio JAM (excellent) doesn't do it. There must be others out there.

One way to do it is with an audio editor. You could load in the whole track (lots of memory I suspect) and then cut and paste the tracks to a new empty window and then save them as the song names. Burn to CD with iTunes or Toast. It's just a matter of selecting the area which represents one song and then copy and pasting it.

Check out the file area here as there is a bunch of shareware editors. If you can get Bias's Peak then that'll do it for you..

Can cubase work through games port

I am having problems using my keyboards and modules with cubase. I am using Midi cables through games port, and only have a basic soundcard pci 128. Only 1 keyboard seems to work then when I add anymore in the chain there is no sound played from my mother keyboard. The same setup works OK with my Apple laptop but not with my PC. Please help.

r u enabling 'midi thru'?

u need to do this with each module in the chain

dan

Midi thru

The keyboards thru should be set ok as the chain worked with atari and applemac setup. I enabled thru in midi setup in cubase programme. Is there anything else I maybe missing?

How do you record quality soundbites from a DVD?!

Hi there.

Can you help?

I am trying to record soundbites from a DVD.

At the moment I am hooking up a twin 3.5mm cable (dont know the exact name of the cable but the jack or plug bit - whatever you want to call it - has 2 headphone/microphone size jacks at both ends of the cable) from the speaker port to the 'line in' port.

Sound records when I play my DVD and hit the record button on my freeware sound recording program.

However the noise is terrible. I have tried reducing the noise using filters, reducing the sound recording gain volumes, you name it and It always comes out extremely 'hissy'.

There must be a way of recording cd quality sound?

If you can record sound from a CD, save it as an MP3 file, and not know the difference in sound quality, there must be a way recording sound from a DVD and not lose quality also.

But how?????!!!!!!!!

Any thoughts on this would be warmly recieved.

Thanks for your time.

Cheers

Ross
